I'm looking for recommendations for a really warm coat for watching dd play football in the freezing mornings.

Does anyone recommend Dry Robes?

Thanks in advance

Didrikson! So cosy. I look forward to winter dog walks just so that I can wear it.

Another vote for Didrikson! I bought one for early morning football duties, and love it. It doesn’t ‘swoosh’ or sound crinkly like a lot of waterproof costs. And the ribbed cuff comes right down over your hand with a thumb hole so I can hold my travel coffee mug.

5 years on its still going strong.

https://euroskateshop.uk/100400204842.html?2=6115099. I have an Annox dry robe, it’s several years old now and is waterproof, windproof and very warm. A wear it with Muck Boots and have always stayed warm.

I have this for football and rugby matches! It’s waterproof, warm and long. Also lots of rooms for jumpers underneath. They also do it in a plain black with cream fleece lining. It’s a bargain!

My friend has one of those heated gilets she wears under her coat. She said it keeps her cosy while she watches her DD play footy.

Mercurial123 · 06/12/2025 19:43

I have a Tretorn coat, super warm and waterproof.

I have a Passanger Sherpa lined coat - love it , so warm and wear that every Sunday morning while I stand there pretending I understand any of the rules.

verybighouseinthecountry · 06/12/2025 19:58

Seasalt Janelle.

Rein coats are really good - warm & water proof. Massive hood which actually stays up when you want it to! Obviously they are designed for equestrian stuff but definitely built for the job!

Another vote for Rein coat, best coat I have ever had for weather extremes

TheBabyFatmoss · 06/12/2025 20:20

Oodie coat - actually too warm sometimes. Think they are half price at the moment

bookishmum1 · 06/12/2025 20:44

I have a tog 24 orton and it’s so warm and the hood hasn't blow down once in all the storms we’ve had recently, it’s the first coat I’ve ever had actually where the hood is big enough and stays up

Hdpr · 06/12/2025 21:27

Another vote for North Face Arctic Parka

27pilates · 06/12/2025 22:04

Tog 24 have long padded coats which are extremely warm. It’s a ski wear brand so they’re pretty warm coats.

cheesychipsontheoche · 06/12/2025 22:32

I have the shorter version of the superdry coat posted up thread. Long coats are no good if your kids are on grass as you get regularly covered in mud
I recommend hand warmers and a good hat. The extremities are where you feel it

As much as I loathe Dry Robe Wankers I would buy one for watching at the sidelines of a wet and cold footy match. Being warm, dry and toasty is the goal

Yup. I ordered a Regatta Orla Kiely in the Black Friday sales and it saved me this morning at DS's match.

It's not super thick but really I find you should get warmth from the layers underneath. I wear thermal leggings under my jeans and a roll neck thermal top.

If it's super cold but dry I wear this in green.

Can recommend a dryrobe. I'm out watching my daughter play Saturdays and referee on Sundays and my dryrobe has been invaluable. Long sleeve. There is nothing warmer and drier than a dryrobe and its lasted for years.

I would agree with a pp, just as important as a good jacket is a good pair of boots and I swear by Sorel insulated boots.

DuchessofStaffordshire · 06/12/2025 23:05

Another vote for Didrikson. Fabulous quality and much better suited for your purposes than a dry robe.

I had to return mine as it came to the floor on me! So I would advise anyone to check the measurements first.

Super Dry Everest Expedition, so so cosy 👌

Used to be a football mum . A long north face coat saved me . You can also have a heated gilet and or heated scarves ( power banks ) to help . I used a hot water bottle around my midriff which helped a lot . Heated insoles also help with boots

I have the full length landsend waterproof feather filled one. It is years old, I use nikwax to wash and reproof and it's as good as new.

This. I’m amazed at how warm and brilliant it is.

MakeOrBake · 07/12/2025 00:26

Fab coats recommended here - I have a long Superdry one I love.

My recommendation is a pair of ski pants to wear on your bottom half. I pop them over my jeans and stick on hiking boots. Makes all the difference to have warm legs - especially if there's a cold wind.

FelixRyark · 07/12/2025 00:39

Janelle Waterproof Raincoat from Seasalt, Cornwall. £180.00. Best purchase ever. Wore it every single day of the last three winters. Great for dog walks on very wet, very cold mountain terrain. Easy to clean.

would def work for footie sidelines.

Ruthietuthie · 07/12/2025 00:50

I wear this one for my son's ice hockey which is FREEZING. I have the navy one and, as well as being incredibly warm, it is also surprisingly flattering.
