How much for hair colouring, cut and tip these days

My hairdresser has just increased her prices and I’m wondering how much people are paying these days. I have highlights/lowlights regularly (2 colours to blend greys) with foils and then a cut and blow dry, although it’s maintenance so not much to cut off in long hair. How much would you be happy to pay and how much would you tip? I’m in the Midlands.

South Midlands and my daughter pays about £120 for foils and the cut and blowdry. We don’t tip but do give a bottle of good wine at Xmas. She’s the co-owner.

I’ve been paying £69 for a full head of colour, half head of foils, cut & blow dry, for very short hair and I’m in the north. I get the foils every other visit with root colour and cut/blow dry each visit. and visit the hairdressers every 6 weeks due to my hairstyle.

I usually tip a tenner but reading many of the posts, it seems it’s outdated and insulting, so maybe I should stop but then I think when I read how much many of you are paying, I’m getting an absolute bargain so adding on a tenner still keeps the cost very reasonable,

I’ve had to change hairdressers since and am yet to have the full lot mentioned above, so it’ll be interesting to see the new cost but I don’t expect it to be significantly higher.

They’ve just put their prices up to £220 for full head, tint, cut and blow dry by the junior stylist.

currently shopping around as can’t justify that every 8-10 weeks (although I get a full head once or twice a year and half the rest of the time)

edited to add that’s zone 6 in London

£170 for half head of foils, olaplex cut and blow dry every 8 weeks. SE England. She’s the salon owner so other stylists may be cheaper but I am happy to pay a bit more for her experience.

Fuck. Me.
My hairdresser comes to my house, takes half an inch off my hair and puts on my Clairol Nice n easy all for the princely sum of £34.
I must remind my DH how low maintenance I am 😂

My DH does my roots in between my hair cuts. He charges nothing, and doesn't ask me about my holidays 😂. Bargain.

I pay £130 and live in Shetland. Whilst I am very happy with my hair, I do not tip. I have to work a number of hours to afford it!

I have half a head of foils in two colours, trim and blow dry/straighten/bouncy curls - whatever I fancy. It's £54. I used to tip but haven't since I stopped working. I'm in NE England.

So am I. I pay more than that for the cut 😆

Waitingfordoggo · 06/02/2026 21:09

I pay about £160 for balayage, wash trim, blow dry and styling. I have that done twice a year. In between, I’ll have roots done and a trim which costs less but I can’t remember how much. Maximum of probably four appointments a year. I don’t tip. I really like the stylist and she does a good job, but the cost is already astronomical so I don’t feel a tip is needed. Hopefully the stylist earns enough through her wage.

cobrapaw · 06/02/2026 21:14

My hairdressers charges £195.

RachTheAlpaca · 06/02/2026 23:55

No tip, we're becoming too American!

Ionlymakejokestodistractmyself · 07/02/2026 00:06

Around 100 with my stylist but in a salon it's more like 150.

I only get my hair done four times a year as a result!

SheThinksShesAllThat · 07/02/2026 11:50

I’m a hairdresser, south west.
I charge £120 for what you’re talking about.

I think what people tend to miss and assume because they have shorter hair or don’t have that much cut off it shouldn’t cost as much. We still section the same, check the cut, finish the cut when blow dried, and finished with a good blow dry. As for foils it takes time to do a good job, the years of experience behind a good hairdresser is worth paying.

I have clients who travel 45min/1hr to come and see me.

WelcometomyUnderworld · 07/02/2026 13:52

Had my hair done in January - full colour change, including foils, cut from “bra strap length” to my shoulder and styled, no olaplex. I don’t tip, £120 NW England.
