I usually wear eyeliner on my water line but now I have dry eyes. What way can I do my makeup without it looking like I have pale eyes.
Putting my big girl pants on and posting pics of with and without makeup. Be gentle please 🙏 I feel so vulnerable without my eyeliner 😢

You have lovely eyes and they look much bigger without the eyeliner. Although I have no make up advice at all, sorry!

StruggleFlourish · 01/12/2025 17:54

I don't wear makeup on or near my eyes So I don't have any practical makeup advice to give you but I can tell you that your eyes are beautiful and they actually look a lot better without the eyeliner. In my humble opinion anyway.

chocolateball · 01/12/2025 17:58

I have dry eyes and couldn’t keep eyeliner on so I wear it under my eyelashes and and blend in and it does actually look ok.

NebulousSadTimes · 01/12/2025 18:03

You have lovely eyes @StressyMcStressFace , I'd sell my granny for your eyelids.

I wear powder eyeshadow applied with a very thin brush under my lower lashes. I used to wet the shadow before applying but found that a bit much as I aged so just use it dry now.

SquirrelFan · 01/12/2025 18:03

I'm no expert but I thought it was accepted now that waterline eyeliner makes eyes look smaller and is a bit dated. You could take this opportunity to update your style, use a very dark brown smudgy liner mostly on top, as close to the lashes as possible, smudging it between the lashes, and a bit below. You have beautiful eyes!

I agree.
are you still ok with mascara?

I do the same! Just get some dark brown eye shadow on a thin brush and dab it on your eyelash line. A lot less harsh than an eyeliner.

Use Bobbi Brown gel liner with their ultra fine eye liner brush. Use the side bit and brush a very small amount on the top lid and under your eyelashes for the bottom, you can clean up with a cotton bud if you need to. It's the only one that doesn't smudge or transfer. Make sure you use the end of the brush handle to take a bit out, put it on the back of your hand (like a palette!) and use the brush to apply, if not and you paint from the pot it will dry out very quickly. Or you could use the Kat Von D one and apply under the lashes for the bottom of you prefer a more precise liquid liner.

You've genuinely all made me cry! Thank you all for the lovely compliments 😊. Its going to be such a big change for me. Sorry to sound so dramatic but honestly Claudia Winkleman is my eye makeup hero and I am fully aware its dated but hey the 80s was my era what can I say 😁. Definitely will be experimenting with eyeliner/ eyeshadow under my lower lashes.

Mascara not a problem. Just the eyeliner on the water line

My left eye watered dreadfully due to dry eye, it was awful. Tried all the usual treatments (warm compress, drops), none worked. I ended up tearing my cornea as it stuck to my eyelid during the night, and following hospital treatment was prescribed gels. Game changer! I wouldn’t say it’s cured but it’s much much better. I use it before bed, and when I get up.

Xailin Gel - Dry Eye Lubricant

you can order from Amazon.

bellocchild · 01/12/2025 18:20

I've got dry eyes and use eyeliner with no problems. I use carbomer gel or Viscotears to keep my eyes lubricated.

Abracadabra12345 · 01/12/2025 18:30

Like others, I use dark brown eyeshadow applied with a special, thin brush as a pp described. I’d give a lot to have your stunning eyes! And contrary to what others say, they do look better with makeup because otherwise why bother, and I love the Claudia Winkleman look! But made up or not, you have stunning eyes

StressyMcStressFace · 01/12/2025 18:36

@Herecomesthehotflusheri have got the hot compress, drops, night gels and a strict regime to follow so hopefully that will help. Torn cornea sounds absolutely awful you poor thing 😞. Some great advice here. Thanks everyone ☺️ thank you for your honesty @Abracadabra12345!

Following surgery didn't bother with makeup for four weeks. I've started wearing it again and am having issues with gritty eyes. I'll have to get some gel

ThisMustBeMyDream · 01/12/2025 18:43

Have you been told you can't wear it? Or is it the fact it's running?

bellocchild · 01/12/2025 18:53

Remember to buy waterproof mascara and eyeliner - if your eyes water.

MowingMachine · 01/12/2025 18:55

Just make up your eyes without the liner on the water line. It doesn't have to be all or nothing!

StressyMcStressFace · 01/12/2025 18:57

@ThisMustBeMyDreamthe optician told me its blocking the ducts and causing the dry eyes. Well that and probably menopause 🙄

A little angled brush and some eyeshadow will look great, start really soft and then you can build up a more dramatic look for different occasions. You have lovely eyes! I think brown eyeshadow would make the colour pop.

That's interesting. So I've had really watery eyes in the last year. I went to my optician for my contact lens check up and he said I had dry eyes and this was what was causing the tears as they weren't oily enough to stay in the eye. He recommended heat mask and hycosan at night time. This has worked at treat. He didn't mention my waterline Eyeliner as the issue at all. However I've been wearing it for just over a year. So it's entirely possible the two are correlated. I actually just thought it was my allergies and was taking fexofenadine daily. Some days the tears streamed. Some days they weren't troublesome. I've noticed in the 2 weeks since using the hycosan night that it's a huge improvement.
Anyway, what I wanted to say was - my friend had hers tattooed on. It looks pretty good. She had it done over 15 years ago and hasn't faded as you'd expect. Just something to consider.
I'm now off to search waterline Eyeliner issues!

Sandcaaarstle · 01/12/2025 19:06

Have you thought about having a lash tint? Makes a huge difference and you can almost get away with no makeup at all.

I just use a bit of dark grey eyeliner in my lash line (when I cba).

66babe · 01/12/2025 19:06

You have beautiful eyes . Try just some mascara … or … a brown eyeliner under your lash line and smudged a wee bit .. a MUA in Mac told me once I was too old for black eyeliner , I was 48 at the time lol

ThisMustBeMyDream · 01/12/2025 19:08

Bloody hell, my googling tells me that yeah, this is probably why I've had such a problem! Frustrating as I love the look on my lower lashes. I'm going to have to do the upper and put plenty of mascara on the lower perhaps? Upper doesn't seem to be such a problem I think.
