How much for hair colouring, cut and tip these days

My hairdresser has just increased her prices and I’m wondering how much people are paying these days. I have highlights/lowlights regularly (2 colours to blend greys) with foils and then a cut and blow dry, although it’s maintenance so not much to cut off in long hair. How much would you be happy to pay and how much would you tip? I’m in the Midlands.

OP posts:

Highlights, a full head tint, cut and blow dry (with Olaplex treatment) costs around £230 for me. I tip £25 (split between colourist, stylist and junior).

Vargas · 05/02/2026 13:43

Roots, cut and blow dry was £155 last time.

applecharlotte · 05/02/2026 13:53

I have exactly the same as you done OP. It costs £115 by a mobile hairdresser, based in East London. I tip a tenner on top of that.

TyingTreesTogether · 05/02/2026 14:10

My hair is bra strap length. I have been going to the same hairdresser for 10 years. I have a maintenance root and halo highlights in between.

This week was back to a full head of highlights using foils, plus root touch up colour on the ones not highlighted (in between the foils) Olaplex, a head massage whilst the toner is on, cut and blow dry, £130. My lovely hairdresser has her salon on her property and does it all. Whilst my colour develops she has another client in.

If I am just having roots plus cut it is £65 so that is my basic visit.

Heyitsmeeee · 05/02/2026 18:08

£130 for the same every 3 months for hair just past shoulders

Cyclingmummy1 · 05/02/2026 18:10

£130 ish though I'm expecting it to have gone up when I go next week.

Superhansrantowindsor · 05/02/2026 18:16

130 for roots, highlights and cut. I don’t tip except at Christmas.

FancyCatSlave · 05/02/2026 18:21

I don’t tip.

I pay £98 for all over perm tint, cut and blow dry. Full head highlight, cut and blow dry is £135.

Rural East Mids.

Mummytotheboy · 05/02/2026 18:21

East Midlands based, I have full head foils, toner, wash cut and blow dry and pay £140

StrawberryJamAndRaspberryPie · 05/02/2026 18:23

I’d expect that to be £150 colour + £50 for cut and blow dry. Am I happy to pay? No… but thts what it costs. I don’t tip because they’ve set their prices and they earn more than I do 😂 I’m in outer London.

IchiNiSanShiGo · 05/02/2026 18:25

All over colour, cut, and blow dry on shoulder length hair - £80 every 8-12 weeks, hairdresser has a home salon with 2 chairs, sometimes has someone else in but not often. In the South West.

Icouldwriteabookonmydisastrouslife · 05/02/2026 18:26

I wouldn’t be thinking about a tip if you’re struggling to pay for the service itself. I’m sure they know that the prices these days less people will be giving them tips. They earn a wage like everyone else .

Screamingabdabz · 05/02/2026 18:31

I pay about £150 for half an head and a cut and don’t tip. Why are people tipping? I think it’s ridiculous pricing. I’m often not even happy with it. I’m trying to watch more YouTube videos and learn how to do it myself.

How long is a bra strap?

Mumstheword1983 · 05/02/2026 18:34

I'm £60 for half head of foils and a trim. I don't tip.

Watchoutfortheslowaraf · 05/02/2026 18:36

Last week I paid £90 for ballayage foils, a cut and a curly blow dry. That included £5 tip

LabOwner95 · 05/02/2026 18:40

My hairdresser admittedly is very reasonably priced. I pay around £90 for half a head of highlights, which includes cut, blow-dry and toner. I'll be honest, I don't tip.

TyingTreesTogether · 05/02/2026 18:41

@Polremy hair down to the bra strap band across your back. I thought it was a well known phrase.

RagzRebooted · 05/02/2026 18:42

I have mine either highlights or tinted (alternate visits) and either a trim or full cut, plus wash and blow dry/style every 7 weeks and the most I've paid so far is £85, least was £75 (depending on cut or just trim). I'm in the north east and it's a fairly small village salon. I expected it to cost a lot more, but I'd never been to a proper hairdresser until last year so had no idea what to expect.

Sanch1 · 05/02/2026 18:43

£70 for that for me and if I’m going out she styles or puts it up for me. She works from a small basement room and I’ve had her for years. Based on the prices on this thread I’ll by gutted if she ever quits! 😱

MidnightMeltdown · 05/02/2026 18:44

About £170 for balayage, cut and blow dry. I could pay less if I had a more junior stylist, but I think it’s worth paying the extra. I only get it coloured twice a year.

BratPitt · 05/02/2026 18:46

Root tint, cut and blow dry around £180 for mid level stylist. Zone 2 London.

Onemoret1me · 05/02/2026 18:51

£140. I wouldn’t tip as I feel that’s expensive already

Lordofmyflies · 05/02/2026 18:54

Root, cut and blow dry £60 (Cornwall)
Sometimes I'll have balayage which takes it up to £90.
Been with him for years. No tip but I usually bring him a bottle of wine, plant for the garden or other random gift for him and his partner.

Thats for highlights, colour, cut , wash and bloqdry, straighten. Ive moved 50 miles away and still go to her. If she quits, i am shaving my hair off.
