What 3 things (not surgery) that have noticeably improved you skin?

I have so many cream and potions and I am a sucker for any new beauty product on the market. Half the time I'm not sure if any of it actually works but keep using it anyway. What 3 things would you say have actually improved your ageing skin? I religiously take collagen, but not sure if this is working and have started tret but forever have dry patches. I also wear sunscreen.

  1. Tretinoin 0.025, a miracle worker
  2. Collagen which I have in my coffee. A noticeable difference in skin, hair and nails if I dont take it
  3. Giving up alcohol. Skin plumper and clearer

Sleep makes a big difference to me as well

Drinking lots water, really good sleep

Ive just read that applying vaginal oestrogen cream to the face can cause pigmentation and melasma so I'll definitely be giving that a miss

Putting a bottle of E45 next to the soap on my wash hand basin. It’s the only way I can remember/be bothered to moisturize my hands often enough.

@XiCi thank, I didn't know i could get it elsewhere, whats the postage like? how much and do it take long to come?

Sleep
Water
Double cleansing with oil based then water based cleansers
(Mandelic acid and retinol at night- on alternative nights)

Yup. Took a wee while to work but pretty sure it’s helped a lot. My neck seems to be a lost cause but face and bit below neck have improved a lot.

Would be great to know exactly what's improved – did it improve wrinkles, texture, pore size, redness, sagging, plumpness? All insight gratefully received!

Cutting out alcohol made more difference than everything else combined.

dicentra365 · 19/02/2026 17:56

@ACommonTreasuryForAll i think Biore Watery Essence is the best for this. I started using it after a recommendation and it is really light in texture, doesn’t block pores or leave any white shadow on skin.

Lots of water,a bit of sun(I always look better with a bit of colour - from a bottle or the actual sun) and very little lotions and potions. I use Nivea Q10 and a cleanser (hot cloth in the evening to take my make up off, normal foam one or soap in the morning) and occasionally a toner and nothing else.

I've been taking biotin (with zinc and selenium) for perimenopause hair loss and not only has it helped with my hair and nails but I noticed the other day my skin also looks better (it wasn't bad anyway but it has a bit more of a youthful glow to it).

The postage is quite steep at 20 US dollars and takes about a week. I got 3 tubes of Tretin A cream though for $20 which is miles cheaper than a UK subscription. I think the 3 tubes of Tretin and a tube of 10% Azeleic Acid plus international postage came to £37. A tube lasts me about 4 months

Mixing Estee Lauder advance night repair serum into my moisturiser.

Thanks @MrsCarmelaSoprano you've just saved me a step in my routine. I've no idea why didn't I think of doing this.

Botox + tret + vit c + spenny moisturiser (Obagi)

Goonie1 · 19/02/2026 22:34

I went natural. African black soap to clean, castor oil with certain essential oils to moisturise. Magic cloth (water only) to remove make up. Adult acne cleared up after a lifetime of issues.

JMSA · 20/02/2026 14:05

I have good skin but my sisters (in their 40s) have adult acne which used to cause them major breakouts. They swear by Equi London supplements, the beauty ones. They did nothing for me, but literally changed my sisters’ lives.

CookingFatCat · 20/02/2026 14:34

@XiCi my oestrogen cream is prescribed for my menopausal vagina but I think All Day Chemist have it too?
