A body warmer that doesn't look scruffy.

Help me find a body warmer that doesn't look fit for mucking out horses? I only wear the one I have for extra warmth on really cold days, but would like one I'm not ashamed of.

Budget? How warm does it need to be? Does it need to be waterproof, machine-washable etc?

I think the Uniqlo might be the winner. My old one is regatta and picks up cat hairs and looks cheap. It does do the job though...

Lands End.

HugoThatway · 15/02/2026 16:41

Fleece is brilliant at picking up hairs. The hair sort of weaves itself into the fleece.

I don't think the Uniqlo one looks smart or warm.

Joules ones are quite nice

Cyclingmummy1 · 16/02/2026 08:24

Underarmour

CherryogDog · 16/02/2026 09:40

@hexsnidgett I have horses and dogs too, wouldn't recommend anything down lined because of the faff of washing and drying them.
Fleece varies, I have some that I can fill haynets and be round dogs and horses and don't get anything stuck on them, and some that make me curse about the £5 worth of hay stuck to them.
If you're slim of hip (sadly not me), there's some quite smart gilets in the men's section in Lidl.
I've got Joules, Musto and Decathlon bodywarmers and have a preference for two way zips.

Shufflebumnessie · 16/02/2026 09:53

I have a Joules one and often get compliments on how nice it looks/fits.
It's similar to this (but I bought mine on Vinted, in excellent condition, for about £5).

There are a lot of horsey options on this thread? Maybe I worded my question badly and you all thought I wanted one for mucking out horses?
Anyway I have ordered a Uniqlo one as I had a voucher and it looked the plainest and least likely to pick up cat hair!

OP posts:
HugoThatway · 16/02/2026 11:23

I thought you wanted a warm equestrian type one, @hexsnidgett, for when you were doing something not muck outside.

The wording made it look like you had a horse in the yard and cats in the house.

HugoThatway · 16/02/2026 12:10

You also didn't reply to
Budget? How warm does it need to be? Does it need to be waterproof, machine-washable etc?

Had I started a thread saying
Help me find a body warmer that doesn't look fit for gardening? I only wear the one I have for extra warmth on really cold days, but would like one I'm not ashamed of.
what would you think I was after?

FluentTealGuide · 16/02/2026 17:05

I’m getting the vibe you want a ‘finance bro’ style one? (Not a jab.) In which case I recommend the Uni Qlo ones. DH has two and they are warm and good quality for the price. I also like that they have zip pockets (I have essentially stolen one for myself.) He has the coat version too and it’s great all year apart from when it gets bitterly cold.

Dahlagain · 17/02/2026 04:01

@hexsnidgett not sure if this would work but I wear a H&M running top which looks like a body warmer. Its slim fitting, looks stylish, part of their sports range.

redboxerclub · 17/02/2026 08:47

This is so funny OP. I knew exactly what you meant.

do you want to wear under a coat? What do you plan to wear it with?

CherryogDog · 17/02/2026 08:56

@hexsnidgett lol I reread your OP and realise my comprehension was rubbish!

thepurplepenguin · 17/02/2026 11:25

I have an Arne chocolate brown gilet/body warmer which I love a lot.
I read your OP as (it turns out) you intended, but then got confused by all the people suggesting equestrian stuff and thought I had misread it!

NancyJoan · 17/02/2026 12:53

I like the the v light weight Uniqlo ones to wear under a blazer/wool coat for an extra layer.

minipie · 17/02/2026 16:44

H&M and Zara often do these and they look more fashion / sporty rather than horsey,

Look for puffer vest (rather than gilet or bodywarmer). I have a cropped one from Zara that looks a lot more up to date than my old Joules one.
