Time between nail appointments

Hi ladies. I like to get dipped nails done every three weeks but I’ve been stretching it out to four to save a bit of money.

Be honest- is this too grown out and unsightly? TIA.

they look like mine atm as I also try and go 4 weeks. I think it looks fine for everyday but would go in earlier if I had an event.

Theringcycle · 22/02/2026 13:18

They look fine but if you are bothered by them you could put a bit of normal glitter polish near the cuticle and spread it gently for an ombré look. I do this sometimes to extend my manicure.

DustyMaiden · 22/02/2026 13:20

Easier if you had a more neutral colour.

NoelEdmondsHairGel · 22/02/2026 13:34

It really doesn’t look good op.

AltitudeCheck · 22/02/2026 13:48

I think the bolder and more eye catching the colour the more perfect your mani needs to look. That colour is so eye catching that you are kind of drawing attention to the fact it's grown out. It would stand out less with a neutral or natural colour.

TheFallenMadonna · 22/02/2026 15:27

Depends how close people are getting. From a distance that would not be obvious.

ifonlyitwasreal · 22/02/2026 15:32

You could just paint your nails at home for nearly free?

What?! First I’ve heard of this. 😂

Seriously though, normal nail polish lasts two days max for me before it’s chipped.

Let's face it - the only person looking at your nails is you. I don't mean that bitchily, just in honesty.

CKN · 22/02/2026 16:38

Ooh it’s outgrown.
Dont think stretching to four weeks is doing you any favours

SliceofTosst · 22/02/2026 16:53

I think they're fine. Remember people will see your hands moving about rather than still and close up.

falalalaa · 22/02/2026 16:57

I let mine grow out to a month. I assume people don’t care about my nails.

MissLaurenUK · 22/02/2026 17:01

I go every three weeks because my nails grow so quickly and feel far too long in that space of time

NailsHairNipsHeels · 22/02/2026 17:03

I only ever have neutral or French on fingers because I refuse to go any more frequently than 4 weekly.
I don’t think your nails look bad at all. You’ll be more likely to notice the growth. Others won’t be studying your nails.

RosesAndHellebores · 22/02/2026 17:04

If money's tight, stop it altogether. Your nails will be healthier and natural nails look better in my opinion.

Not rue. I look at other woman's nails and like seeing a good manicure.

. We don't all have strong nails. My nails are absolutely rubbish and I also do work and sports that break my nails even more. So my 'natural' nails look crap.
BIAB all the way for me every four weeks.

storageconcern · 22/02/2026 17:10

That’s my growth after 2-3 weeks and it is why I have plain biab these days or French. I don’t like the growth when I have a colour on my nails.

They're a lovely length and as per previous poster you could fill them in a bit yourself. I sometimes do that when I have black BIAB and also try for 4 weeks between appointments.

Lndnmummy · 22/02/2026 17:14

I try to go 4 weeks as well. Sometimes I put a gel colour on at home for the last week before an appointment if the regrowth is bothering me. If I have french or nude nails it rarely bothers me though and I comfort myself that it is better for the nails not to go too often.

Mine are dreadful.too. They still look better than irridiscent, growing out false nails.

Short, neat, unpolished. They are thin, break easily and are a bad basic shape. Still better than something that looks artificial - far less noticeable.

stclementine · 22/02/2026 20:00

I also go 4 weeks between manicures and mine are looking like that now, but don’t think it’s too bad to be honest. My main problem is that the bloody things often fall off after a couple of weeks. If I can find the “nail” I stick it back on with nail adhesive, but if not then I either end up paying out for a touch up or (if I’m not going anywhere and it’s not too long til the next appt) I paint the nail with whatever colour I’ve got hanging around. Currently sporting a curious mixture of navy and red 😬

If you're short of money, give them up entirely for a while at least. You might find you prefer it. And you will never have to suffer grown out nails which look pretty rough to me if I am honest.

namethisbird · 22/02/2026 20:36

I didn’t know dipped nailed were something you paid for? Is it even a service salons offer?
Anyway no they don’t look great.
If you want to wear a bold colour on the nails the manicure has to be perfect from the shaping, cuticle and finish. I think you could achieve the same finish at home they don’t look very neat.

But I like my nails being ‘noticeable ‘ 😉
