General “Waifs and Strays” Beauty Advent Calendar opening thread.

As in previous years, this a thread for those opening Beauty Advent Calendars not covered by specific calendar opening threads - though happy for those to be shared here too. Also looking forward to hearing about the “Frankenstein” curations.

Carrying on the tradition from previous years, it will also be fun to hear about other calendar openings - Degusta, jam, cheese anyone?

I know there are mixed feelings on this, but many of us would really appreciate it if spoilers are not posted before 7am on the relevant day, though if the consensus is this is too late we could
make it from midnight on the day? Please also avoid dropping hints or spoilers about future contents if you have opened the calendar in advance.

Posting pictures of contents is also always much appreciated.

I’ll be opening the Selfrdiges and Jo Loves calendars this year. Really looking forward to tomorrow.

I would use the mini wooden spoon in a salt cellar, I have two.

That's a good idea. I have a lovely wooden box with a sliding lid that I use for salt.

Elemis cleansing balm in boots this morning. Big fan of elemis, although I'd have preferred the rose one!

Today’s DIY was an M&S Formula sleep oil that I have NO recollection of purchasing!

Disappointed with the Peppermint teabag today as it doesn’t agree with me and with yet another pack of tiny biscuits in the CC calendar.

The Rituals soap stuff isn’t a favourite - I find it hard to wash with - it just clumps and doesn’t lather, but I will use it. (My favourite Rituals scent is the Ritual of Jing.)

Just about to eat the Wispa - I think that’s the first one I have had in this a/c.

Double door with StyleKorean today - Biodance Collagen Mask to Foam Cleanser 150ml (huge!) and Heveblue Salmon Caring Centella Toner PDRN 200ml (also huge!). Just hoping the toner doesn't smell of fish!

LF Fragrance is Olympea by Paco Rabanne. I’ve never tried this before..quite like it.
JL is a Clinique eye cream, love Clinique so I’m very pleased with this.

Gruum - Day 12 - Facial Seum. Looks good, I've got two different serums on the go at the moment so I'll try this when one runs out.

Nivea day 12 is the rich nourishing body lotion in a cute small but not tiny bottle 🥰

Day 12 Jo Loves is Mango Thai Lime votive. I really like this, I'll be saving it for warmer weather though... I'd like to try this scent in the perfume too.

ASOS is a Clomana Marshmallow Sponge. Nice - very squidgy.

Sylvan Glow is a Round Lab 1025 Dokdo Cleanser. 150ml - a benefit of this beautiful calendar is that you don’t get teeny, tiny ridiculous sizes.

I have one of these. I nearly bought ASOS just for the sponge before deciding that was ridiculous reasoning so bought one separately. I find it eats foundation though so I apply with a brush or fingers first then use the sponge to pat in rather than applying with sponge directly iyswim.

Made it to the weekend.

Day 13:

Selfridges is a Lashify wand, bond and eyelashes. I have never worn false eyelashes, so assumed this was a DoD but some googling suggests these are much more subtle than normal falsies but can be tricky to apply. In two minds as to whether to give them a go or just sell the kit.

Jo Loves is a Jo by Jo Loves paintbrush. This is a scent I’m familiar with and like - a grapefruit citrus - and one I will save for the summer.

Forgot to report on cheeses:

As @CordeliaNaismithVorkosigan noted, day 11 was a small Schnebelhorn, which was delicious. Day 12 was a biggish block of Stilton, fortunately dated 29.12 so am keeping for Xmas as the Shropshire blue from a few days ago is still going (I am the only one in the family who eats blue cheeses). The final box of 8 also arrived yesterday. This cheese calendar has been a such a treat.

Boots Premium - NARS light reflecting primer. This was one of the items I was most looking forward to opening.

This is one of my staple cleansers - love it for clean skin!

In my messed about JL today is Pai face oil and Sculpted by Aimee beauty base primer with a golden something ….. shimmer? I shall give it a shot 😄

Day 13 Jo Loves is a fragrance paintbrush in Jo. Unfortunately I don't like this scent and I think it's the third item in this scent we've had in the calendar!

Rituals is the Jing spray - pleased with this as it’s my favourite.

I am congratulating myself on my DIY double door today - a good effort on my part: Clinique eye massage rollerball and a CT wand.

Cheese today and a nice tea bag too.

I’m a bit speechless with today’s Korres box - a roll of half a dozen stickers, presumably to stick on the fairly flimsy advent calendar box 😳😳😳

L’aP was better with 10ml of Un Air de Bretagne. F&M was a dark red nail varnish which I will never wear.

I bought the Selfridges fragrance wardrobe when it was released and put it away for my birthday last week. I tried the Clive Christian Town and Country fragrance last night and I think it’s the most wonderful smell I’ve ever come across. I thought I would try to pick up another one on Vinted and was shocked at how much people are selling it for - until I looked at the Selfridges website where it’s £400 for a 50ml bottle! 😮😮😮
