Get rid of wrinkles does anything work?

Wrinklefairy2025 · 31/10/2025 14:58

Looking at lyma (£2k) and other devices that might help a nearly 56yr old with dry skin and linesbI would rather not see so much.
Also thinking about something to help for future.
Looked at led masks but can't use as had floater and retinal problems last year. All fine now but do not want to risk that returning.
Foreo bear looked great but have a few metal fillings so out again. Think there was another one but had same problem with metal fillings.
Then saw lyma and nira. Lyma gets mixed reviews. Some are amazing and I really want to beleive but wonder if all fake. Then nira but not sure I could deal with pain every day.
Does anyone have any experience on something that helps. Want truthful experiences not just the rosy side.

Watching with interest! 😀

It seems like you are looking more high tech options, but I'm the same age and I swear by Tretinoin. I read an article in New Scientist saying it's the only topical skin care that works effectively. I get mine OTC from Spanish pharmacies, as I'm out there several times a year, but you can get it here on private prescription too.

Cotswoldmama · 31/10/2025 19:41

Yep Tretinoin is amazing I've been using it for about 3 years, it's potent so you need to build up slowly. I use skin&me you can use my code to get a month free just £3.50p&p.

https://www.skinandme.com/?promocode=LAURENS5YP3

Or they have a sister company I can't remember the name I think it has the word beyond in it. I also always wear spf 50 everyday and use a serum with vit c in the morning. I'm not sure of it's helped or not but I drink collegen everyday too.

menopausalfart · 31/10/2025 19:46

Tret is great for fine lines, not great for established wrinkles. I'm looking at going down the facelift route eventually.

HushTheNoise · 31/10/2025 19:47

Hrt

Wrinklefairy2025 · 31/10/2025 19:53

HushTheNoise already on hrt and still looking for solutions.

Will look into tret if that works. My daughter is actually using skin&me for acne. Had no idea it could also help with my age group :)
Had been looking at devices but def not fixed on those at all. Do you need to be careful with tret and using others cream/serum. I am a bit clueless with this.

I looked up skin + me sister company and found they now have changed name to Renew + Me for midlife skin.
They prescribe a nightly treatment and you can use your own cleansers.

What active ingredients does my Nightly-Active-Treatment contain? – Renew + Me

trying to find out the difference between that and the skin + me daily doser as it does have a menopausal skin section. I have a blue light special offer so would rather go with them.
I have also heard that Dermatica has a good reputation but that was when looking for acne serums for my dd. Need more research but think am going to try this rather than spend ££££ on devices that might not make a difference.

Tret and surgery are the only things that really do seem to help. Fillers help temporarily but need topping up, can migrate and look weirder over time.

RosesAndHellebores · 01/11/2025 10:29

A facelift. If wrinkles are significant at 56, it's genetic.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 01/11/2025 10:29

Sort out your dry skin - makes it much worse

Tret

HRT

Botox for crows feet etc

Filler for deep 11s etc

Face lift if it's everywhere

Not sure the fancy masks do anything but I might be wrong

This, creams and masks are snake oil. Save up for a facelift, hrt does wonders too

Blanketfull · 01/11/2025 12:37

It's not a permanent or a be all and end all solution, but ime drinking loads of water plumps your skin up, especially dry skin, as well as anything I've found on the market.

thedogdaysareover51 · 01/11/2025 12:38

Agree with others-tretinoin is truly amazing. However it’s tricky to use and irritant to begin with so you have to start slowly.
I use a red light mask and I really don’t know if it works or not but I’m happy to carry on. You keep your eyes closed while it’s on so I wouldn’t have thought it would affect your vision.
I also use one of the microcurrent devices-Foreo Bear I think. I have metal fillings too and it doesn’t affect them at all.
The best bang for your buck though is tretinoin and Botox.

If I had that sort of budget I’d book neogen plasma.

If I had double that budget I book for fully ablative CO2 laser.
Ive been watching a 55 year old nurse on TikTok who is documenting her recover, she now looks 30. It’s knocked decades off her!

Hrt

HRT is not prescribed for wrinkles! It’s not the elixir of youth.

Do a lot of research if considering these, side effects, downtime etc.Looking online at before and after photos, I wasn’t impressed and it’s very expensive. Save for a face lift!

It definitely helps, loss of hormones is aging.

The fully ablative Co2 laser results are incredible, the recovery does look brutal though, and the down time is pretty long, but the effects I’ve seen are amazing. I’ve messaged a few people who have had it done and they have been very honest with their answers, I’ll never have that amount to shell out though, so definitely won’t have enough for a facelift.

The neogen does need redoing every 18 months or so, but Shirley Ballas, and others I’ve seen, all look pretty good for the price.

So is smoking, bad general health and sunbathing. I haven’t noticed friends on HRT looking any better than those who aren’t.

Of course those things are hugely damaging, never said they weren’t.
But HRT makes a massive difference to skin and vitality.

How does HRT help please? I’m hopefully going to be starting it soon and have been looking at all the devices as well. I already use Tret and have done for years, which does help but as I’ve lost some weight, I’m getting a bit of looseness!

Letthemeatgateau · 01/11/2025 17:13

Tretinoin. Not from Skin & Me, its far cheaper to buy from an online pharmacy and there's no subscription.

Wrinklefairy2025 · 01/11/2025 21:54

Letthemeatgateau where do you get it from. I would be scared about ordering from a fake place. Any good ideas?

You can fill in an online firm or email them - ask for retirides and they'll let you know what they have. Been using them for years after they were recommended on here. Postage isn't cheap, so I order several tubes at a time

Is it still classed as a medication?

Website says medications have been removed from website due to Andorran Govt.
