Too white for a wedding guest dress?

EndlessCupsofSugaryTea · 14/02/2026 14:00

I have my eye on this for a spring wedding. I love prints, it’s silk and is in the sale - perfect combination.

However, I showed it to my mother and she said “But it’s white!” in a horrified way. I was bewildered. I don’t believe most people’s first thought on looking at this would be “white”. To me, it’s all about the print - and in any case, the background looks more cream to me.

I love it, but not for the first time, my mother has created a nagging doubt. Would anyone really think I was trying to look remotely bridal in this?

It’s silk and white. Wear something else 🙄

This marks one of the more ridiculous comments on the thread - or maybe even full stop.

Attention-seeking? Really?! You think someone looking to be the centre of attention would choose a high-neck, long-sleeved floral dress? Not some low-cut tight number with a big split up the side?

Honestly, there are some people who are either completely deluded or just enjoy making trouble.

Wear it then.

I don’t think I was disagreeing with you. That comment was to somebody talking nonsense about the dress being attention seeking.

I know! I said I agreed with you. The post you were challenging was utter nonsense (and kind of weird - do wedding guests really huddle together commenting in that way?)

EndlessCupsofSugaryTea · 15/02/2026 12:03

ERthree · 15/02/2026 11:57

Wear it then.

If you’ve read the thread, you’ll see I’ve already had second thoughts. But because of the sensible comments many posters have made - not deranged ramblings about attention seeking.

You know it is but wear it as you obviously want to be centre of attention but just know when everyone is talking about you it won't be nice comments, it will be about how you are attention seeking you are.

That is deranged. And kind of weird and nasty too. Do guests at the weddings you go to usually huddle together to make nasty comments about what someone else is wearing?

pinkpony88 · 15/02/2026 12:18

I think it’s too white. You will stand out in the photos as being white, despite the flowers.

It is not a wedding dress.

Nameday24 · 15/02/2026 12:28

@EndlessCupsofSugaryTea I went to a wedding last year and the mother of the bride wore this. I am surprised people say it looks bridal! Well I saw it in person and it was definitely cream and the big flowers at the top of the dress added a lot of colour. Also the little flowers throughout were again doing enough to break up the rest of the dress.

If you like it OP I'd wear it, if anyone is offended then that says more about them that you!

BlackCat14 · 15/02/2026 12:31

Don’t wear it.

tsalty · 15/02/2026 12:55

@EndlessCupsofSugaryTea it’s so sad that there has to be so many negative comments on a post about a dress. Where are the days when you can just ‘be’ without it being about upstaging the bride, being neurodiverse or being rude. For me, it’s a beautiful dress, and it would not have bothered me in the slightest if you had worn it to my wedding. I don’t think I would even have noticed it was white. But obviously that is just me. By the posting trend on here, I must be ND and clueless to your true intentions, OP!

There really are some completely fucking bonkers comments on here!

Well there you go @EndlessCupsofSugaryTea - the most valid opinion on the thread!!!

I would absolutely order it to see if you love it on. And to be on the safe side & avoid any confusion with the bride ... get this hat 😁

What a ridiculous thing to say. If you choose not to follow standard etiquette around wedding attire then it absolutely does not say no re about those that are offended.

At best, it suggests a lack of consideration.

It’s no different from ordering the most expensive item on the menu when you’re a guest, turning up to a party empty-handed, bringing an uninvited plus one, or posting selfies at a funeral. These are all things you might “like” doing but basic courtesy is about recognising when something isn’t about you and that your behaviour might adversely affect the people whose day it is about, or those that care about them or are hosting you.

OhDear111 · 15/02/2026 14:08

Standard etiquette is not wearing pure white or plain ivory!! Not a light colour with numerous flowers on it that definitely isn’t sold in a wedding dress shop!!! This is just judicious. What younger bride would wear this?? No one.

It’s this year’s season on Hobbs. Were they selling it last year?

MyNextDoorNeighbourVotesReform · 15/02/2026 14:11

Absolutely NOT to be worn as a wedding guest.

“Everyone is talking about you”

wtf

Do you think this because you would be bitching about a guest @ERthree ?

cleaningthebog · 15/02/2026 14:36

It's lovely OP. Very stylish. It's not a bride's dress! I've never come across this issue of wondering what colour to wear to a wedding except on this site. Ridiculous. Everyone will know who the bride is.

cleaningthebog · 15/02/2026 14:39

EndlessCupsofSugaryTea · 14/02/2026 16:14

Also completely out of stock, unfortunately 🙁 But they do have something similar in green, which might work:

The Green one is not a patch on the cream one your first posted.

Princessfluffy · 15/02/2026 15:43

You will look like a bride wannabe OP

shuffleofftobuffalo · 15/02/2026 15:44

You could pass for the bride in that!

They had a similar one last year that, ironically, was heavier on the print, so might have solved the perceived problem of “too much white” (that is actually cream).

I prefer the cream too, but I think there are too many negative views on this thread to ignore.
