Longchamp - beach bag?

Plump82 · 12/01/2026 09:45

I bought myself a Longchamp bag in fawn that I plan to use as my carry on luggage for holidays. Thought it would also come in handy if we do day trips for suncream etc. Wondering if I can get away with using it as beach bag too? Has anyone done this and can report whether the sand marks it etc? Don't want it wrecked as I'm also planning on using it for my laptop when I have to go into the office.

I think they are far too expensive to use as a beach bag, unless very old.

BeaLola · 12/01/2026 10:36

I love my Le Pliage, but I wouldn't use as a beach bag - not sure re sand but I wouldn't want to spill suntan lotion on it (especially a lighter colour) and not if you expect to keep it pristine for work commute

turkeyboots · 12/01/2026 10:39

Mine has been on the beach a few times and is fine. Its a navy one though and suncream was in a plastic bag.
You might look a bit daft, and possible theft target, depending where you are going.

HarvestMouseandGoldenCups · 12/01/2026 12:57

Yeah OP… it will be nicked if you leave it on the beach to swim
etc

Ineffable23 · 12/01/2026 13:02

I usually pack a folding shopping bag or two (thin, lightweight, big) for if I want bits from the supermarket etc. Could you pack one of those; might be less tempting for thieves?

Plump82 · 12/01/2026 13:38

Luckily I never go swimming so no chance of it getting nicked but didn't even consider things like suncream spillages so I'm glad I asked on here! Decision made!!
@Ineffable23 that's actually what I'll do. And can definitely double up as a bag for the shops.

Agree with the post on a supermarket shopper. Particularly a nicer one - some of the specials from Waitrose have internal pockets.

Much more space for beach stuff and made to be wiped down.

BeaLola · 12/01/2026 18:43

If you want something a little smart and roomy but not ££ why not one of the Lulu Guiness totes they sell in Waitrose around £12 ish

I use a Anya Hindmarcb universal reusable bag that I bought for £10 -very sturdy , I was just looking to see if they still did them and it seems as though Boots are the new store selling them

I use mine for the beach, as a nappy bag, for shopping, work laptop - basically everything. They do get wrecked eventually, and get holes in the corners, but for the price point and how versatile they are I’m ok with that. Got suncream over a red one once but just bunged it in the washing machine and it came out fine…

user593 · 12/01/2026 19:16

I’ve used mine as a beach bag and it was fine but I never tested it with sunscreen spills.

BoxOfCats · 12/01/2026 19:20

my le pliage has been used on many a beach trip!

Apparently if you take them to a concession inside a big shop they will fix the corners for free. Haven’t tested this as my corners are all holding up very well!

Ah good to know might have to try that! I’ve also recently broken a zip though 😭

BeaLola · 12/01/2026 19:51

Yes re fixing - I did a thread on this - I've just got mine back FOC fixed -will post a pic idc

Before they go all fashionable, that’s what most women bought the big sized ones for! On many a French beach you’ll find older French women carrying one. It’s what I bought my really old for for as well, I wanted a beach bag that wouldn’t take up loads of space in my suitcase, so I could take a different bag as my carry on bag (always took a rucksack as carry on when the dcs were little so I had two free hands to grab children who were about to wander round the airport/touch stuff).

I suppose now they are not just a practical mum bag they need to be kept nice. But they do work well as a beach bag.

Chickydoo · 13/01/2026 03:13

I have a few Le Pilage bags.
newer ones for shopping/days out/hand luggage
older ones , gym bag, work bag
really old ones. Beach bag. They fold up well & so I tuck a spare in my suitcase.
i also have the backpack version and the large expandable version.
They last really well & damaged corners can be mended. Baby wipes are useful for removing marks on lighter colours.

I've seen the Waitrose shoppers but sadly don't live anywhere near a Waitrose! Haven't actually ever been in one come to think of it? Good to know they do repairs though.

There are loads on vinted.

There has been 4 different ones produced for Waitrose.

There is a silver one that you can buy from Lulu Guinness but it is £40, they did have £10 off them last weekend, not sure if it is still on offer.

BeaLola · 13/01/2026 13:21

I think you can normally get the LuluGuiness totes on John Lewis website if you are not near a Waitrose

Hoppinggreen · 13/01/2026 13:35

I have a few and would use one as a beach bag but I doubt it would look nice for work afterwards, especially in a light colour

EstherGreenwood63 · 13/01/2026 14:35

I have used them as beach bags. Waterproof, zipper, just tip the sand out. 👍🏼

ParisianLady · 13/01/2026 14:37

I’ve used mine as a beach bag. It still looks smart enough for work and all other uses (mine is white)

Ah never thought of that!! I'm in town on Saturday so can arrange click and collect. I saw some on vinted but they were up for silly prices.

I'm on holiday right now and have been using the largest size as a beach bag all week. Its brilliant. But make sure you change shoulders from time to time if you are walking the shoreline with it or you'll end up with two pale lines where the straps are like I have xD

I love longchamp le please for travel as several times I've mot put the bloody lid on a juice bottle right with these new fucking lids tied to the bottle bollocks. And it's poured into the bag ruining my stuff but- not the bag at least as it's wipe clean :)
