After many years together DP and I are getting married.
It’s literally just us and our two older teenagers in the registry office. No guests and no party or anything afterwards ( we don’t think. May decide to go out for celebratory drinks when we’ve finished). I’m mid 40’s. I’m neutral/ warmed toned with blonde hair and blue eyes. I’m not a massive fan of dressing up.

I’d like to wear a dress but ..

I’m very fat (24/26)
I’m a horrible shape. I have lipodema and really big cankles. This means anything other than a maxi dress is out of the question. I also can’t wear heels due to an ankle injury.

I’m fairly feminine I like nice hair/make-up/nails. I like pastels and flowers etc etc
Im going round in circles trying to find a dress or outfit to wear.
It needs to be very budget friendly. I’ll literally wear this dress or outfit for those few hours.
Can anyone please help? I’d prefer online shopping and trying on at home.
Many thanks if you can find this holy grail!
Ohh to add I’d like my arms covered as well and no slits up the side of the dress either)

any opinions on this one? Is it too see through? I really like it in white as well?!

That’s really lovely!

Read the Trustpilot reviews for Azazie. The 5 star ones are from North America, the 1 star ones from GB.

I was 60 when I married and a size 20. Absolutely do not worry, your wedding day will be such a happy day. Buy a dress you love, pretty shoes, makeup and get your hair done for the photos! I like pretty much all of the dresses shown here, you will look gorgeous. I bought my wedding dress second hand, a very pale blue grey silk. Some charity shops specialise and Oxfam have an on line wedding shop, though I havent checked out the prices.

Congratulations! I too am getting married next year in a small service. I'm 48 and a size 16 and very busty but I am autistic so fabric choice is important to meet my sensory needs as well as comfortable shoes and underwear. I went shopping and found an orange summer dress in silk and that's what I am going with.
I found it helped to imagine me in my dress with flowers next to hubby in his suit - that made an otherwise non-bridal dress feel more dridal in my head.

I really like the deep pink one suggested above. If hubby wore a dark suit with matching handkerchief and you have a bouquet in hand you'll look gorgeous together!

This one is my favourite of those suggested: YOURS LONDON Plus Size Pink Lace Wrap Pleated Maxi Dress | Yours Clothing

Zebracat · 14/11/2025 16:36

Congratulations.
Dont worry about it being a wedding dress. Buy something you love and will want to wear again. I like this in wedding dress from Joanne, in the sale!

What's your go to outfit that you already have? What do you feel best in?

And I think (being 'budget conscious' too) that I'd prefer to buy something that I'd get a lot of wear out of.

Like some dressy trousers and a dressy top from Evans or Yours, something that you know suits you and you won't feel like a wally in.

That's from a fellow shy fatty so said with much solidarity.

And congratulations!!!!!

Never even thought of that. I think I’d struggle though with my sizing issues. Literally looking on Shien that’s my budget (mainly as I’d never wear it again!)
Thank you

Why not a trouse suit with pallazo trousers and wafty top which is fitted at the bust. Even in navy is classy and useable for other days...dress up with chunky necklace silver or gold tone .....

I was your size when I got married- Bigger, actually. My friend owns a bridal shop (Pink Butterfly Brides) she caters for alternative and plus-size. Well worth looking her up online (Samantha Buca). She made my dress, all of my girls dresses, some other gowns I've ordered to be designed and made. She does it all herself with anything you want and she'll dress your shape appropriately, so you're comfortable and feel confident. She's just been a part of Paris Fashion Week and has a series on BBCi Player (the wedding dress shop). I think my dress was around a size 28 to 30, at the time. So, definitely check her out online!

That’s gorgeous! It’ll be an April wedding. Do you think it’s too wintery? I love the blush pink
option. I’m just worried all everyone will see is my horrid lumpy legs and wonder if I'm too
old to marry!
Thank you.

Not at all wintery it is beautiful. Are you not bothered about white/cream?

Coffeeishot · 14/11/2025 17:20

Of course you are not to old to marry, you could buy it try it on and send it back

Downtrod · 14/11/2025 17:28

Temu just size up

Bopeepsmum · 14/11/2025 17:30

I'm a fellow lipi lady and got married in my 40s.I was a bit worried about what to wear but in the end thought sod it Im going all out. I wore a big poofy dress that totally hid my lipi legs and I wore a lace bridal jacket which disguised my lipi arms.I got some ballet flats with a tiny heel from jd williams/ vinted. Most importantly, you aren't too old at all, wear something that you love and your happiness will shine through. Congratulations

Marosanne · 14/11/2025 17:45

Of course you're not too old to get married! You obviously love each other and you're beautiful to your husband to be! I wish you all the luck in the world, you sound like a lovely lady ❤️

Ahh thank you all so much. I’ll have a look at the links provided.
I’d like a white dress but again worried I’d look bigger. I
i also like the idea of palazzo pants. Might have to look.
Your comments have been really lovely. I feel so much more confident now. Thank you all 🩷

Absolutely stunning but way out of my price range unfortunately. Your friend is very talented. They’re truly gorgeous.

I will look on Vinted. I bought a lovely dress for a christening on there during lockdown.
I think I’ll just be doing my own hair and make-up. My nails are always done and DD2 is a trainee hairdresser so she’ll be on hand. I’ll treat myself to my eyelashes done. I have very pale lashes so that will make a big difference to looking polished I feel. Thank you 🩷

Remember it’s about you and your partner - you feel so happy and special on the day anyway nothing else will matter .
