This. No one cares what you wear and for experienced travellers it’s all about comfort and utility. Flight socks are a must. Cuffed joggers and lots of layers.

I really don’t care what I look like!! Just want ideas that are comfortable and practical!!

Frequent flyer here, and although I prefer wide legs, I've had to give them up because of the toilet floor! 🤢 These are my new ones, I just pull them up a bit and they stay off the floor.

Long trousers dragging on the plane toilet floor is not good though 🤮

Easy enough to roll them up or tuck them into your socks for that, I’ll only be in there for a few moments. Plus, properly fitted straight/wide leg trousers shouldn’t really be dragging on the floor. Probably need a petite/short length if that’s happening.

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 21/01/2026 15:35

I've just bought some Forgotten Tribes harem trousers for my flight next week. But then read the comment about tucking my wide legs into my socks which I literally had never thought of! Doh! I'll still wear my thermal leggings underneath.

I do find it strange when people start saying ' nobody cares what you're wearing'. Well nobody ever cares in that case do they. And this is after all Style and Beauty. But hey, why bother with any of it?!I

Also loved the person who said there was piss on the toilet floor even in Premium. As if money stops men pissing on the floor.

The problem occurs when you sit down on the loo. My wide leg linen trousers were always getting away from me!

If I was flying alone then ok, but with two little kids I'm in and out the loo like a yoyo and not always taking the proper trouser precautions.

My last flight I had to go assist my DD who was throwing up in the loo (this was when we discovered she gets airsick despite being fine on any other form of transport). Due to the urgency I hadn't bothered to put my shoes on and realised that a)the floor was wet, of course it was and b)my trousers drag on the floor when not wearing shoes (i had spare socks in my hand luggage but not trousers).

I seem to manage it ok with a sports or jersey-type material but I can imagine linen would be a tricky fabric! I really hate wearing leggings for long periods on a flight, I start getting itchy. Just a weird personal thing I guess. I didn’t start doing long-hauls with my kids until they were 3 and fairly self sufficient. Luckily they have always been like a pair of camels anyway so loo visits are few and far between! 🙏

Enjoy Thailand! I have two pairs of these and I love them:

Neither are people's arses showing through leggings or other tight things when they bend over in the aisle. 😬

ASOS design have mix and match cotton trousers for £14 in a range of colours which are classed as pyjamas. I bought black and wore them to Thailand. Drawstring waist so never got too tight. I’ve worn them round the house a few times since and I’ve had a few compliments from visitors 😂 They’re also available in petite and tall ranges. The newer range are generously sized.
edited to addd they are classed as pyjamas.

@soupyspoon you do it like this-
Enter the toilet and lock the door.
Stand with your back very close to the toilet.
Pull the bottom of your trousers up to your knees.
Very important point-squeeze your knees together to stop the wide trousers falling down again.
Unzip or pull the trousers down to mid thigh while keeping your knees squeezed together.
Sit down.
Open your legs slightly while holding your trousers with one hand and pee.
Wipe.
Squeeze knees together to hold trousers while standing up.
Zip up.
Wash hands while squeezing knees.
Leave the toilet and let your trousers swish to your ankles.

This is EXACTLY how I do it too! Clearly am not the only clever clogs to have come up with this method 😍

I don't like cuffed joggers or trousers, much prefer wide-leg ones, and as PPs have said you really only go to the loo 1-3 times even on a long flight.

remotecontrolcrane · 22/01/2026 10:55

I think we can conclude that:

  • wide leg trousers are good for solo travellers who can easily take the proper precautions
  • don't wear wide leg trousers if traveling with children who need to be accompanied to the loo, because then you're in trouble.
  • Make sure leggings are a thick squat proof material
  • wide leg trousers may be worn with small children if they can be pulled up and stay up, even when sitting in the loo
  • don't forget to put your shoes on

👏

H&M ponte di Roma barrel leg trousers. Just make sure you have some long cashmere socks incase the plane air on is on strong.
i live a baggy trouser around my crotch on a plane. So much more comfy.

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 22/01/2026 11:01

We are flying to the Caribbean on Saturday. I'm.planning on wearing leggings with a loose cotton dress over the top, plus a loose sweatshirt Just before we land I can take off the leggings and sweatshirt and just be in the dress.

Don't wear anything that could drag on the loo floor.

ETA I don't care about pockets as I wear a small cross body bag for my phone and passport. I'm paranoid about my passport falling out of a pocket

chattychatchatty · 22/01/2026 12:20

Recommend wide leg ankle grazer soft denim or linen trousers with a T shirt and either a shirt or soft cardigan or jumper. Anything with an elasticated waist gives me a stomach ache (I’m a regular size); long trousers are a pain for toilet floors; I don’t like the constricting feeling of leggings.

I'm starting to think bicycle clips are the way to go.

Busybeemumm · 22/01/2026 19:12

For a long haul flight I recommend cuffed joggers. Anything wide leg will trail on the grim floor of the toilets 🙀

sequinpanties · 22/01/2026 20:52

You see a dress solves all this!

I wore these long haul to India, brilliant.

I don’t usually buy clothes from Amazon but these look good! Are they very long? I know they are cuffed but as a shortie I don’t want to look like MC Hammer!

Lol. Im 5'6 and the cuff wasn't really low. With free returns it's not a hassle if they don't fit. I was so pleasantly surprised and will definitely get in more colours

Denim4ever · 22/01/2026 22:25

I was recommended M and S jersey straight leg trousers. I bought some and they are good wfh trousers but the waistband is a deep and firm elasticated band which I ultimately decided was the last thing I'd wear on a long flight. I opted for very stretchy straight leg jeans with a decent zip and a mid rise waist and then undid the button for the flight.
