Got a weekend away with DH. Want a nice relaxed smartish outfit for dinner in hotel.
Want to wear these shorts with black tights and these boots. Does this work? And what top?
Brain has given up on being stylish. I may be really off with this!

Quite aside from how it looks, it would feel awful - all bunched up around the groin. But then I’m like that about tights under trousers too!

I like the shorts. I sort of like the boots. Together they’d look a little IACGMOOH.

I don’t mind a pair of shorts with tights, although I did get a lot of “They’re behind you” from DSIS. I’d go with a burgundy cord skirt.

You need a smarter pair of shorts to pull off that look but tbh I think shorts, tights and boots will always look shit.

I just posted several times on the "Nobody cares" thread, saying that I never notice what people are wearing, but I have to say if I was in a smart dinner place I'd definitely notice this combo. If you are a tall, waif, model type you could probably pull it off well, otherwise, no.

OP.. that outfit is giving safari jungle vibes. Personally, I think it's quite difficult to pull off a shorts & boots combo (unless you're super skinny). It's one of those looks that appears to be really stylish on a model with twig-like legs and flattering lighting. In real life.. it looks like an odd mish-mash.

Go for an A-line skirt, or a mini-dress with black tights. Those will look much more chic with the boots, imo.

That's exactly what I was thinking! You really need to be an actress or model to get away with that outfit.

I agree though, the shorts are very summer casual.
I like the look but think you need much smarter shorts in a dark colour in maybe leather, velvet or denim. Or you could also go sequins for a Christmas party look.
