Swimming costume / larger bust

pouletvous · 04/02/2026 18:22

I love swimming and need a decent cossie. Im not huge, but am overweight and have large bust. Size 14 with FF cup

i need something practical that i can swim in 2/3 times a week that doesnt look obscene around the boobs

ideally with underwire or proper support

ive tried loads. Most of them come with a bra strap. I cant do those up by myself and I don’t want to get stuck asking for help from random naked ladies in the
locker rooms every time i go.

i bought one from Fantasie last year. It cost £80 pounds and now looks like a saggy bin liner

any suggestions?

Assuming this is for swimming rather than lounging by a pool, could you just wear a sports bra or wired bikini under a some sort of regular costume.

I haven’t seen any sort of supportive costumes that don’t have the bra built in. I struggle to get those done up too.

I've recommended this suit many times on MN. I'm a size 18-20 and have have 38J boobs. I never had a suit which isn't underwired because I need the support. Its a tankini top with various bottom options. They used to sell shorts, bikini bottoms, a 50's style higher waisted bottoms and also a skirted option. I'm not sure what they have now. I love it because it looks like a one piece but has the convenience of being 2.

Its holds me up and keeps everything in!

Thanks. I have a few tankinis already including one very similar. I agree that it is easier to get a tankini to fit nicely and they are more flattering but I prefer a one piece for swimming. The tankini top tends to ride up or flap around a lot . Maybe that’s the best option though

Freya does a good range; tankinis are often a good bet as you get tummy coverage but can put on backwards, do up the bra hooks / support strap at the front and the swivel it round to the back (unlike with a one piece).

Unfortunately my boobs have gone from a G to a J since having DC so the selection in my size is now v limited & strangely all bikini tops with no tummy coverage (I'm also a 14 so its needed)! But I had some lovely very supportive bits from there when I was a bit smaller chested.

Isadora2007 · 04/02/2026 19:07

I went on next and ordered a few in my bra size (36G) and bought two. One does fasten a bit like a bra but you can fasten it easier sort of folded down at your waist and then pull it up over the shoulders…

I'm a size 10 with FF cup and like this one. I don't like to spend too much on swimming costumes as the chlorine eats them. I don't think you necessarily need a bra sized, just one with enough room in the bust area.

I’m similar to you and bought a beautiful tankini last year from Bravissimo…

I also have a bikini bra from Bravissimo and then put a plain tankini over the top (have cut out inbuilt bra’s for this purpose!) so I can then have my proper fitting bikini bra underneath.

APatternGrammar · 04/02/2026 20:01

I get the ones from decathlon with built in support. I swim several times a week so wouldn’t buy anything more expensive.

I posted the matalan tankini up thread, but never had this issue. I do pool laps weekly in it and sea swim year round. Maybe my stomach stops it flapping about though? 😆

Lands End do DD+ swimwear, really good cverage/support (I am GG) and wash well!!

Daisy62 · 04/02/2026 20:55

Also 34FF, I find the Speedo Contour Eclipse works surprisingly well - not underwired or bra style, but has a firm shelf support. I like it so much I bought six, in case they stop making it. I also have Fantasie underwired bikinis for holidays, which work well.

FictionalCharacter · 04/02/2026 20:58

There is this one, which has the clip at the top where it would be easier to do up https://www.bravissimo.com/products/performance-sports-swimsuit-sw932/

I have the same problem, GG cup, find it hard to do up the bra clip, and don’t want a beachwear swim suit. I usually go for Speedo Endurance styles from Simply Swim, which really do last much longer in chlorine water. I always rinse them well in clean water at the pool and wash them in mild detergent as soon as I get home, and they last.

My problem is that standard swimsuits that are big enough in the bust are always way too big everywhere else. But some of the Speedo ones, like the Sculpture Watergem (which has no clip) were good - big enough in the bust without being horribly loose in the waist and hips.

Do you know what, until three years ago I was in exactly the same position as you. I then decided to have a breast reduction and lost 2.5 kg of tit.
Have you ever thought about it, please do it now? It's life changing and I thank God I did it every day.

Wow! Well done. Im pleased it worked

I haven’t ever considered it. Im sure if i lost a stone or two, that would sort it. I mean, i dont want unnecessary surgery. I just want someone to make a cossie with support that doesn’t cost nearly £100

i don’t know if it’ll be any good but Carys Whittaker on instagram is a similar shape by the sounds of it (as am I!) and she’s gearing up to do various swimwear ‘hauls’ and recommendations. May be worth a follow. Sorry, I can’t recommend anything myself as I’m on the hunt too… only mine needs to be from a ‘tall’ range as well. Like finding a unicorn!

Thundertoast · 04/02/2026 21:14

Just wanted to pop in and suggest Pour Moi as well, I havnt checked if there's any without the bra clip but maybe worth a look!

Madagascary · 04/02/2026 22:08

Yes, I remember the endless underwear Hunt. Now I just buy them from Tesco.
