Has anyone had a facial mole removed?

Long story short I am getting a small cyst removed (privately) and when I spoke to the consultant today it would only cost me an extra £250 to get a mole removed at the same time. It’s quite prominent and will leave a small scar but I’ve always hated it and would love it gone.

Has anyone had this done? How long did it take to heal? Do you miss your missing mole?

My mum thinks I’m silly and it’s just part of me. I think while I’m getting one thing done I might as well make use of a good deal!

Is anyone able to say what their mole was like before removal? Or attach a cropped photo? I have one I'd like to be removed but it doesn't have a clearly defined border - imagine a volcano rising up from the earth rather than an eg a cow pat plonked on the ground, if that makes any sense?!

I had mine removed on my jawline. Dont regret it and didnt feel any pain. Do have a scar though x

Sorry to jump on to your thread but how do you find somebody reputable to remove moles? I have a large one just underneath a nostril and it bloody hurts when I have a cold and need to wipe it constantly. GP refuses to remove it as it's not cancerous 🙄

G.P's won't remove moles nowadays as they're considered cosmetic so you have to pay privately.

I went to a skin clinic that removed moles along with other treatments,. Look at reviews and make sure it is a good clinic. Recommend, well worth doing.

I also actually had a seborrheic keratosis removed too from my chest. Hated it too. Slight scarring - nothing really.

How did you find a professional you trusted when it’s on your face?

Francestein · 13/02/2026 00:01

I am about to get two removed (from my forehead and a huge one on my cheek), plus a virtually invisible one on my waterline that irritates my eyeball. I’m not concerned about scarring as I saw how fantastically my best friend healed after having a very large melanoma removed and the skin flap to get all the margins was huge. You have to look very carefully to see her scar.

Elbowpatch · 13/02/2026 00:03

I had one removed from my chin and have no scar. It was 40 years ago though.

Mine Is also ‘volcanic’. It’s not particularly dark but it feels like the base is wider than the summit lol, so I was quite surprised he can take it off so easily.

I had one on my face and one on my neck removed (shaved then cauterised) in 2021. Took about 10 days to heal to pink with plenty Vaseline on the wounds to stop scarring.

My face you would never tell anything was there, my neck has a flat scar but doesn't bother me. Mine were raised like cocopops and didn't need stitching.

Wish I had done it years before. £250 is a bargain, I was £1500 for both but think the histopathology was the most expensive part

Histopathology testing was a few hundred quid more, but as I’ve had this mole over 30 years I’ve declined. He was fine with that as says he’s seen hundreds of cancerous moles and is sure this isn’t one.

6 weeks ago I had a mole whipped off my face.
Stitches removed 7 days after.

No idea what it looks like scar wise, I’ve got zero interest, haven’t looked, never look in the mirror and have never taken a selfie in my life. But no one has commented so can’t be too hideous.

Very smooth process, in and out in around 40 minutes so went before work to get it done. Zero inconvenience and I went straight to work after it. Stitches removed on my lunch break.

No cancer detected.

My relative had a suspect mole removed while she was undergoing breast cancer treatment. Just looked like a normal mole to us but the surgeon suggested he remove it just in case while he had the tools to hand during mastectomy surgery!

It left a tiny scar but only really noticeable if you looked closely or if she had a bit of a tan in the summer as the scar tissue stayed quite white and shiny.

Pyjamatimenow · 13/02/2026 00:17

I used to work in a clinic that did these. It was always straightforward and they healed well. I always remember one lady in her fifties that had come in with her friend who was having something else done. She had a big one on her nose and while she was waiting started asking me about what treatments we did. I casually mentioned mole removal and she started telling me how she’d been bullied as a kid and called a witch because of it. I convinced her to go for it and she was absolutely over the moon.

I had two black moles removed from my chin in my mid thirties, the procedure was fine - I went to a private dermatologist. One was very deep and bled a lot during the procedure and they both took a looong time to heal, leaving smooth, obvious scars that I didn’t like but they could be covered by makeup.

Fifteen years on now and they’ve slowly grown back, and although they’re not black any more so less noticeable than when I was young its still very disappointing.

edit to add - I declined histopathogy as I’d had them since I was a small child and was 36 when I had them removed for purely cosmetic reasons.

I guess mine could have been described like that.

This page might be useful to read and a bit like mine

Yes one tiny bit of mine has tried to come back but it’s so much smaller than before. I wonder where it’s like one cells was missed or something! But the lady did warn me at the time it can happen and said well you can always get it done again if it does. And tbh it’s such a small thing now I wouldn’t bother. And it’s 99% better than before so I’m happy overall

If you never look at the mirror, how did you know you had a mole on your face?

Felt it while washing my face.
It sprung up new and got “lumpier” to the touch. It was near my ear on the side of my face so couldn’t see it even if I did look in the mirror.
Wanted it whipped off in case it was suspicious.

VanCleefArpels · 13/02/2026 08:21

I had a raised mole removed from my naso labial fold, required stitches and you’d never know. That’s because it was done by a proper plastic surgeon. I think that’s the main thing you need to consider: the surgeon’s speciality.

This is what I mean - a non plastic surgeon doing facial mole removal and leaving a scar!

How did you find a professional you trusted when it’s on your face?

I went to a private skin clinic in my local area. Honestly, I wish I had had the mole removed years ago. As a PP said, some people when I was talking to them were being distracted by my facial mole. Plus, as I said, it was getting bigger and bigger and hairier. Mine too was shaved and cauterised, no stitches. I also kept applying vaseline to avoid scarring. Now, it's a tiny white circle barely noticeable. The doctor did warn it might grow back (!!) but he said it's not that common to grow back. It cost £750 for mole removal about a year ago.

TwattingDog · 13/02/2026 08:35

I've had several lumps and bumps removed from my face, chest and bust area. Barely any marks left on my skin, all healed well.

Would highly recommend it! I have a horror of ending up like my elderly great auntie with huge lumps on her chin, neck and eyelids (as I kid I thought she was a witch which seems so mean now) so every single one that rears up gets the treatment.... I'm on my 40s and have spotted two more developing - they'll be gone as soon as they are big enough!

I'd rather the scar than the lump any day, but I have barely anything visible anywhere.

BoardBoredBared · 13/02/2026 08:45

@WinterBlues26 just google mole removal and your area and then look into skin clinics and dermatology. You do not really want a GP removing it, they are not cosmetic surgeons you want someone who does this day in day out. This is your face, you want a skilled professional.

I had one removed from my face as I kept catching it. Healed beautifully. Mine was removed by laser as it was small enough and cost £375, additional moles are £125 each. Some are larger and need surgical removal.

The clinic I went to allowed you to upload photos of your mole and then they would quote you from that. Then an in person appointment, then booked in for surgery.

honeylulu · 13/02/2026 09:04

Not quite the same but I had a small facial lump removed in November (not a mole but it kept bleeding if I caught it). They had to dig deeper than skin level to make sure they got it all and it initially left a crater and it was a bit messy for 2-3 weeks when healing. But now it feels and looks completely smooth again (admittedly I do have fairly uneven skin tone so wear foundation daily anyway). It was also tested and was pre-cancerous so glad it's gone!

Was done at a private dermatology clinic but under referral from the NHS so also free! So I agree with the posters saying as long as its a dermatology specialist they will know what they are doing and hopefully any scar will fade or be barely noticeable. Also from a vanity perspective, moles look bigger as you get older as the skin gets baggier and they hang forward. I am considering going back to the clinic as a private patient for mole mapping and having the most prominent ones whipped off even if not "needed" medically.

Snootsnoot · 13/02/2026 09:15

I had 2 removed. I don't regret one of them which was about 1cm round but I do regret one that was more of a prominent mole at the front of my face. I had it looked at with the other as I saw the other had widened and the smaller had stuck out more and possibly got 2 colours. I wish in hindsight I had had it shaved down (not actually sure if that is possible?) just to take the height off and have the colour and shape still there. I now have a white mark where the mole was that I feel you can see and have been tempted to get it tattooed back on (!). It might not help that I am freckly do the white spot is quite odd on my face.

Belladog1 · 13/02/2026 10:02

I didn't have the mole on my face sliced off, but I did have it burnt off. It cost me £100. I was warned that it might grow a bit and I might need another session, and it has ... but whereas my mole was large, protruding and dark brown, now it is slightly raised and the same colour as my face. I can definitely live with the way it looks now, but I am often tempted to go back for another session.

I had the mole on my face since a teenager, and it never really bothered me. But when I was early 20s a really cute salesman came into our office. He phoned in the next day and asked to speak with my boss and I said "oh hi, I met you yesterday" and he said "oh yes, the girl with the mole". I suddenly felt so self conscious of it and felt that the mole was all anyone saw when they looked at me.
