If you wear lots of rings - how did you build up your collection?

I just treated myself to a new ring! I love the look of lots of rings and I really want to build up a collection. I only wear yellow gold though and prefer real 9ct so it’s going to take me some time!

I’m really interested to hear how other people build up their ring collection?

That's lovely, Op. My first gold ring, dh bought me on one of our early dates. Then I have my engagement ring (chosen for me, solitaire) and my wedding ring (chosen by me), a silver ring 'bought' by my ds (with dh's help!) when he was 5 and a lattice ring that belonged to my late mil. I have other rings I don't wear habitually - a ring db bought me for my 21st, a beautiful eternity ring and 2 silver twister rings from dh.

That sounds like a lovely collection @Bbq1 ! Do you wear the silver ones on the same hand as the gold?

Wedding and engagement from DH...but he doesn't understand jewelry so no more likely form that direction.

My Mum is a magpie like me and often buys me jewelry especially for big birthdays. So I have a beautiful Clogau gold and opal ring that was an 18th birthday present. A lovely ruby for my 21st. I have a couple of rings that were gifted or inherited from older relatives, one aquamarine and one amethyst. I bought myself a sapphire ring 18ct from ebay with slight damage for £85 last year. I also have a HUGE collection of inexpensive silver rings collected for years. I would like some more gold, I love vintage jewelry which is handy as second hand prices are better than new.

I love jewelry, cheap costume and expensive 18ct gold. The time my friends spend putting on makeup in the morning I spend going through my jewelry box and choosing what I will wear that day.

Today I am wearing my wedding and engagemet rings, a two tone and silver and rose gold twist I was given for my 40th and a matching set of beaded necklace, earrings and bracelet that I picked up for £10 at a craft fair!

I wear loads, altho I prefer silver toned jewellery, so easier to grab a silver ring here and there I guess.

On my left hand, I wear a platinum eternity ring for a wedding ring and my engagement ring is a fucking beautiful vintage trilogy diamond (old brilliant cut) platinum ring, then a multi ring silver ‘Russian ring’, 5 bands intertwined, that I bought at Badminton Horse Trials probably 15 years ago, that I’ve worn every day since on my thumb.

Right hand, I’ve got six rings on, two I’ve made at classes over the years, one I bought at a car boot, one I bought at a random little jewellers that was open late one night in NZ, one was a handmedown from my GM and one I found in the marquee the day after our wedding day. I asked and asked if anyone was missing it but no claims came forward so I’m wearing it to look after it… and have been for 7 years 😂

I’m a bit of a magpie and always after more to add to my collection. I’ve also got 11 ear piercings, a nose piercing and a collection of various bracelets I wear on a sort of rotation.

This post is prompting me to put some rings on! I save them for best, it's silly.

Just counted - I wear 13 every day. Need a new one to come away from ‘unlucky’ number 😆 Basically I need more fingers.

They just built up over many years. For example, my late gran’s wedding ring is loose, so I stopper it with a couple of stacking rings. All gold.
I buy them all myself, birthdays etc.

That Liberty ring is so gorgeous it makes me want to cry

I only wear gold coloured jewellery and feel really "wrong" in silver coloured, but when I got married I was still wearing white gold. So I haven't worn my wedding or engagement ring in quite a while which is awful really.

I have a few gold stacking rings from Monica Vinader, a gold coloured costume jewellery chunky thing from TK Maxx that I really like and is holding up well, and a 9ct gold ring in an unusual design with a smoky quartz stone that I got for my 18th birthday and hated at the time, but now absolutely love.

Also have loads of silver rings that I got when I was a lot younger that I'm keeping for my daughter who plans to claim all my shoes, bags and jewellery when she's a teenager.

Also that ring is gorgeous, I’ve been looking for a silver version of something along those lines for blinking ages! That style tends to be in gold though, they call them gypsy rings don’t they? According to a Romany friend of a friend, it’s because the stones ‘wander’ across the band, as gypsies do through the world, which I thought was quite beautiful. And of course stars have such meaning in that culture.

I know the sentiment on engagement/wedding rings but I felt naked not wearing mine. You could have them "dipped" in gold ?

I think it would wear off pretty quickly. I might have my diamond reset in yellow gold at some point.

My DD wears loads , she has beautiful hands , tiny wrists , long fingers and lovely nails .
Amongst other she has my Mums wedding ring ( beautiful high carat gold band ) and some that she acquired (Oh this is nice can I wear it?) and never returned
She does look after them to be fair .

I bought her a ring for Christmas (costume not gem) as she likes a selection , she'll run out of space !

That ring really is something...I've just been looking at the different stone options they have. If only Santa would oblige...

I have lots of rings, some worth thousands and some worth less than £5, the expensive ones I mostly inherited but I just buy the others when I spotted them and liked them - they range from a local jewelers that specialises in vintage to a street market in Spain
I used to never mix silver and gold but I am doing that now

I have 18k and 21k ones. One from my grandparents when I was very young, next from my parents, then 2 from DH, 1 I got myself. Then another silver one I got myself to support a cause I really liked.
All my jewellery is from abroad. Various countries.
Love it all. I don't have that many overall because I like to only have pieces I wear all the time and few specials.

I’ve seen it called a dome ring as well, I think because it’s so chunky

I unfortunately do not have beautiful hands, which is why I like a chunkier ring. Oh to be able to wear those lovely delicate ones I keep seeing!

I dont wear a lot of them at the same time but I do have quite a few rings mostly silver and 18ct gold diamond or gem stone rings. I love art deco / antique rings so I keep an eye on them all year round. I regularly check the sellers and shops I like and will buy one even if its not any special occasions because I have particular preferences and it is hard to come by.

Does it take a while to get used to wearing them? Not really. But I was wearing all the rings as a teen - silver ones.

Earlier this year I treated myself to a ring for a ‘naked’ finger, ie one I’d not had a ring on for decades, and yes it did feel odd for a week or so, now it’s normal.

i couldn’t get used to thumb rings, though.

I can’t really remember a time I didn’t wear loads honestly but I do know I’ve got pickier about the shape of rings, if that makes sense? Can’t deal with them catching on things!

I love the look of thumb rings, def think the feel would take some getting used to. Russian rings look lovely as thumb rings

My DH bought a beautiful solitaire from my friend (who’s an antique jeweller), after I told her I didn’t like the ring he’d bought me for our wedding anniversary (I can’t wear white gold) and she told him!! She admonished me for “keeping it for best” so I now wear it every day.
I wear 7 rings every day - on my left hand my wedding ring, my 25th anniversary solitaire and my sapphire full eternity ring plus a sapphire chunky ring (similar shape to OP’s) which I bought myself. On my right hand I wear my DGM’s wedding ring, the ring I was admonished for and my original engagement ring. I have 2 tanzanite solitaires which I wear when I wear my tanzanite necklace and several other rings which are now too small and I hope to gift to my DDiLs this Christmas.

I LOVE jewellery. I wear five rings every day (wedding, engagement, one as a graduation present and two for my DDs with each of their birthstones.) I also have some others in my collection that I've inherited or been given over the years.

I'm currently on the lookout for a thumb ring but like you OP I prefer yellow gold and I haven't yet found the right piece.

In terms of where I buy them I prefer second hand and vintage as you can get some proper pieces for an amazing price.

My lifelong friend took up ring making as a hobby. She made me this for my 40th, and its never left my hand. My other thumb ring was given to me by my sister.....the thoughts being, they have to be ripped off painfully to be taken, but the thumbs are the gateway. In the event of an attack these 2 rings will survive.
