Brown ankle boots, not too chunky not too frumpy

I need to replace my ancient JL brown brogue ankle boots. I've lived in them for the last two winters but I can't find anything to replace them with. I've tried some Jones ones... too high and dig in when I walk. Tried some Pikolinos ones... too tight and squashed my little toes. Tried some Gabor ones... not brogues and the very plain front looks like wellies when worn with jeans.

I'm not normally this fussy! I'm after brown ankle boots for a size 6. DMs a bit too chunky. Camper ones recommended elsewhere don't have a grippy sole. I don't want suede as my maintenance skills are limited. My current boots have a zip as well as laces and I'd like that again.

Budget is around £150. Any genius S&B-ers out there?

Thanks @SiobahnRoy -- they look really nice but i think I'm too impatient for something that's difficult to get on! I love the zip on my current boots but maybe that's one the frumpy features...

I’ve had the Chelsea boot version of these since last winter and they’re really comfy. Ecco shoes are dlightly wide fitting so I have a few pairs now, always comfy.

Have a look at Moda in Pelle

Can you post a photo of your current boots?

these are nice - have laces & zip -

Fab, thanks all. So many nice choices. I've ordered a couple of pairs from M&S purely because i can collect them locally tomorrow. Otherwise I'll have to be a bit more patient.

How about Barbour? I'm currently wearing the Barbour Evie boots and they are much better quality than my DM's and Fly boots.

WearyCat · 28/10/2025 21:52

I like Fly London and Bareback boots. Also Moshulu have some nice looking ones, but I’ve only had their slippers (which are great) so can’t vouch for the quality of the boots.

I have these in Zinfandel red but they do them in other colours. Very comfy, reassuringly well made. Brogue like but boots.

They used to do these ones but less chunky and in a tan which I wear more often (must have been Bardsey 1). Again really comfy and look like they will last for years. I got them on ebay brand new for £35.

I have the non fluffy lined version of these boots. I really love them. Very good quality and really comfortable. Reluctant to buy any boots other than Moshulu now as the two pairs I have are worn more than anything else. And I'd never heard of them before a recommendation on here.

Thanks, love the plum in those too, decisions decisions!

I had some moshulu sandals having randomly come across one of their shops while on holiday. They were great, but when I came to replace them the quality had massively declined and the price nearly doubled so that put me off somewhat. Maybe I was just unlucky.

I had a pair of moshulu slippers once. They had such a thick sole, I kept falling off them. But that could be a me issue.

Following with interest, and eying up the Ariat boots.

I've got the M and S boots and they're a bit too high up the leg 😢

The Gabor boots I've got (and not yet returned) are chelsea boot style and are nice but when worn with longish jeans have such a plain front that they look like wellies.

I've chucked my previous boots away as they were falling apart. But while browsing for pics of what they were like, I found these and i think these are the ones for me. Josef Seibel. Maybe deeply unfashionable but hey ho!

Fly London have great boots

T K Maxx has a few pairs of Osprey brown leather ankle boots, only in a size 6 reduced from 295 to 79. They will go quickly I think.
