Get rid of wrinkles does anything work?

Looking at lyma (£2k) and other devices that might help a nearly 56yr old with dry skin and linesbI would rather not see so much.
Also thinking about something to help for future.
Looked at led masks but can't use as had floater and retinal problems last year. All fine now but do not want to risk that returning.
Foreo bear looked great but have a few metal fillings so out again. Think there was another one but had same problem with metal fillings.
Then saw lyma and nira. Lyma gets mixed reviews. Some are amazing and I really want to beleive but wonder if all fake. Then nira but not sure I could deal with pain every day.
Does anyone have any experience on something that helps. Want truthful experiences not just the rosy side.

The Trinny microneedle comes with a cleaning spray and instructions re how many times to use before it will be too blunt. I’m finding it really good.

Wrinklefairy2025 · 03/11/2025 10:46

Does it hurt? I am a bit of a wimp :)

WhiskyandWater · 03/11/2025 11:41

Not at all (I am a wimp too). In fact it’s so painless I’ve been known to over do it and end up a bit red

Wrinklefairy2025 · 03/11/2025 11:47

WhiskyandWater thanks that sounds good. Did you go for the 0.5 or 0.3?
Do you also use retinols/tretinoin ? Or is it a case of one of the other.

OP posts:
WhiskyandWater · 03/11/2025 13:33

I went for 0.5, I used to use tret but it didn't really make a difference (used for about four years) so gave up. I wouldn’t go headfirst in to everything, I’d go slow and do one at a time.

Finemjen · 03/11/2025 13:55

IMO : sleep, drinking water, exercising, and limiting sugary / processed food works!

Branster · 03/11/2025 14:06

OP there was a thread on here from someone who used Lyma and lost volume in the face which she attributed to the laser device. I'm sure there are similar reports on other forums. I would stay away from this particular machine.
An in-clinic laser treatment would be much more effective. I've never had one so I'm not we qualified to advise you and I have no personal experience to share.
Peptides are very good for 11s but you must use regularly.

Please don't have a facelift! you won't look better/younger. Just weirder...

As well as creams lifestyle also plays a big part: don't smoke, use day cream with SPF, get enough sleep and do plenty of exercise (helps the blood flow which is good for the skin) and don't get too slim because as we age being too skinny makes your face look gaunt.

So what do you suggest for jowls and turkey neck, then ? They’re so depressing! I’d say don’t waste money on non surgical procedures that work out very expensive, time consuming, with downtime, often have no discernible difference, and need several sessions to maintain whatever effect they do have! Home Microneedling carries a significant infection risk, imo. Ultherapy can melt fat in the face if not done properly. Not worth the risk. The only things that I’ve found make a difference are a little filler to Marionette lines once a year, thread vein treatment and salon quality LED. Radio frequency, etc are a waste of time.

Delatron · 03/11/2025 14:46

A well done face lift can look very good. Far better than loads of fillers.

I think it’s the only answer with jowls - you either live with them or get a very good facelift!

Thepossibility · 05/11/2025 07:30

BeretRaspberry · 03/11/2025 07:58

I’m always wary of microneedling as I’ve read so many things about it not being sterile etc etc. I assume you haven’t had any problems? Do you have any recommendations for use/keeping it clean etc and what to go for in terms of device?

I always read too much about things then end up confusing myself!

I buy bottles of 100% alcohol and soak the roller in a capful before and after use. The bottle lasts ages and it worth it for the peace of mind that the roller is pristine.
I also recommend doing the neck and backs of hands as well as the face, I've noticed improvement of the skin on both since I started needling approx 6 months ago.

cannyvalley · 05/11/2025 07:52

No experience of gagets.. but I also second the PP’s who said get your skin rehydrated and use SPF. Nothing gives wrinkles like dry skin and the sun.

Tretinoin from Dermatica is amazing. They do a questionnaire and then mix you a blend of active ingredients to address your specific concerns. I have a monthly subscription and just use the one tube at night, then night cream on top.

I use my other serums like Hyaluronic acid in the morning, and factor 50 every day.

Thank you so much. I already have some alcohol of that strength so might give it a go. I’m assuming washing your face with normal face wash is sufficient or do you need a special product for that too?

Also, as I use Tret, does anyone know how long a gap I should leave between it all please?

Thepossibility · 05/11/2025 08:01

I do a double cleanse to be safe.

Fundays12 · 05/11/2025 08:05

I am 45 and really noticed wrinkles and lines etc a couple of years ago. I started with microdemonbraisians but then moved onto microneedling (please make sure you use someone very qualified and experienced though) and this made a huge difference. I also use tretenion once a week in a very low dose but it does dry skin out so I use castor oil 20 minutes later. If you use tretenion you need to use spf every single day summer or winter. I also use a lot of aldi dupes morning and night. Double cleanse your make up helps and do a weekly face scrub and face mask for rejuvenation. I bought nutriogeeks collagen powder which has helped with loads of things including my skin. All this has knocked a few years off me.

Someone mentioned Shirley Ballas, she looks amazing! ( and not weird ). How does she do it?

I agree, she's definitely had work done, but her looks good!

She had neo gen plasma, Morpheus 8 and Botox.

Delatron · 05/11/2025 08:21

I’m too nervous to try Morpheus 8 though. That’s also what Judy Murray had

Dermatica starts at 0.025, then 0.05, then 0.1, the highest. I tried the highest twice but found it too drying and made my skin sore, so I’ve stayed on 0.05 and it’s fine.

This is interesting. I'm on skin and me at 0.015 and my face gets itchy and red slightly dry/flaky patches, if I don't have a night off every so often. I don't think I have particularly sensitive skin.
I cleanse well and put loads of night cream on afterwards. I use face oil too to help with any dryness.
Any tips?

Delatron · 05/11/2025 08:36

I think it’s good to have a least one night off tretinoin a week? Though that’s individual. Some people
can only tolerate 2-3 times a
week.

I use Vaseline, especially at the corners of the mouth and nose as these areas can become dry and sore. I use tret five times a week and a good moisturiser on the other two days.

BookSmith · 05/11/2025 15:30

I have a NIRA. I also use retinol nightly and have Botox once a year. I am 53 and have no wrinkles. I started Botox at 37 because of forehead lines. I now don’t even get them when the Botox wears off.

It seems like you are looking more high tech options, but I'm the same age and I swear by Tretinoin. I read an article in New Scientist saying it's the only topical skin care that works effectively. I get mine OTC from Spanish pharmacies, as I'm out there several times a year, but you can get it here on private prescription too.

What do you buy in Spain please ?

WhoInvitedHer · 05/11/2025 17:39

Anyone tried both Dermatica and Skin+ Me subscriptions and can compare them please? And I’m sure there is one call Dermalogica but might have imaged that!!!

It's Tret with the brand name of Retirides. I started with .25 strength once or twice a week and worked up from there. It's sold without prescription in most pharmacies.
