Help. I am seriously considering buying some Crocs...

I am off on holiday abroad in a month and am seriously thinking of buying a pair. I was thinking that if I bought a 'decent' pair I could travel in them then wear them on the beach and to breakfast etc and only have to take one other pair of shoes to wear in the evening.

Am I mad or is there a better alternative?

Nooo !

awayfromhome · 10/06/2008 13:22

crocs do flip flops, they are very comfy and don't look anything like the traditional crocs

ALMummy · 10/06/2008 14:00

I love crocs - very comfortable have two pairs one pair Cayman and one pair Mary Jane and I love em.

Can t do the thong between the toe thing, always get blisters.

MrsPuddleduck · 10/06/2008 14:50

Thanks for all of the replies.

The general consensus seems to be that Crocs are a no no - only the MaryJanes may be OK.

I do quite like the first sandals suggested by DirtySexyMummy and I will look for some pumps.

I have a pair of crocs for wearing around the house and stepping out into the garden. I used to think they were comfortable (although I wouldn't ever wear them out, not even to the shop across the road).

However, as far as comfort is concerned, they don't even come close to these (which I bought a little cheaper locally). They stay on my feet really well, make my feet look little (unlike clod-hopping crocs) and they have just the right size wedge.

I wouldn't want to get them wet though. If you want sporty, comfortable beach sandals, you could try Land's End

MrsPuddleduck · 10/06/2008 15:04

Thanks Hoppybird . The Landsend ones look really practical - they come in lots of colours too.

Help - Boden Online Sale - Anybody know when it will be? Need some goodies for hols but seem to think last year the sale started end June early July and if so might just hang on a couple of weeks - anybody else have inside information??

Chilimama · 11/06/2008 05:21

If you want to go somewhere in between a pump style shoe and a Croc the Prima crocs are a ballerina style, very slim looking unlike the regular cayman and are really comfy and ideal for chasing after children. like these

I don't like the clumpy look of regular crocs but love my prima and mary-janes they are soooooo comfy and keep your feet nice and cool. Btw I only buy them in black as IMO the coloured ones look a bit clown-like...apologies to anyone who has coloured ones

Thankyouandgoodnight · 11/06/2008 07:45

Another vote for the Havaianas - they are the up market end of rubber flip flops and last forever. I have a black pair that I wear with everything. They have a slight heel (well, slope up at the back) which makes them really comfy and the toe bit doesn't come out if someone steps on the back of them while you're walking .

Can I suggest these www.shoon.com/acatalog/Relax_Buckle_Mule_-_Nero.html. Bought a pair last year and they are great. Just about to buy them in another colour.

Kindersurprise · 11/06/2008 09:29

Can I suggest these 88www.crocs.eu/shop/step1/details.php?id=10119&lang=EN Crocs]] or these ones?

I have the Cleos and they are incredibly comfortable, I can wear them the whole day and I could never wear strappy sandals or flipflops all day. They are also ok for wearing with a skirt/shorts.

I also have the Caymann Crocs and they are indispensible beachwear. My DCs used then one time when we were at a beach bar, they were boats, trains, cars... They were occupied for ages. Photos on profile how Mum and I occupied ourselves.

Would not wear canvas shoes, they make my feet pong.

I've got a pair of crocs and they are soooo comfy (i'd so love them to be stylish too, but hey, I'm 7mths pregnant, style is not my main priority!)

Points for:

  1. Comfort
  2. Let your feet breathe, no sweat
  3. They do come with pattterns, I've got a floral style.
  4. Mary Janes look alright, better then originals, providing they are in a neutral/pastel colour
  5. Hard wearing
  6. Perfect beach wear

Points against:

  1. Everyone of all ages wears them.
  2. not exclusive
  3. Unstylish ( matter of opinion though)

I'll be taking a pair on holiday with me and anyone who thinks I look uncool can get stuffed. I'll be the one laughing when I come home with blister free feet (plus, I won't have to see those people again!)

anyone aware that crocs are involved in law suits in Japan for people getting injured on escalators with them!! my dh pointed this out when I bought a pair for my dc. personally ballet pumps / flip flops or birkenstocks I am afraid.

Kindersurprise · 11/06/2008 11:26

Barbara
Why are Crocs any more dangerous than other shoes?

RuthChan · 11/06/2008 12:14

Yes, it's true.
There have been a large number cases here in Japan where children wearing crocs have had their feet/toes caught in escalators. Some have lost toes or toe nails.
The plastic of the shoes is apparently easy to catch against the side of the escalator due to friction and the shoes can get pulled into the gaps between the steps/side and the steps/end of the escalator.
The Japanese government has apparently requested the company to investigate changing the plastic to one that is less prone to this.
In addition, all shops that sell crocs now display warnings and many escalators also have warning signs as you get on.

TREBUCHET · 11/06/2008 12:21

ffs what is with the obsession with how shit crocs are? They're just SHOES not a way of life. If you want a comfy pair of shoes get them, bollocks to what anybody else thinks.

Astrophe · 11/06/2008 12:36

Does anyone have a pair of the Crocs Athens (Flip flop style)? I tried some on in the shop in town the other day, and they were extremely comfy. Any experiences?

I have some Birkenstocks, which I think look much better than crocs of any sort, but personally I can't wear them if I am walking around all day. I can wear them pottering around the house etc, but not doing serious walking around town etc.

blousy · 11/06/2008 12:43

Crocs are an abomination. They just about pass on very little kids, but on grown women? Ugly, dumpy hideousities.
Can you tell I hate 'em

newgirl · 11/06/2008 13:26

crocs might be ok for the beach/pool but i think look best on kids not adults im afraid

please dont in the airport - it would be up there with carrying a straw donkey

miomaolalalalala · 11/06/2008 14:41

i think crocs are really cute on little ones (my dc are 1 and 3....they are really useful for independant little ones to get on and off but they always look really big and clumsy on adults. but what comes first, comfort or style?

Haylo · 11/06/2008 15:18

It has to be birkenstocks for me, just as comfy as the crocs but way more grown up and l'm turning up at teh airport in mine this week
