What 3 things (not surgery) that have noticeably improved you skin?

I have so many cream and potions and I am a sucker for any new beauty product on the market. Half the time I'm not sure if any of it actually works but keep using it anyway. What 3 things would you say have actually improved your ageing skin? I religiously take collagen, but not sure if this is working and have started tret but forever have dry patches. I also wear sunscreen.

-Getting serious about spf and sun avoidance
-Gentle hydration and barrier care instead of chasing the latest actives
-Microneedling for textures/lines
-Cryotherapy and IPL for hyperpigmentation

Gentle exfoliation daily
Less alcohol
Protective overnight moisturiser (stopped my post-meno breakouts!)

I'm peri menopausal:

Estriol cream (topical estrogen used for vulva/vagina) has made a massive difference to my face - mix with moisturiser & use every other evening.
It also fixes itchy ears!!!

Tret (for the alternate evenings)

A good moisturiser

Botox about twice a year

CompanyOfThieves · 18/02/2026 15:13

Plenty of water, fresh vegetables and fruit.
I use Simple soap, followed by Epaderm cream for my very dry skin.

Tret Botox and Korean skin care

Double cleansing with a balm and cloth
Snail serum
Tan luxe face drops
Charlotte Tilbury eye revival patches

fucketyfucketyfuckerty · 18/02/2026 17:05

Water

La roche posay adaplene gel (it's a retinoid cream, so very similar to trent)

Facial treatments. I went for one a few months ago where they took a sucker device to my face, and it got all the face gunk out, and they showed it to you after. I've had weird perimenopause acne and this saved my skin to start it fresh with the gel to keep it mostly clear.

Tretinoin (subscription)

A consistent, basic skin care routine, recommended by my derm

Double cleansing at night with two gentle products - something oily, then Cetaphil Cream to Foam

Like everyone I am careful about SPF but I am not convinced that’s a key to the appearance of my skin. I am pretty happy overall, though

OneMintWasp · 18/02/2026 17:40

CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser. Its not fancy and the bottle looks more like somethinf the doctors prescribed but my husbamd bought it for dry skin, I use it daily and it is great.

boxofbuttons · 18/02/2026 17:55

Enough water. Retinol. SPF.

ReadingCrimeFiction · 18/02/2026 20:11

I have been really surprised by the impact of retinol. It really does make a difference.

As inhave got older, just have gone from just using water to clean in the morning to mildly exfoliating products and its made a huge difference to my skins smoothness. I think when I was younger it didnt need that and, in fact, my skin was so dry jt would have made it worse.

I also love vitamin c. I feel like it just brightens my skin every morning.

Omega 3,6,9 capsules from Sainsbury’s. Reduces fine lines and plumps my skin.

Drink Water, skincare routine including retinoids at night, and toner - I just use home made rose water with glycerin added in, when still damp a good moisturiser and then spf.

However - 👀 I’ve just recently added in hydraulic acid taken as a tablet at night,
500 mgs and three months later, my skin is visibly smoother and plumped up and hip pain vastly reduced.

That’s my anecdotal experience but I will be continuing with it for sure. 🤗

Spending at least a minute massaging in cleanser and ensuring it is totally removed.

Beauty of Joseon Apricot Peeling Gel

Increasing hygiene like not touching face, washing hands before doing skincare, clean facecloth with each cleanse, changing pillowcases after using overnight hair/skin mask.

Water, sleep (enough, but not too much or I get bags), fresh air. I tan easily so can be several shades lighter or darker during the year.
The best foundation product I have ever had for my skin is Estee Lauder Revitalizing Supreme CC Creme, as it works regardless of my colour of skin during the year, covers age pigment patches and is very natural / dewy. It is annoyingly expensive though (for a low maintenance sort of person). x
