Are these timeless?

Firstly, I love love love this so please don't shit on them if they're not your style. Would you say the patent leather are more timeless than the textured fabric? Also, are the lower heels less nice?

I think the 2 high heeled ones can be made timeless by swapping the branded ribbon for a plain black or white ribbon.

DaphneduM · 26/01/2026 10:32

I dislike the obvious branding, To me, timeless means more the quiet luxury aesthetic - high quality materials and design, minimal or no branding visible. I know Meghan is controversial on Mumsnet, but in my opinion her style is timeless and an example of quiet luxury.

If someone asks for an opinion on a public forum then they're going to get varying opinions. Sometimes all the opinions agree that the item is great etc, sometimes, as with these shoes, the opinions vary.

OP specifically asked whether the shoes were timeless, and lots of people have said they aren't. I'm a person who doesn't beat round the bush and explained why. I don't need to suck up to the OP or lie to her. If people think that's rude then I'm afraid I don't care. On anonymous forums people can and do respond in a direct way which they wouldn't in real life because of social niceties.

If she'd asked a different question, eg are the shoes fun, I bet she would have got full agreement in all responses, including me.

But she asked a specific question about timelessness, and one of the things about timelessness is that items are understated, not brash or flash. Those shoes are undeniably brash and flash, and that generally goes along with people who want other people to see how much money they spend ie conspicuous consumption.

If the shoes looked exactly the same but the ribbons said M&S instead of Dior, the OP would not entertain buying them, that I can guarantee. That to me proves she wants other people to know she can afford Dior.

Edited

OP also specifically asked that people didn't shit on them, so don't pretend you were acting in line with what the OP asked.

Anyway in answer to your question OP- I'd go with patent!

500daysofspring · 26/01/2026 10:46

I wouldn’t consider anything with such obvious branding timeless, however I wouldn’t focus too much on that if you really love them. Going against the grain, I much prefer the first pair linked out of the three.

chattychatchatty · 26/01/2026 11:08

The heel looks too ‘on trend’ IMO for these to be true classics and I could imagine the fabric strap becoming discoloured by eg. suncream, fake tan, rainwater! But they are all lovely shoes and if you like them and can afford them, why not?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/01/2026 11:38

Oopsylazy · 26/01/2026 08:54

Agree.

These type of threads regarding designer items always attract these snarky types though, who just can’t help being vile despite the OP asking for kindness bc she loves them.

As per the comment of that poster - I’m very used to having money, have nothing to prove to anyone and wear both branded and unbranded clothes, from anywhere and everywhere. Il happily buy from high street stores as well as Prada, Gucci etc. and also expensive unbranded items. The idea that you can only be secure in yourself if you only wear unbranded clothing is a very strange take. Maybe some people just wear things they like and enjoy and aren’t worrying about what other people think?

I often think the S&B board on here is full of people who don’t know the first thing about fashion and probably dress dull as ditchwater in RL.

I like them OP - I prefer the fabric ones though. I like the smaller heel too but I can’t do very high heels. The only thing that worries me would be the white ribbon getting dirty.

Yet those people who haven’t got £800 to spend on designer stuff, or who choose to spend their cash on something else instead, are equally within their rights to be in these threads and offer opinions. Style doesn’t have to mean fashion, and people are allowed to talk about clothes even if you don’t think they’re fashionable or even stylish. Most people don’t shop at the big fashion houses, and even those who do, don’t automatically achieve style, however much money they might spend.

Momrage · 26/01/2026 12:12

Are they timeless? No. They're fun, a bit 80s and kitsch, in a cute way. I don't think you'll wear them nearly as much as you think you will, but if you can afford to then why not but something you love.

Hayley1256 · 26/01/2026 12:19

I don't think they are timeless. I would buy some Louboutins instead

Dragonscaledaisy · 26/01/2026 13:59

SPQRomanus · 25/01/2026 19:43

Having very obvious branding like that is neither timeless, classic or elegant. It just shouts " look how much money I can spend on shoes and I'm not used to having money, I'm an insecure person so I've got to boast about it".
A similar style just all in black is much more timeless.

The OP didn't mention wanting to look classic or elegant so I'm not sure why you've even mentioned that. They like the three styles and want to choose between them. No need for spiteful comments. You've made your self look like a very bitter and nasty individual.

Pantalone · 26/01/2026 14:03

I like them and they make me smile. But I’m not sure about timeless- I think the branding is done quite wittily but I’d go for something subtler if you want shoes to have forever. These seem more
like the ones you’d get as your 18th pair of Dior heels not your first, if that makes sense.

Having said that, I can see that this approach is the one that has us all buying sensible navy blazers etc when we’d rather have orange and then wondering while we feel drab, so do just ignore if you love them.

EverythingIsComputer · 25/01/2026 19:25

I think the branding on the sling back is very now and will sadly look a bit tired in a year or two

I agree with this. I think a plain strap would be timeless, but the branding will date.

BabarEnFamille · 26/01/2026 14:17

I love the fabric ones, not as keen on patent and would go for lower heel as more wearable.
Whichever ones you get, enjoy them!

EdinaMonsoon · 26/01/2026 15:14

OP I saw these in store last week and was immediately taken with them too. They look far more elegant IRL. FWIW, I don't particularly care for the shape of the lower heel. I think they will date very quickly and definitely not classic. They also looked like they would be awkward to walk in, despite the low heel height. Either of the high heel versions are nice and I agree with someone upthread who suggested that you could swap out the ribbon for a plain colour to ring the changes but personally I don't see the issue with wearing them with the original ribbon. All that matters is that you love them and feel like you will get your money's worth from them :)

NovemberMorn · 26/01/2026 17:51

If everyone wore the clothes they loved, 'timeless' is unimportant.
I wear clothes I bought 30 years ago, to me, they are timeless...and often better made and classier than clothes you can buy today.
Obviously that's my opinion, and that's the one that counts.

I'm reconsidering what I said about the ribbons meaning the shoes can't be timeless.

As someone pointed out "timeless" isn't a synonym for "classic" and "elegant" [and tbh the last thread about" how to look polished " made me think" classic" and "elegant" can be synonyms for "boring" and "bland"]

ainsisoisje · 26/01/2026 18:21

They look lovely and black and white is fairly timeless non?

NutellaEllaElla · 26/01/2026 21:45

Thanks everyone, I think I’ve decided that I don’t care about the timeless thing. I like them because they’re fun. I can buy plain black patent leather shoes of fine quality for much cheaper elsewhere so to splash out on something so plain doesn’t make sense to me, and it wouldn’t delight me like these do.

I’d also remind everyone that you don’t know the circumstances of posters like me. These could be my 14th pair of designer shoes. Or my first. Could be a treat because I’m going through a health crisis, or a milestone birthday. Anyway, I’m sure I’ll never ask strangers on the internet for their opinion again because some can’t help but be negative for reasons known only to themselves. It did help me crystallise that I do not care though, so thanks for that 😁

Good for you OP!

I have a pair of completely impractical gold Gucci platforms which I love. If I’d posted them on here when I bought them years back theyd have been pulled to pieces I’m sure. But the style & beauty board on MN really isn’t the place to ask about these things considering the epitome of style seems to be shapeless sacks from Toast and the like (sorry Toast lovers!)

Still wearing the gold guccis several years later - “timeless” really isn’t that important to me! I’d much rather my friends be like “wow, I fucking LOVE your shoes”! 😂

Mumwithbaggage · 26/01/2026 22:29

The heels on the lower ones aren't timeless. The higher ones are more timeless but I remember the Gucci watches on straps. Not sure they'll age well with the DIOR ribbon. Beautiful shape to the shoes though.

EdinaMonsoon · 26/01/2026 23:13

@NutellaEllaElla I’m so happy for you that you’re trusting your heart. And as you articulated beautifully, we never know what people are going through, their circumstances etc. Sometimes you just want to share a little excitement and joy about a beautiful thing. Don’t let the negativity stop you from doing so again.

Funnily enough, like @Oopsylazy I also have a pair of gold Gucci shoes. It took me years to pluck up the courage to buy them for fear of what others might think or if I would actually get to wear them often enough to justify. But every time I wear them I feel bloody fabulous! They are bold and beautiful and I wear with everything. So buy the shoes, wear them with joy!

upstairsdownstairscardboardbox · 27/01/2026 07:24

They are very fun and you should get them OP. IMO almost nothing is timeless, things change and so do we. Enjoy them!

Mercurial123 · 27/01/2026 07:31

The shoes are lovely the Dior logo not so much.

Gremlings · 27/01/2026 08:58

Not with the ribbons showing the name.

Looks trashy.

Daftypants · 27/01/2026 12:40

I live a lifestyle where I never wear shoes like that and I don’t have any designer labels.
However. I do like the fabric lower heel one and hope you don’t get the ribbon dirty .
They’d look good with a pair of plain slim leg trousers or a LBD
