@BlueLimes I did read about the Boots one, and I would like to get the points, I just found it confusing needing to use the points within so many minutes of depositing and having a minimum spend, rather than being able to just let it build up and use when ready. Having to do that every time feels like a faff, and I think I’d end up spending more in the long run 🫠

BakeOffRewatch · 08/11/2025 10:14

Does anyone remember the one on waifs and strays last year that was random objects individually wrapped? I loved that one.

@Thelifeofawife pop in the boots recycling even if you don’t want to do the points thing?

@BakeOffRewatch I also don’t mind the request not to post before 0700. It’s huge treat for a lot of people, May have saved all year etc

I love seeing what people have on the waifs and strata thread.

I agree with the 7am rule it's just you do always get someone new and excitable who just found the thread and doesn't realise there are thread rules. For that reason if a spoiler truly ruins your day then it's best to not open the thread until ready.

I haven't used the Boots one yet for the same reasons. I did locate the recycle bin in the Boots near work a few weeks ago but it was so full I couldn't have deposited anything in it. Also feel I might end up buying for the sake of it. Every time I go back to look at the Boots one it feels like there's too many rules I need to remember.

SavageGarden23 · 08/11/2025 10:23

@Thelifeofawife its not like that. I first scan code on the recycling box, select stuff to deposit and dump them. Then I grab10 quids worth of stuff I need to buy anyway. A barcode pops up in the app meantime which I dont open untill I am paying for my stuff, scan advantage card, tell the lady that I need to scan recycle voucher, scan it. Then you get 500 points added to advantage card which does not need spending straightaway.

BakeOffRewatch · 08/11/2025 10:23

I should do the Boots one. I always need nappies and wipes.

Last year I bought my first ever advent, the Liberty, and have almost used up the products I loved and gifted others, so it was great value through the year. This year I joined the thread and bought the Space NK advent and then lusted after the Diptyque, which I bought as an extra special treat on my birthday and following a gruelling hospital procedure the same week. I also bought a lux beauty edit at Space NK which I have been using daily. So I have spent much more than I should have and I do feel 'slightly' guilty now about the Diptyque. It is such a thing of beauty though, I have it on display and it is the most beautifully designed calender I have ever seen, I look at it with love every morning🙂

BlueLimes · 08/11/2025 10:32

Boots - I agree you need to be careful not to spend for the sake of spending. I try to just buy the household toiletries there - DD seems to get through a lot of Aussie conditioner.
@OvaHere yes agree with not jumping on people who just posted out of excitement.
must admit I don’t like people who put a photo on the Liberty box thread pre delivery but I just avoid that now.

🤣
You’re such an enabler!

💁🏻‍♀️ You'll be gutted if it sells out 🤣

JoRaRaRa · 08/11/2025 10:44

I found the boots recycling scheme quite overwhelming and thought I had to run off to do my purchases in 5 mins, but it's not like that. It's quite easy to do really. You get the voucher on the app and then you can get the things you want, take them to the till and the 5 mins starts when you open the voucher.

I'm OK not posting on the AC threads until after 7am. I'm still quite new to these threads and don't want to be told off 🤣

I’ve always steered clear of the opening threads - I’m actually just too busy at work to keep up and regularly contribute and then fear I will feel the wrath for accidentally breaking rules if I try and join in. I like mindfully opening my advents too, to enjoy the process, and don’t want to be rushing to share thoughts when I haven’t fully formed them or get biased by others opinions. My obsessive Mumsnet stalking is definitely confined to these buying threads. The thrill of the chase and all that.

I don’t really participate in the opening threads much either. It usually just people saying, ‘happy with this’ or ‘don’t like, will gift to X’ or something similar.

Also don’t really like the fact that there are ‘rules’ which seem to be biased towards people who get up a certain times, and people get dickish about it, as if a 5 year old has just had their birthday surprise ruined 😂. If it’s the correct date then you should be fine to post, regardless of time. I tend to open mine before bed as mornings are too rushed for me to want to sit down and open advents.

Isabelle70 · 08/11/2025 10:54

I have used the boots blister and beauty recycling and have it down to a fine art now. I go and get my products to check they have what I want, make the deposit and then go and pay. I have managed to get £23 worth of points from the recycling and that has been used towards a Christmas present.

BlueLimes · 08/11/2025 10:56

We’ve no idea what is going on in people lives, it’s probably not people being ‘dicks’ it might be the thing that gets them up in the morning.

We all get things out of proportion sometimes …

IlovePond · 08/11/2025 10:57

I enjoyed the waifs and strays thread last year. I don’t really understand the single calendar threads as everyone has the same item in each drawer, so what’s the point? I’m sure there is one, I am just missing it.

Plus all the aggro when someone posts too early - no one breaks the rule on purpose but people get really upset! I don’t mind the rule, (makes sense), but surely almost everyone knows what is coming at some point anyway? There’s no need for grumpiness😹 And it’s Xmas!

BakeOffRewatch · 08/11/2025 11:05

@MidnightMeltdown people are in different time zones, some regular posters by 9 or 12 hours though might choose not to share location , so spanning different dates. Whether it is 7am or 7pm helps to have an anchor point.

@IlovePond it’s fun to share the surprise, and to discuss how to use products or how it’s going for you, or opinions on order of the calendar. Share day to day small things. I’m not interested in the CIY opening at all, and I only follow the posts about more obscure calendars in waifs and strays. So last year I enjoyed following the Vogue, Liberty 12 day jewellery, and the individually wrapped objects one and skim over the other posts of ones I know what’s in them from reviewing contents earlier. It’s overwhelming and like 20 conversations at once with multiple BACs, so I appreciated the individual brand thread last year it was much slower too. Last year was my first time on opening threads and like PP I was just too busy to actually enjoy it and it felt like a chore so I probably won’t post much.

I’m having my first mulled wine and mince pies today! So excited.

Ah didn’t read your last paragraph. Will sound shocking having spent 4 months on the spoiler thread but some people actually buy their BACs completely blind 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱. Or received them as gifts and join the opening threads. It is a completely different group of people in addition to us here.

Following on from my previous post, it's a shame I didn't find this thread earlier. My son purchased the Bridal Beauty Company Christmas Luxe box for his girlfriend, and it was a huge disappointment—it looked nothing like the glamorous packaging shown on social media!
Question for others who bought one: Did your box include the specific BBC cream bag featured in the Instagram videos? I think ours might be incomplete. I honestly can't see how the items inside justify the £700 RRP claim. His review on the website seems to have been removed along with another reporting similar issues too.

MiaN · 08/11/2025 11:09

Years ago each GWP had at least one or two bigger items. I think the Cult Beauty perfume GWP looked good. But I have no interest in buying space nk gwps anymore. They used to have candle, 15ml creams. I have no benefit of 2g eye creams or 5g face cream and those tiny packages will mostly not be recycled. I prefer 20 or 30% off and advent calendars with good sizes in them.

That's a shame. They have form for this I'm afraid which is why I don't link them anymore on the Beauty Chat thread. Sometimes you get some good stuff but it is a case of buyer beware with them. A load of us went through this last year with items not as described or missing. I did get a partial refund but some people got better customer service than others. I've still on occasion purchased their low price mystery bundles but I keep my expectations low.

Agree you seem to get new people who get them as gifts or blind bought and haven't been on these threads. It seems to be what causes tension as we all know the 'rules' but plenty of people don't.

MidnightMeltdown · 08/11/2025 11:19

@BakeOffRewatchI think almost everyone posting from the UK or Ireland. As long as you are posting on the correct date, I don’t see why it matters. If you haven’t opened your calendar yet, then just don’t look at the thread. I don’t think it’s ok for people to try to police what other people are allowed to do and post.

OvaHere · 08/11/2025 11:22

I think I will be mostly on the waifs and strays thread as my SpaceNK box is far removed from it's original state. I think I even put some earrings in there.

My Harrods remains in tact so may pop in that one.

Yes!!! That was the best calendar of the year. Really sweet.
I also remember (last or the year before?) someone posting their tights calendar daily updates with amazing humour.

There’s loads of people from USA and AUS as well as other countries, ex-pats etc. It’s not policing, anyone can start a new thread though and no one has to join an existing one, and it seems a shame to spoil one with a group of people following their everyday ritual.
