Keep or return dress - dabs eyes

I bought a dress. The reviews say it can be worn in a few different ways, and they always look more fancy in the pictures. Also, it’s not a very fancy shop.

Anyway, got it home and tried it on. It fits beautifully (could do with an extra 1cm round torso but it’s fine) and it is stunning. However, it’s fancier than I expected and I’m not going anywhere I can really wear it. I’ve a few Christmas things but they’re mainly pub etc. it’s also just a Christmas dress. It’s beautiful green velvet (I bought it before Princess Kate worn hers ;) I’ve a “do” in Feb, but will green velvet work post Christmas?

Keep, or return. I fear it may just languish in my wardrobe.

definitely keep, the cut and colour are stunning

hby9628 · 21/11/2025 13:48

It’s stunning. Could you wear it on Christmas Day? I bet you could wear that loads.

SunandRain101 · 21/11/2025 14:01

It's absolutely stunning and can be worn anywhere...pub too. You will feel more sexy and (cant find the right word-but - powerful)
The clothes we wear also boost our self-esteem, confidence etc.
This year or next year...go for it

@TheApocalypticiansApprentice

A sensible but less glam alternative, I agree but what's with those tights the model's wearing?!!! A hint of the Nora Batty (showing my age) I think.

Needaglowup · 21/11/2025 14:22

You can wear that everywhere over winter , keep it

MrsChrimbo · 21/11/2025 14:22

Hmmm, I’m leaning on keeping it now.

When I say it’s too fancy, I’m talking more about my life style. I have a few Christmas events, but they others usually turn up in jeans and jumpers. I wish they wouldn’t!!

I love dresses in winter and love to wear them. I want to be smarter. I want to look nicer because I can scrub up really well when I make a bit of effort.

Obviously if I was going to a wedding, or a ball, I’d go much fancier than this. My catwalk is restaurant, pub, concert hall, dog walk, gym, work or supermarket.

It’s lovely. Keep it. It isn’t too fancy at all.

bugalugs45 · 21/11/2025 14:46

Clicked on the link and it’s out of stock , which tells me it was popular , I like it and don’t think it will date , agree you could dress it down with chunky boots , it’s lovely , I’d keep it !

Juliannaz · 21/11/2025 14:50

I love it

MrsChrimbo · 21/11/2025 15:06

I better keep it then if it’s out of stock! Maybe everyone has gone made for green velvet in the last few days. It’s not even on offer in Black Friday.

My colouring is slightly darker than the model, and about the same length hair, but I don’t have the golden tan. I generally suit emerald, khaki and forest greens which is why I bought it. Some colours look terrible on me such as pastels or light greys and I tend to suit deeper colours.

😍 I’d wear that to the pub!

LucyLoo1972 · 21/11/2025 16:13

its gorgeous! so lovely. and its the fanciest shop in my book!

hidinginthebathroomagain · 21/11/2025 16:21

Keep it. Beautiful

Silverbirchleaf · 21/11/2025 16:25

That’s a lovely dress and you could wear it for lots of- meals out, smart pub evenings, theatre trips etc. I don’t think it’s a Christmas-only dress either. Wear it and enjoy!

Growlybear83 · 21/11/2025 16:29

I think it’s a beautiful dress and is something that you could wear to all sorts of events. I think you will regret it if you send it back

In my girls friendship group l am often the only one in a dress, but that doesn’t bother me or them. I just do me ❤️.

My adult Dd loves a dress and she wears whatever she wants regardless of whatever anyone's wearing. So she would probably wear the op dress to the pub.

Hotpants123 · 21/11/2025 16:51

It is out of stock so don't send it back (unless it is a size 14),,,,,,

MayaPinion · 21/11/2025 16:55

That’s lovely and can be dressed up or down - perfect for the pub with some flat brown knee boots and a suede or wool jacket and a chunky scarf, or with a cashmere cardigan for dinner with a friend, or with heels and a wrap for a wedding or christening. I think you’d get your wear out of it easily. It’s also a classic style so it’ll work for years. If you love it keep it and wear the shit out of it.

Loubelou71 · 21/11/2025 17:12

Gorgeous and it's out of stock... keep it and own it.

Thiswontgetthebabybathed · 21/11/2025 18:01

Definitely a keeper, it's beautiful 😍
I would've loved it for my sons wedding

PoliteRaven · 21/11/2025 18:02

My only reservation would be you said it could do with being a cm bigger.... I always wear things a bit looser over tighter. If I'd spent that much on a dress I'd want it to fit perfectly. OTOH if it's in demand you could wear it once and sell it on?

Flannelfeet · 21/11/2025 18:04

Oooohhhh I love that 😍. If you dont want it post it to me, 😂

Brenda34 · 21/11/2025 18:04

Change the buttons and keep it.

Redheadedstepchild · 21/11/2025 19:41

Keep it.
