And with what top?

Got a weekend away with DH. Want a nice relaxed smartish outfit for dinner in hotel.
Want to wear these shorts with black tights and these boots. Does this work? And what top?
Brain has given up on being stylish. I may be really off with this!

Those look like camping shorts to me. I don't think they fit with the smart boots. Do you have a short skirt or some smarter shorts?

Whentostarthrt · 16/11/2025 16:39

The boots are lovely but I’m not sure they go with the shorts (which are a bit summery for this time of year and also the heavy boots). I saw the images and thought that was more an outfit for Glastonbury rather than a nice dinner (sorry 🙈). What about a mini skirt instead?

Bobbybobbins · 16/11/2025 16:40

I agree with previous posts - short smarter skirt would be better.

BrownGlasses · 16/11/2025 16:40

I can’t get my head round that outfit at all, I’m afraid

JDM625 · 16/11/2025 16:41

Which country are you going to? The shorts and boots combo could be a safari outfit. Are you wearing a pith hat also? Sorry, IMO they don't go together. Have you tried the look on?

90yomakeuproom · 16/11/2025 16:41

A skirt of the same colour would look lovely. I just got a similar one from tesco

TroubledBloodyMary · 16/11/2025 16:41

Hmm … You want velvet or suede shorts to achieve the look you’re after.

BarbarasRhabarberba · 16/11/2025 16:42

Totally the wrong kind of shorts. You need knee length either in baggy dark denim or tailored

Blarn · 16/11/2025 16:42

Tweedy looking mini skirt and tights with those books would work. Agree with PP, boots and those shorts just says Glasto in Winter.

Thebigonesgetaway · 16/11/2025 16:44

Yeah that’s not smart ish, sorry op. The shorts are really casual camping type shorts. Boots are fine, but I’d wear something other than those shorts. They are very casual.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/11/2025 16:53

No, no and thrice no. I'm sorry, but is this a joke?

Flowersforyourchocolateprettyplease · 16/11/2025 16:59

Nice outfit linked above. Definitely not the shorts you posted.

Qualityroses · 16/11/2025 17:02

Those shorts don't scream smart dinner in a hotel to me. Some smart shorts would look lovely with those boots.

Prelim · 16/11/2025 17:04

It reminds me of when I had to be Peter Pan in a school play with no costume budget. It’s definitely a look, not one I would wish to repeat, but depends where the hotel is I guess!

Hoppinggreen · 16/11/2025 17:08

nope, the shorts don't work at all

DramaAlpaca · 16/11/2025 17:11

Nope, not those shorts. Much too casual. And not black tights with those brown boots either, I don't think.

momager22 · 16/11/2025 17:13

Absolutely not. You’d need a skirt

CissOff · 16/11/2025 17:14

Absolutely not. My mum has those shirts for holiday! They are the wrong colour, shape, style length…everything, for them to be worn in the way you’re suggesting.

The Nobody’s Child shorts are beautiful and what you should be aiming for.

Kitsmummy · 16/11/2025 17:14

Is it a Jumamji themed hotel? You should be fine

ActYourAge · 16/11/2025 17:14

Shorts with boots? No Shorts for dinner at a hotel? No.

manicpixieschemegirl · 16/11/2025 17:14

Absolutely not.

Comment of the day 🤭 week even!

Baanaanaas · 16/11/2025 17:16

Those shorts are not for a smart hotel dinner.

CissOff · 16/11/2025 17:19

Cargo straps have no place in a smart hotel restaurant. Even the model is wearing a ribbed vest and a pair of plimsoles
