I hope my DC will grow into loving to dress up, because I love it, and I would like to share that with her. But so far, not so much.

Charlotte may love it, she will get actual diamond tiara's not plastic and perfectly fitted amazing gowns. On the other hand at the moment dressing up for her is classic, conservative, often old fashioned dresses that most young girls and woman would struggle with.

Only the dressing up we see at events like Trooping. It’s a uniform, the same as Catherine’s conservative work outfits are a uniform. She’ll be dressing up in her private life/with friends the same as any other young girl in her circle.

Maireas · 05/12/2025 11:10

Yes, we see Charlotte at official events. It's a uniform, as @Indianrollerbird says.
Her last birthday picture was taken on a hike and she was wearing trousers and a waterproof jacket like most girls of her age would wear in that situation.
We rarely see her in her private moments, which is exactly right.

I always imagine the eye -rolling that goes on behind the scenes ..”But why do we all have to wear blue??!!” Etc.!

Maybe they've been socialised to accept it. Like putting your child in a school uniform, or appropriate wear for a wedding or a funeral. They don't complain, they understand it's dressing for a particular event.

My son gives not a single care clothes, but that means he's happy to wear whatever. He has reached the later stages of secondary school without ever eye rolling or uttering a single complaint be it uniform for school, particular kit for out of school activities, smart clothes for formal events or casual for every day. He may have a favourite t-shirt or find a particular pair of trousers more comfortable but these slight preferences don't mean he won't cheerful wear whatever is appropriate for the occasion.

When my dd was about 8 homework involved putting words into sentences. One of hers was It is important always to wear APPROPRIATE shoes. She would be a great royal. My son and other dd less so.

Kate's in green for her Christmas concert. Not sure if its a brand new coat or if she's added the (presumably fake) fur collar to an old one.

ProfessorIDareSay · 05/12/2025 16:41

According to Telegraph:

”The Princess arrived wearing a teal Catherine Walker & Co coat that she first wore in Ireland five years ago with a collar from Troy London.”

Maireas · 05/12/2025 16:59

Kate looks lovely, I really like the addition of the fake fur collar. Gorgeous star earrings!
The Winkleman -Windsor girls look sweet in their matching coats.
I wouldn't have recognised Katie Melua, she looks a bit bridal!

Anne was at the Guildhall dinner for the German Chancellor and looked really lovely.

Kate looking perfectly perfect at her carol thing. She really looks glowing with health these days and plays the media game so well. There’s never a photo of her looking anything less than thrilled to bits at engagements (where smiling is appropriate).

Maireas · 05/12/2025 17:39

Uh oh... I've just spotted that Louis' jacket looks... double breasted...
William and George in single breasted classic cut suits. Phew 😅

I noticed that! Awful! Also Kate’s sister in law is wearing something rather odd.

Eaumyword · 05/12/2025 17:45

Kate looks fabulous! Gorgeous hair, glowy skin and makeup and a lovely coloured coat.
Perfect!
Oh and the earrings are lovely too!

Aww, he's only a boy. I was just making a joke about the double breasted bit. He looks absolutely fine, very sweet.

Sophie, the Gloucesters, Tindalls and PMoK were also in attendance, as were the Middletons. No Yorks!

Sophie and Birgitte looked good in burgundy and red, respectively.

NewAgeNewMe · 05/12/2025 18:23

Kate looks lovely and I have serious coat envy!

EmpressSisi · 05/12/2025 18:50

Catherine’s coat is swoon worthy 😍 She looks stunning as usual and those snowflake earrings are gorgeous.

The kids look lovely too! They’re such a photogenic family.

Pallisers · 05/12/2025 19:17

I think I must be alone in being disappointed in Catherine's outfit. It is grand but if I've seen her in one narrow dark green coat I've seen her in 100 - she must have a room of dark green coats. Ditto with the tartan skirt underneath. Her make up is lovely and so are the earrings and obviously she looks lovely. That is her style and she isn't going to change now but I'd have loved to see her in something prettier or colourful or ... something.

I think she looks lovely, but I sort of agree that she looks quite pared down. But I also think she's trying not to overshadow the whole thing (from a media POV) with what she's wearing.

Sidebeforeself · 05/12/2025 19:50

She looks warm, Christmassy, sparkling and happy.
