Any longchamp experts?

I met my Aunt on Tuesday. We exchanged gifts and she gave me this bag - I will upload photos. It’s a longchamp. This has thrown me as we usually just give a token gift of about £20 odd and have lunch together.

I do like this style of bag but I don’t like the colour so I want to exchange but I am questioning if it’s real or not as I know how much they cost in the shops and this level of spend is out of character. If this is real I will ask about exchanging. If it’s a fake one I will just leave it as I don’t was to embarrass her. She’s in her 80s.

This is how I unwrapped it. Any thoughts? It feels good quality but I haven’t unbuttoned it.

Any longchamp experts?

When I have bought them from John Lewis, they have not had the plastic on the handles or a tag, the care instructions were a little booklet so I do wonder if it is fake. I haven’t bought one online or from a Longchamp shop though. I think if you went to exchange it and were nice and polite they will tell you if it’s not real so can’t be exchanged. I hope it is real so you can get a colour you like as they are great bags.

Thank you. This is helpful. I am positive she will have bought it in store. Online shipping scares her.

Mine didn't have have plastic or tags. Is the leather real?

TeaRoseTallulah · 25/12/2025 10:17

If you Google orange Longchamp the orange is a lot darker.

countdowntonap · 25/12/2025 10:18

I’ve had several from Selfridges and direct from Longchamp and don’t recall the plastic on the handles.
They’re very popular with teenagers at the minute, with many girls at my local school carrying (what I assume to be) face Le Pliage bags.
I don’t think anyone could tell the difference though.

Thanks. The photo is throwing the colour slightly. It’s more of a peach colour.

I have a fake one from Malaysia and it had plastic on the handles.

Skinhero · 25/12/2025 10:32

I would say that’s fake, I’ve had a few genuine ones and they don’t (afaik) come with plastic on the straps or tags attached.

CalzoneOnLegs · 25/12/2025 10:33

They’re good for grocery shopping OP

HansHolbein · 25/12/2025 10:35

My daughter opened one from John Lewis this morning and it didn’t have plastic on the handles.

It’s still a nice bag tho, keep it for shopping.

twilightcafe · 25/12/2025 10:37

I have real and pretend Le Pliage bags. The real ones definitely did not have plastic wrapping.
The pretend one came from a car boot sale. I still like it - I use it for carrying my knitting projects around.

StrangewaysHereWeCome · 25/12/2025 10:59

I can't help with details on the bag itself as I'm not a Bag Person, although I do have a Le Pliage from Selfridges. IIRC there was no plastic wrapping other than the Longchamp logoed bag - I think tissue around the handles and hardware? Also I don't remember a tag on the bag. There was a small dark grey envelope containing the care instructions on a white card.

Agree that they are fab bags, I would absolutely keep a fake. And although it's not very Mumsnet to say so I am quite interested in how hard wearing a fake might be...

I have a fake which has been going a year and is doing quite well. Have a real one too and I can see the difference in how it wears but for the cost of the fake (£20) I’m happy with it

bumptybum · 25/12/2025 11:10

People are correct in saying they don’t come with plastic protection. But it is a very replicable bag. I’d just use it. It looks fine. No one would know. But separately is it unusual for her to buy a fake? Did she think it was real do you think? Would she even know what longchamp is?

BlueBlueCowWondering · 25/12/2025 16:34

Interesting as I bought both my dd this bag for Christmas! One direct from Longchamp, one from John Lewis. Neither has handle protectors and both seem to fold more neatly

But prob a good fake and I'd use it!

Newgirls · 25/12/2025 16:39

It’s nice in itself and would look good with a navy coat/jeans

Boohoolol · 25/12/2025 16:44

I have several real ones and the tag looks really familiar. I wouldn’t be able to tell it’s fake, so I’d just use it. I bloody love mine

Nofksleft2give · 25/12/2025 17:38

I got one this morning as a gift. It had a slip of tissue paper behind the leather flap which folds over at the top. No plastic on handles.

WhiskyandWater · 25/12/2025 18:02

I got DD one from Brown Thomas, no plastic on handles but did have the label on. Came in a plastic Longchamp bag too with tissue behind the press stud.

youegg · 25/12/2025 18:58

Plastic wrap on handles is a dead giveaway of a fake. I have the bag in the same colour and it’s a much darker orange. That one is too bright.
also is your aunt likely to get you a £150 bag?

youegg · 25/12/2025 19:01

Can you take a pic of the paper labels? Both sides? Also any labels inside the bag you can take a pic of?

Ineedanewsofa · 25/12/2025 19:06

What does it smell like? If it’s chemical/plastic smell it’s fake.
I bought my only Longchamp bag from Schipol airport in 2009 so am a bit out of the loop, they do last very well though as it’s still going strong!

hollyandribbon · 25/12/2025 19:11

I bought a new one recently from JL and it didn’t have plastic on the handles. Just came in a longchamp zip up dust type bag that was plastic. There was tissue paper behind the press stud and (I think) around the zipper pull.

Surely you could use it either way?

Myfridgeiscool · 25/12/2025 19:12

DD got one this morning. No plastic on the handles, one very small tag, not a plastic covered tag.
I'd guess yours is fake, I’d still use it though!

washingfrenzy · 26/12/2025 08:27

Thank you all for helping. I won’t ask to exchange. I’ll use it, especially when I see my Aunt.
