Iim so uncharacteristically nervous but very excited also. I have not seen the majority of these ladies for 28-30 years ! I’ve recently lost nearly three stone so not only have I no idea how to dress anymore, I really want to pull out all the stops and feel/ look incredible.
My best features are my legs, boobs and a longish neck.
I’ve dark brown wavy hair to below my collar bones and my face is kind of tan lately.
Red used to look best on me but not sure anymore. I like red lipstick but haven’t had the confidence to wear it in years I’m proportioned I think.
please help.
I looked at HOBBS earlier and saw a navy sequinned shift dress to above the knee but couldn’t even decide on that! I’m 52 btw!
I feel tired and old but would love to feel/ look young and elegant.
thanks so much

Hi op, I’m the same height and about the same age , my go to;s are me + em and Reiss,

I recently bought these, the dress I would say is an orange red and is really flattering and elegant on, I post it as you like red, I’d happily wear it to a relaxed evening do, note me + em tend to run big, so if a 12 - 14 go for the 12.

and also these trousers in olive, they are gorgeous on, and they have the navy in your size, a silk vest , and a contrast blazer would work well to complete the outfit.

reiss also does some great stuff, and I find them perfect for length.

To look modern, then I’d not be doing Hobbs, sequins or knee length, as that’s very dated, instead midi dresses, wide leg trousers, skimming the body type stuff, which is excellent quality, in a lovely fabric, and well cut, usually works well.

Thank you all SO much! Some amazing suggestions and I appreciate them all .
maybe TMI but my bum is a bit ( very) flat . Any ideas on how to fake it till I make it .. esp if I was going down the trousers route?

Wide leg trousers, they hang better. I have an awful flat bum, no shape whatsoever, you can pull off quite an androgynous look with a fitted waist so it pulls you in and the trousers are voluminous enough to hang over your bum with some shape.

Then because you have a good bust, make sure the shirt/jacket/cami top is fitted so you have a curvy silhouette. Its a great combination, very stylish. Very 80s OP, me and you are the same vintage, take insipiration from people like Grace Jones and Annie Lennox

You can get bum-enhancing shapewear, not that I've tried it myself, but might be worth trying some on!

I really like the Reiss tuxedo @MissFritton65 suggested.

As a pp said, wide leg trousers , it can actually make the shape work v well and be slimming, Spanx shorts also can pull it up and make your backside look fuller.

Hi. I am by no means a fountain of knowledge but have a smart event coming up. I look awful in dresses but have bought a Jaeger navy linen jacket that is very nicely cut and flattering from Vinted, cigarette style navy trousers (Next or M&S), gorgeous Gabor navy shoes and a bright red silk/satin shirt (also a green silk/satin shirt just in case I lose my nerve) and a suade navy clutch bag. I intend to bling it up with some nice jewellery and possibly a red lip. I don't wear lipstick ever really so not sure about this but looking at Lisa Eldridge. I have a pair of red suade flat shoes if the Gabor ones are a bit tricky. Might keep them in the car for emergencies. It is a headache if you don't normally dress up. I went to something else about a year ago and bought a gold silky shirt and black velvet trousers and jacket and it was a great winter party outfit. Well done losing weight.🤗 I have lost 8 stone as well and am just re thinking all clothes and hope never to wear a cover all tunic again. Hope you have a wonderful time 😀

You know something? If it's a good evening people might remember what you wore. If it's a great evening you won't remember what you wore!
