Formal wedding

I’m going to a very formal wedding in the Spring. It’s going to be church wedding with a do in a posh house afterwards- I am so out of my comfort zone!
I’m - short 5’2 with stubby legs and a bigger bust and tummy, chubby arms too.
I want to look really stylish, and young and cool, but have no idea what to wear!
I don’t mind spending some money (£250) on something fabulous I’ll wear again, but I really resent laying out this kind of money for polyester! Can I get something made of silk for this price?
help! Not sure what the weather will be doing either, so I have no idea where to start!

All of these dresses are silk, and gorgeous:

Would be easy to have shortened if you felt it necessary.

The things I like on there would not be suitable for a wedding! Love the very short long sleeved ones, but think it would be entirely inappropriate for figure and wedding!!

I have this and it is beautiful and very flattering:

I have dressed it up and worn it to a couple of weddings and received lots of compliments.

ETA: I know you said you want to look cool and young and stylish but it’s hard to find outfits in that category which are also formal.

Farm Rio dresses - not silk, but gorgeous. NOT polyester!

Gosh those are fun!

absolutely doesn’t have to be silk - I just don’t really like paying megabucks for synthetics!

Yes I don’t really know what I want. Probably something versatile is the best option.
How do you find quality of Lilysilk? That dress is lovely

The I think what I really want is a long sleeve something or a wide legged silky jumpsuit

I would say don’t wear a hat (I’m sure you weren’t going to) but a professional blow dry, or getting your normal haircut and finish on the day of the wedding, might be a good thing.

That’s the only item I have ever bought from them and the quality is excellent.

But your AI won’t be at the wedding, @johnyromt

When you say formal do you mean posh? Might sound nitpicky but they're not always completely equivalent!

Also, are you after something you can wear again? What do you normally wear to weddings? (Sorry, this is getting towards an obnoxious number of questions 😁)

Have a look at Kemi Telford. Some of the prints are quite bold (possibly too bold for a wedding) but her dresses are cut beautifully and flatter.

If you suit shirt dresses, some of these silk ones are on sale https://www.jasperconran.com/products/celia-silk-full-skirt-shirt-dress-with-belt?variant=44472922603754

The Fold have some crepe dresses in the sale that might work, they are quite formal https://thefoldlondon.com/product/verrone-sculpt-stretch-crepe-dress-dark-red/

This kind of thing from Rixo? https://rixolondon.com/products/brooke-bohemia-spot-deep-navy (its viscose)

Yes I see what you mean. Yeah they’re quite posh and it will be quite a traditional wedding i think. So maybe I mean traditional rather than formal
and it will be in a church too for the wedding bit

Sorry posted too soon. Yes I’d like to be able to wear it again, but equally I don’t go to many things like this.
That’s why I either want a really nice outfit that is good quality and will stand the test of time until I need it again, or perhaps something with a bit more flair or egdge that I can wear to other parties too

Definitely not farm Rio for a posh wedding. Structured clothing looks so much smarter, potentially with a looser skirt, the brand doesn’t matter but you need someone who does a petite fit.

Ifidget · 16/01/2026 19:31

Do you think I can wear linen in Spring?
In also worried about it creasing and not looking smart, but I also feel it will be easier to wear again.
I’m thinking a maxi, wrap linen dress

I am a similar height and build.

I find this shape of dress very flattering.
Ignore the colour and fabric - look at the shape.
