How much for hair colouring, cut and tip these days

Stalygirl · 05/02/2026 13:34

My hairdresser has just increased her prices and I’m wondering how much people are paying these days. I have highlights/lowlights regularly (2 colours to blend greys) with foils and then a cut and blow dry, although it’s maintenance so not much to cut off in long hair. How much would you be happy to pay and how much would you tip? I’m in the Midlands.

My hairdresser comes to my house. She charges £80 for Balayage & cut, sometimes she'll diffuse my hair but most times I tell her not to worry as I prefer to do it myself.
It's £30 for a cut.
I'm in the South East.
I give her some cash in a Christmas card each year as a little extra.

Nofilter · 05/02/2026 19:04

I dye mine myself and have it cut twice a year it’s not even about the money I’m really rubbish at keeping up appointments in general but these prices do shock me ouch!!

LethargeMarg · 05/02/2026 19:25

East mids, half head high lights (looks v blonde) cut and blow dry £73 I round up to £80. I know this is cheap as I have paid twice this at another salon

PistachioTiramisu · 05/02/2026 19:31

£120 every 3 weeks for root colour and blow dry/curly.

All over colour, cut, and blow dry on shoulder length hair - £80 every 8-12 weeks, hairdresser has a home salon with 2 chairs, sometimes has someone else in but not often. In the South West.

Same. Also south west.

WhatEvenIsMyPassword · 05/02/2026 19:42

£25 for cut at hairdressing school. Takes 3 hours though. With a median take home pay in London of £12 per hour, means it costs £55 if you deduct my salary for the extra 2.5 hours

Mind you last time I had it done in a salon in London, they charged £90 and didn't get it done super quick either and she tried really hard to just give me a trim instead of taking a good amount off of it.

Silverbirchleaf · 05/02/2026 19:46

Around £90 for cut and colour. Hairdresser has salon in a summer house in her garden.

Used to go to a hair salon, but for health reasons, my hairdresser gave up doing a colour. His colleague did my colour and it cost around £125 just for the colour. Stopped going there. That was more than my hairdresser, working in the chair next for him was charging for cut and colour! (A year ago).

SouthernComforter · 05/02/2026 21:42

Tried a new hairdresser recently - balayage, cut, blow dry was just over £200 in Brighton. Jesus! I am mid 40s and think I need to consider other options to cover the greys beginning to come through. Root smudge? All over colour? I dunno.

Tryagain26 · 05/02/2026 21:45

I pay about £100. Roots cover and highlights , cut and dry. In the North
I only tip at Christmas

CherryBlossom321 · 05/02/2026 21:49

North West, £80, no tip. Full head foils, toner, wash, cut, blow dry and style.

TyingTreesTogether · 05/02/2026 18:41

@Polremy hair down to the bra strap band across your back. I thought it was a well known phrase.

Thanks. It probably is but I’d never heard it before. Every days a school day!

Gardenbird123 · 05/02/2026 22:14

I have half a head of foils in two colours, trim and blow dry/straighten/bouncy curls - whatever I fancy. It's £54. I used to tip but haven't since I stopped working. I'm in NE England.

EverythingIsComputer · 05/02/2026 22:22

£140-160 depending on how many foils, I don’t tip. Was just at my salon and the manager was going through the costs which came up in conversation, their supplies have increased plus energy costs are high (like they are for all of us), business rates are huge… he can see it from all sides.

rocketmaaaan · 05/02/2026 22:25

Fuck. Me.
My hairdresser comes to my house, takes half an inch off my hair and puts on my Clairol Nice n easy all for the princely sum of £34.
I must remind my DH how low maintenance I am 😂

VanityUnit66 · 05/02/2026 22:27

£150 south east

RaraRachael · 05/02/2026 22:30

I'm £60 for full head, one colour, no highlights.

I don't give a tip.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 05/02/2026 22:36

The prices you are all paying so regularly!!! We need photos I think.

Greencactusgirl · 05/02/2026 22:38

Half head highlights, cut and blow dry costs me £75 (oop North!)

RaininSummer · 05/02/2026 22:51

I'm also a bit shocked at these prices. I dye my own so about a fiver every eight weeks and 25 on the cut. I do get a lot of compliments on my hair but I imagine you lot all have magnificent hair though.

PhantomG · 05/02/2026 23:09

I had mine done yesterday - roots, foil highlights, wet cut = £75

I only have it cut a couple of times a year so generally pay £55 every 8 weeks. I don't tip except for Christmas.

BauhausOfEliott · 05/02/2026 23:30

I’ve got a short bob and I have a tint to cover my greys, and then vivid colour panel put in, which requires bleaching first. Costs £165.

I don’t tip my stylist because she’s the salon owner and she’s adamant that it isn’t required. When someone else does it or an apprentice washes it, an option comes up on the card machine to tip them, but when it’s the salon owner she disables that option so people can’t tip her.

Where in the north west please? I need to go there!

I’m not sharing my exact location, but let’s say it’s not an unusual price in small, run down towns and villages in this part of the country with high levels of deprivation.

Me too! I think I must have got out of touch looking at some of these prices. Cost was £98 today and I usually tip £10, but driving home, I was thinking I should get used to the idea of going grey!

Sounds like a bargain compared to some of these prices!
