I'm pleased with today's shampoo - yes a conditioner would have been nice as well, but as a long term Beauty Drop/ Liberty Advent Calendar devotee I was pleased it wasn't from one of the usual suspects brand wise!

I didn't notice any tingly from the lip stain, but I'm about to go out and will put some more on then so will be watching for it!

Howmanyroses · 06/12/2025 13:21

AndeanFlamingo · 06/12/2025 11:25

I never tried the lipstick as I knew the shade wouldn't work for me but I'm also sensitive to plumping ingredients (shame as I have very thin lips) and I would have been really unimpressed to have tried this without realising.

I just checked the blurb for this one on the Trish McEvoy website and it doesn't say anything about a plumping effect but nearly everyone here has commented on the tingle. Here are the ingredients if they mean anything to anyone:

Pentaerythrityl Tetraisostearate, Dipentaerythrityl Hexahydroxystearate/Hexastearate/Hexarosinate, Isopropyl Palmitate, Octyldodecanol, Polybutene, Polyethylene, Dimethicone, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Phenyl Trimethicone, Microcrystalline Wax, Isononyl Isononanoate, Jojoba esters, Polyglyceryl-3 Behenate, Silica Dimethyl Silyate, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Wax, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-di-t-butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Acacia decurrens flower wax, Polyglycerin-3, Tocopherols, May Contain +/-, Red 33 Lake CI 17200, Iron Oxides CI 77492, CI 77499

I've just asked ChatGPT and here is the conclusion based on the ingredients: Most likely culprits
1. Colorants (Red 33 Lake CI 17200, Iron Oxides CI 77492, CI 77499)

  • Red dyes—especially Red 33 (CI 17200) and other synthetic reds—are among the most common causes of allergic reactions in lip products.
  • They can cause swelling, tingling, burning, or hives around the mouth.
2. Jojoba Esters / Plant Waxes
  • Jojoba esters, candelilla wax, acacia flower wax, and sunflower seed wax are natural ingredients that some people react to, especially if they have pollen/plant sensitivities.
  • Reactions may include lip swelling or tingling.
3. Tocopherols (Vitamin E)
  • Surprisingly, Vitamin E allergies do occur, especially with lip products.
  • Can cause swelling, redness, or itching.
TragicMuse · 06/12/2025 13:41

Oh my face does not like vitamin E at all! Or Rose. I had a facial years ago and instantly started itching to one thing which is how I discovered. I tend to try and steer clear of it in face creams, hadn’t thought of lipsticks tbh.

carbonelthecat · 06/12/2025 13:44

No tingling here, so sounds like some people might be more reactive to one of the ingredients rather than a deliberate plumping style intention.

IlovePond · 06/12/2025 13:46

Thanks @Howmanyroses - very useful to know.

Btw: My mouth and throat still feel terrible - if you have experienced any reaction at all to this product, or if you have a history of allergies, I suggest dumping it. Reactions often get worse with re-exposure.

AndeanFlamingo · 06/12/2025 15:01

It seems really odd that so many people are reacting to something in this.

IlovePond · 06/12/2025 15:08

Re: The ghastly lipstick

I have just had a very poor response from Liberty CS following my email to them today - ‘tough’ just about summed up their response.

I will reply to them to outline my disappointment with their attitude when I am feeling less angry.

AndeanFlamingo · 06/12/2025 15:15

Wow @IlovePond Liberty CS is usually so good too.

Hicupping · 06/12/2025 15:19

I've been using the shampoo and liked it enough that I bought a different davines off ebay. It's just arrived this morning, not tried yet. Weird quote on front. Seller has some good prices on stuff so I've now got enough shampoo for rest of my life I think. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/256880897050

IlovePond · 06/12/2025 15:20

Indeed @AndeanFlamingo 🙀

Anyway, I don’t want to bring down the thread anymore than perhaps I already have, so will try to focus on the lovely things elsewhere!

DH looked a bit bemused when I handed over the shampoo this morning. It was last seen on the kitchen sink, so I think he thinks it’s a weird kind of hand soap!

shinny · 06/12/2025 15:24

@IlovePond you poor thing re lipstick! I certainly didn’t realise it had plumping in it although it did taste a bit minty

I was away for first 3 days of the thread and then couldn’t find you so have just caught up.

I have used the cleanser (nice) and serum (a tad drying) and applied Vrao which I like and the dark lipstick which has come up dark on me and I love it. DH has said he’ll have today’s offering as will suit him.

Loving the thread so far as it’s made me open and use everything which I never do!

IlovePond · 06/12/2025 15:31

Thanks @shinny. I have the cleanser ready to go! Looking forward to it.

I wore the Zephrine again yesterday and like it. I don’t find it that long-lasting but it’s nice.

H3lloMums · 06/12/2025 16:15

I wonder if some of us have a batch with peppermint oil and they might have changed the ingredients in as I saw an old review also that referred to it as minty smelling and I also asked chatgpt and it said that some of the colours do. Would be good to see the packaging ingredients as they always change them online and it came without a box. I had a massive reaction to la Roche Toleraine eye cream after being brilliant for years and never got straight answer about what changed and completely fobbed off. Anyway, just wanted to agree with @shinny this thread is making me open and try rather than hoard for best so thanks for that! 🤩

Iwishihadarivericouldskateawayon · 06/12/2025 16:29

I just tried lipstick and mine also caused tingling. I actually feel like my tongue has swollen

IlovePond · 06/12/2025 16:45

I feel for you @Iwishihadarivericouldskateawayon My tongue is still hurting now.

Do you have any Piriton to hand?

I am wondering if some of us have a different batch as, whilst I understand that not everyone is allergic to lip plumper/mint additives in lipstick, it’s odd that some people can’t taste the mint or feel the tingle at all!

I suggest that all of us who have experienced an adverse reaction write to CS. I will be writing again tomorrow.

OP posts:
carbonelthecat · 06/12/2025 17:05

@IlovePond that could be the case as I'm not getting mint at all with mine!

LancreWowhawk · 06/12/2025 17:09

Question about Day 3’s serum. Today, when I used it, my skin felt sticky for ages afterwards, and then it seemed to peel/pill off on my cheeks, in little white lumps. I did the same as usually with cleansing and then spf moisturiser afterwards.

What did I do wrong? Did I just not let it sink in long enough this time? Should I have been more assertive with running it in? Could it be that I used a different cleanser today?

Any suggestions would be gratefully received!

I don't know why I'm looking into this as it was only mild tingling on me and I've just put peppermint balm on my feet so now hands tingling 🤣 but I guess I just want to feel not going mad! Seen a couple tik toks from 2022 mention mint and this link shows ingredient list has peppermint oil in! So maybe this is an old or American batch! https://bluemercury.com/products/trish-mcevoy-lip-color?variant=32360839512139

No lip tingling with mine, but the slight colour drains me. Going to use it as a topper with a lipstick. Shampoo is fine, I like the brand. Not exciting but I did research before buying and feel ok with the odd day not knocking my socks off.

IlovePond · 06/12/2025 17:40

That might also explain why my lipstick was a dark purple on me, but a pretty pink on others!

If you scan the qr code in the 1st box does it give you product ingredients etc ? I'm not at home so unable to check

What's your batch code? Mine is 69171 - maybe someone without tingling/mint smell can share theirs

OvaHere · 06/12/2025 18:03

I didn't get the Liberty AC but this is all very interesting re the TM lipstick.

Sounds like some of the lipsticks supplied could be a previous formulation or made originally for the US market. Or they could all be the same formulation but some people have no sensitivity to peppermint oil to the point they don't notice it at all.

Quite possibly Liberty themselves have no awareness of the brand supplying variations (if that's the case here). Although arguably they should be very informed about exactly what is going in a BAC they are selling under their branding.

IlovePond · 06/12/2025 18:23

@H3lloMums - where did you find the batch code? I haven’t been scanning the QR code as I don’t use QR scanners after a friend had hers hacked.

Thanks
