Help me move away from leggings

Isadora2007 · 20/02/2026 09:22

Yes I still wear leggings. Not sporty cool ones, just leggings. Black. With a long jumper over my bum and brown or black boots depending on the jumper. It’s pretty much all I wear. I have peri meno belly and IBS so bloating is a real issue if I wear jeans or buttoned trousers.
In the summer I like wide leg linen type trousers and a vest top. But I don’t like wide leg jeans and don’t know what might be a colder weather alternative…
I am 5ft 8 and a size 14 ish but big of bosom (34gg)…
Help please?

I know MN hates leggings but I’ve worn these in the past. Nothing wrong with this. Maybe try jeggings.

HawthornFairy · 20/02/2026 09:28

I live in yoga pants, tapered or cuffed at the hem. Incredibly comfortable. BAM has some lovely, soft ones. Also Imbodhi sleeved jumpsuit is amazing for both post-natal and menopause bodies.

AnnaK12 · 20/02/2026 09:30

I’m a similar size and bust to you and I totally get the trying to get away from leggings. I was the same, I treated myself to some key pieces that were comfy but made me feel a bit more put together. I bought 3 x Adanola leggings (I went for a size XL as they are pretty fitted and I get awful bloating. These make me feel like I’m on trend but hold me in comfortably. I wear them with oversized sweatshirts that I got from M and S. I bought some longsleeve bodysuits from Abercrombie (So nice against the skin and great stretch for bigger boobs). I bought 2 x of Levi jeans that I tried on in person, one is a straight leg pair which aren’t a relaxed fit on me, I then bought a skinny jeans pair as I find them more flattering but they are SO comfy. Apparently Abercrombie are nice for jeans too. I would basically get yourself a capsule type waredrobe if you can, Vinted is great too if you need something more affordable. I found I felt much better in myself for dressing up a bit more, when I put leggings on now I don’t feel right but I use to only wear them everyday!

Nopenousername · 20/02/2026 09:31

I wear sports leggings, BAM and sweaty betty and beyond nine trousers for work.

Ok so not the fashion forward choice, but this is one up from tired leggings- I wear these on a home day with the dc to feel sliiiiightly more like I am wearing actual clothes. It's worth throwing these into the mix while you search for other options, I am post c-section with a poochy-shelf situation and while I am deflating from sugery these are my friend. These feel like leggings but psychologically I feel more human in them. For less than a tenner it's worth having a look x

Boot leg jeggings for me - never out of them - denim for every day and darker denim or black for more formal wear. Comfortable - so very comfortable. Why might I want to change this?

BitOutOfPractice · 20/02/2026 09:38

There are so many lovely pull on trousers out there. I have some great cords from next I wear when I’m feeling a bit bloaty. As a PP said, M&S have got a trillion styles. If I were you I’d order a load for pick up in store, try them on there, return the ones that don’t work.

GrillaMilla · 20/02/2026 09:39

I wear jeans and trousers but with elasticated waists.

OhDear111 · 20/02/2026 09:41

Claudia Winkleman loves her leggings. They are coming back but quality matters. Stirrup pants too!

As an alternative, there’s plenty of options. I like chinos for summer and wide leg cotton pull ons. Comfortable and cool. In winter I like wide cords. Pullovers in winder and shirts in summer. Ring the changes! M&S has great jeans. There will be a style that suits you.

ImPamDoove · 20/02/2026 09:43

Flared leggings (bootcut style) are definitely trending at my gym. Could you try those? Very flattering.

Or you could try and style up your leggings to make them look less frumpy. Claudia W still rocks them and manages to make them look really stylish.

It depends on budget but I’d recommend the me and em track pants, they do multiple colour ways and materials, they are slim fitting through the waist and hips and upper thigh then move to a wide leg. If budget is an issue have a look in vinted,

What about these (or something like them) I'm roughly the same height and size as you, also post menopause so I get bloating and I find these as comfortable as pyjamas. I got mine from Very last summer but I can't find them on the site any more.

Uniqlo do a narrower leg one and their barrel leg trousers are very comfortable too. Also I have these brushed cotton ones that you hardly feel you're wearing them.

I also find, for proper jeans, a lower rise is more comfortable. With high rise ones I can feel my stomach pressing against them. I got nice ones from Levi and Hollister

Nutcrackerglasses · 20/02/2026 10:07

You need Halara! I've only just discovered them. They do a range of jeans, leggings, trousers, skirts & shorts and everything else BUT they are all stretchy! They are so comfortable I have bought 3 pairs of jeans. I hate jeans but these are all mega stretchy and soft, feel amazing on your mid section. Loads of styles colours and lengths to choose from 👍

MiffyPurple · 20/02/2026 11:26

I wear leggings from Popsy Clothing, joggers from Llama Clothing and Alexa trousers from Lucy and Yak. Alexas are fab if you want comfort - elasticated waist and straight leg which are usually turned up. I keep my plain black leggings from M&S for housework now!

Pineneedlesincarpet · 20/02/2026 09:29

These fellers are good, OP. Very useful in many scenarios plus lots of lengths to chose from.

Jersey Wide Leg Trousers with Stretch | M&S | M&S https://share.google/NXsx9X70lPRv6bZQw

I second these, plus the various other pull on jersey trousers that M&S do. You can make them look smarter or more casual.

Brightlittlecanary · 20/02/2026 11:51

I can’t understand why the op asks how to move away from leggings, and people are suggesting leggings, or jeggings. She didn’t say I love leggings, recommend me more.

HappyFace2025 · 20/02/2026 12:02

I have two pairs of TU elastic back trousers one slim line and the other wide led. Both are very comfy and look smarter than leggings. Bought both on Vinted.

BunnyLake · 20/02/2026 13:55

We have the same uniform 😁

Someone on MN recently recommended a site called Halara, which I am going to buy from as I also need to be surgically removed from my leggings!

No way. Halara won't accept exchanges or refund. If you need to send them back you pay to send them to China. Never again.

Nutcrackerglasses · 20/02/2026 14:31

Oh I didn't know that, I bought mine on Vinted. Easy peasy!
