Has anyone had a facial mole removed?

Long story short I am getting a small cyst removed (privately) and when I spoke to the consultant today it would only cost me an extra £250 to get a mole removed at the same time. It’s quite prominent and will leave a small scar but I’ve always hated it and would love it gone.

Has anyone had this done? How long did it take to heal? Do you miss your missing mole?

My mum thinks I’m silly and it’s just part of me. I think while I’m getting one thing done I might as well make use of a good deal!

I had a pale mole/large freckle removed about 10 years ago as my dermatologist said that it was changing so best to get rid of it.

It took about a minute, no visible scarring, I can’t even remember exactly where it was now. So don’t worry about it, it’ll be fine.

I had a facial cyst removed on the nhs years ago, it came back and looks worse.

Just to add that my mole was removed by a plastic surgeon, on dermatologist’s advice.

I concur with a plastic surgeon.

Not quite the same but DD had a large weeping cyst removed from her inner arm privately. Our GP did the referral and told her to make sure she chose a plastic surgeon for the procedure as general surgeons can be a bit like a butcher! She picked a local one off Bupa’s list and he did a beautiful job. She has a tiny hairline scar that you have to hunt for.

Bully for you. It's not for you to say what other people 'need' to do their own face though.

Is anyone able to say what their mole was like before removal? Or attach a cropped photo? I have one I'd like to be removed but it doesn't have a clearly defined border - imagine a volcano rising up from the earth rather than an eg a cow pat plonked on the ground, if that makes any sense?!

@SyntheticFluff THIS is what my neck mole was like, (this is not me, but a stock photo off the internet.) It was on my neck sort of under my chin. I also had one on my cheekbone, not far from my ear. That was pretty similar. The size is close to what mine were too.

I had both removed at the same time - on the NHS. I don't think they do it now - this was before covid. I HATED these moles so much that I used to airbrush them out on photos. I was so happy to get rid of them! As other posters have said, I was in and out within half an hour. (I had it done in the Minor Injuries Clinic at the Doctors Surgery...)

Oh, and the scar(s) were tiny. You can't see them now, and I can't even remember exactly where the moles were!

Edited to add..... I was 39 when I had them removed. I had always had them (obvs) but they weren't that noticeable or prominent really, up to when I hit my early to mid 30s... Then they seemed to look more prominent for some reason. No way was I keeping them!

Yes. I’ve had two removed from my face and so pleased I did. I did time it for a period in time where I didn’t have any social events but I think after a week it was healed and easily hidden.

StudyinBlue · 14/02/2026 12:20

Interestingly a friend of mine asked why I had a small plaster by tge side of my chin and I explained I’d had a mole removed. She was surprised and said she’d never noticed it so it goes to show we do tend to obsess about things on our faces that no one else notices.

Moulez · 14/02/2026 12:39

On a thread about it? No. Of course not.

sonjadog · 14/02/2026 12:48

I had one removed from just above my lip. It has left a tiny scar but it is only really visible if you know it is there. In any case, I much prefer the tiny scar to the mole. I went to specialist and pay to get it done, so as you have someone with lots of experience. He took off 3 other moles at the time. The one on my stomach did not heal well and left a scar, but the others were no problem at all.

I'll try and attach some pictures of the moles on my face that I had removed (Mumsnet hasn't been good at uploading my photos recently)

Pre-removal picture and 2 post removal pictures, the scar is more noticeable when my cheeks are red.

Both my facial moles were ones that were kind of like how you describe them, they weren't a case of slice off there was a bit of digging so there will always be the scars left. I had 2 on my neck removed at the same time that were ones that sat on top of the skin that were just sliced off and there is no scar at all.
