Is this dress office appropriate ?

Mumsnet hive mind! I'm deliberating on whether to get this dress, but I would want to get a lot of wear out of it so has to be office friendly. I like it but there's some gold detailing which is making me wonder if it's too fancy for office wear. Would you wear gold in clothing in an office environment. I think i have the confidence to pull it off but it's a fine line between 'isn't she stylish' and 'god what's she come in today' and I don't want to cross it!

Depends on what your office is like but I can’t imagine that it would be inappropriate in many environments. My office is downright scruffy so you’d look overdressed there, but I doubt that many places are as scruffy as we are (and yes I mean scruffy, not casual or informal). In fact I think I’m going to start trying to raise the standards.

Although as someone else says, with a dress as distinctive as this, people will remember if you do wear it often, so you might not get as much wear out of it as you hope.

It should arrive today so I will deliberate further. It is quite a shiny, gold leaf effect gold IRL. Friday I wfh so will try it out and see. I think the gold will likely fade after a few washes which may ironically make it more office friendly, unless it ends up looking like a piece of shit in whih case ill return it.

Another lawyer. It will work in my office. I like the prints - reminds me of elaborate kimonos. But you'd have to be tall to be able to wear the big prints and not have the prints wear you.

It arrived and... its a no. Its too busy a print, I think the PP who mentioned headache inducing may be right! I have a dont love ot dont buy it rule, I like the fit/ style though and there are other patterns although none that really jump out at me.

It’s lovely and very office appropriate IMO unless a super formal suits type office.
I’d be lovely styled with a navy turtle neck jumper and a belt or a blazer when it’s cold too. Very versatile.
