Iim so uncharacteristically nervous but very excited also. I have not seen the majority of these ladies for 28-30 years ! I’ve recently lost nearly three stone so not only have I no idea how to dress anymore, I really want to pull out all the stops and feel/ look incredible.
My best features are my legs, boobs and a longish neck.
I’ve dark brown wavy hair to below my collar bones and my face is kind of tan lately.
Red used to look best on me but not sure anymore. I like red lipstick but haven’t had the confidence to wear it in years I’m proportioned I think.
please help.
I looked at HOBBS earlier and saw a navy sequinned shift dress to above the knee but couldn’t even decide on that! I’m 52 btw!
I feel tired and old but would love to feel/ look young and elegant.
thanks so much

Try Scarlett & Jo . And if you liked red maybe purple tones would be nice . Congrats on the weight loss too!

Don’t buy anything from Hobbs …

It’s highly unlikely that your former friends / peers (even if same sex attracted) will care about your neck, chest and legs - they may well notice the relative stylishness and up to date-ness of your clothes. So you need to consider contemporary brands and shops.

Do you have a maximum budget - and what would it need to cover?

MakemineaGandT · 27/10/2025 20:56

Definitely don’t go for the sequinned Hobbs dress - it sounds dated and not the vibe you’re going for!
What about something like this which can be dressed up or down (slingbacks/faux fur jacket/bold jewellery for evening, or long boots and long wool coat for day). It’ll be a useful piece in your wardrobe for lots of occasions as well as this one!

soupyspoon · 27/10/2025 20:58

Personally I think dresses are frumpy and aging. A smart tailored sassy trouser suit or something like that is better, funky shoes and jacket or something

Sorry but after your Hobbs-slating and appeal to OP to dress more fashionable I was expecting something really cool, not a gown which could be used for a Halloween interpretation of a Franciscan monk

Whats the budget

Look at Anthropologie and Whistles.

laceandbeads · 27/10/2025 21:44

Thanks so much ! My budget is £250 for a dress / tailored suit .
what about a tuxedo type blazer/ cigarette pants and some satin/ sequin cami effort ??? Black? Or is that just boring ? Open to all ideas and appreciate them.
I had a look at Kate Moss on Pinterest who seems to wear different versions of the same cut and colour of dress repeatedly . She always looks so fantastic though !

Absolutely what you have set out. Gorgeous and then really glam it up with the bag, shoes and jewellry

Sophistication is glam

laceandbeads · 27/10/2025 21:52

Where should I look for a gorgeous well cut tuxedo blazer? And what colour/ fabric cami as well as accessories would you choose? Please include sandals/ shoes, bag etc

Well John Lewis has a Boden velvet jacket called Stamford, not sure its stricly a tux jacket and then straight leg velvet trousers but it needs to be quite fitted otherwise you'll end up looking boxy

Hows your arms and shoulders, theres quite an interesting red strapless jumpsuit.

soupyspoon · 27/10/2025 22:02

How funny theres loads of us spotting the same thing. I think we've found your outfit OP!

OvenChick · 27/10/2025 22:02

@MakemineaGandT What the FUCK is that?

OP, avoid sequins, they are not sophisticated. Do not copy Kate Moss either.

Start by getting your colours done and go from there.
