Boho/Alt Mother of Groom outfit

My DS is getting married the end of May. The wedding is going to be a relaxed barn/field/festival vibe.

I’m mid 60s size 12. My usual style is very casual and I like to feel a bit alternative without actually standing out and looking like a slightly bonkers ageing hippy.

Where might I start looking for something that fits this admittedly fairly narrow spec?

Disturbia has some gorgeous dresses, great quality, ive had 4 different ones so far. All varying degressnof alternative (but unsure if its to your taste) and they dont break the bank either.

All the models appear to be early 20s to me and im mid 30s and still pull them off. Some more casual/formal than others. I'm a 12 and they're true to size.

Farm Rio is a great shout from a PP.

Never heard, how lovely are those?
The OP has said about £150 max though, these are double or more the price.

If she likes anything more expensive it is worth screenshotting and checking on Vinted or eBay - I got a £300 dress for £30 once!

Would need something over it and probably no use if you’re particularly busty

Over budget but stunning print

I wore this for a similar occasion. Really easy to wear.

There’s a woman on instagram called Toni Fifi who does boho styling. She’s based in Canada so no direct shop suggestions but lots of ideas.

I was going to recommend her too, she's brilliant

@user593That Bexley Chiffon dress is beautiful - a little pricy however! I’m thinking up to £150 max really

similar? @damekindness

Look at Pink City prints on Vinted

beautiful dresses

joanofaardvark · 16/02/2026 08:17

What about something from freepeople.com freepeople

Website looks mostly out of budget but there are some good options on Vinted.

I like Farm Rio dresses and think they could fit the bill and also be a bit special.

farmrio.uk/collections/maxi-dresses?page=2

Agree with Farm Rio but order nice and early as I bought some items in the sale recently and on one the zip was unusable and on the other the fastener was hanging by a thread. A pity as both were beautiful, but you may need time to return or repair.

OhDear111 · 16/02/2026 08:25

@Happyjoe Farm Rio are more but I think more of an investment. She is mother of the groom and definitely should avoid high street if at all possible. Looking at sales platforms might be worth it.

Neveranynamesleft · 16/02/2026 09:29

Definitely check out Vinted

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/02/2026 09:31

Not sure I agree re Vinted, unless the OP knows exactly what will fit her. Vintage stuff is very difficult to get the sizing right on.

OhDear111 · 16/02/2026 09:37

I bought a Shibumi coat decades ago. I’m assuming there’s younger owners now. Mine is pale blue silk coat with gold threads. Anyone aged 70 could wear it. Now I’m 70, it’s still good!

something gorgeous from one hundred stars
https://onehundredstars.co.uk/collections/velvet-coats-jackets/products/crane-emerald-velvet-grande over a simple single colour dress or trousers and top. Keep your eye on Vinted for different prints and fabrics. Cos do pleated basics which work well for layering.

That's lovely! I never wear dresses but that with wide trousers would be great

DualPower · 16/02/2026 09:52

It's tricky without knowing your height and budget, but I'd agree with AllSaints and would add Anthropologie to the mix.

damekindness · 16/02/2026 10:39

Many thanks for the suggestions - there are some beautiful ideas. In terms of height I’m 5’5” In terms of price point ideally around £150 - I can’t justify spending more on something I’d probably not get a chance to wear again. I’m also mid 60’s and whilst I agree one shouldn’t be confined by age, for me personally it’s important I’m not wearing something more suitable for a much younger person.
