When do you take off your make up?

Do you tend to take it off as soon as your home or do you do it before bed? I do mine before bed but I wonder if my skin would thank me for taking it off sooner?!?

I recently changed from right before bed, to just before dinner. Game changer tbh.

I take it off before dinner. Toner and moisturiser.

Then just before bed I brush my teeth and if im feeling fancy ill put an over night cream on
Estee Lauder over night treatment is my current favourite

Edit - typo

I feel the cooking smells/particles cling to skin and hair so I don’t feel at all clean doing this.

I have an early shower, maybe 7pm, and do everything then. I can then lounge about in PJs before bed. Obviously if I’m out for the evening that changes, I would then do it as soon as I got in.

SmearedLippie · 19/10/2025 11:58

Before bed, or earlier if I have a shower / bath earlier. Never straightaway when I get home.

ResusciAnnie · 19/10/2025 12:01

When I have a shower the next morning.

Sparklesandspandexgallore · 19/10/2025 12:07

I take mine off before I shower at night.
I don’t always wear it though, but I always cleanse my face before I go to bed. Then apply face cream. I brush my teeth just before I get into bed.

TeaRoseTallulah · 19/10/2025 17:18

Just before bed.

OldBeyondMyYears · 18/10/2025 22:38

It gets removed when I’m in the shower every morning 😂 I’m 61, have beautiful skin and I’ve never used any fancy lotions!

Snap! I am a bit younger than you but have very good skin for my age! I have always been less is more when it comes to skincare.

ProfessionalWhimsicalSkidaddler · 19/10/2025 17:54

Around bed time. If I’m really tired then the next morning 🤣

IAmThePrettiestManOnMyIsland · 19/10/2025 19:11

I never have it on anymore, I just can't be bothered. If I have an event or I'm seeing my girlfriends I do make an effort.

BobbyBrewstersMagicTorch · 19/10/2025 19:29

I'm another oldie who just washes it off in the shower the next morning. Also have good skin, which I put down to not faffing around with my skin too much. Wash with mild soap, moisturise with Nivea.

CHEESEY13 · 19/10/2025 19:33

As soon as I know I won't be going outside the front door again.

I hate make up but I hate looking at myself without it even more.

Maybe I'm using the wrong foundation - I feel like I'm wearing a death mask!

theDudesmummy · 19/10/2025 19:46

Unless I am going to slug overnight, it just stays until it rubs off overnight or washes off in morning shower. I slug about once a fortnight and on those nights I cleanse with Ponds cold cream first. I dont wear foundation unless I am going out though, and I don't go out a lot as I mostly WFH.

LindorDoubleChoc · 19/10/2025 19:50

I rarely wear it and when I do it's just one very light layer like a BB cream. So, yeah, usually the next morning! I wash my pillowcases weekly (but not my whole bed). Am slattern.

MakeMineAMilkyTea · 19/10/2025 19:56

Depends, sometimes as soon as I come in from work, others just before I go to bed. Depends what kinda mood I’m in. If it’s a fall asleep on the sofa mood it’s off asap, if it’s a loads of energy mood then bedtime.

Gwenhwyfar · 19/10/2025 20:02

Before bed, but if I'm tired I don't do it so I can see the argument for doing it earlier.

I’m also an oldie, mid fifties and I always take mine off at night, but I recently got into skin care, about 6 months ago, and although luckily my skin has always been excellent, but now I use Elizabeth Arden ceramide retinol and hdr water cream, then hyralonic acid and then a plumping moisturiser, every morning and night, and my skin now without make up looks almost luminous. The retinol is the only expensive one in there, and the hdr element is hugely effective. I’d really recommend it.

however I think the fact I’m very hydrated, drinking about 3 litres of water a day, and only drink booze every couple of weeks, take collagen daily, and eat a very healthy diet, also plays a large part in that,

Alittlefrustrated · 19/10/2025 20:25

Immediately before bed with Simple face wash (I don't wear mascara unless on a night out). I apply moisturiser afterwards.

Strawberryflavoureddogbiscuits · 19/10/2025 21:06

I tend to take my make off at the same time I get in my PJ's which is around 6pm in the winter and a bit later in the summer.

I too am amazed at the poster who says her husband has never seen her without makeup, how odd. My friend was once married to a very abusive man, he hated to see her without makeup, she had to take it off very last thing at night after he had fallen asleep nd would set her alarm for 4.30am to put her make up back on and climb back in bed so he would wake to see her with a full face made up.

Luckily she managed to escape from him and married a lovely guy.

ScarlettSunset · 19/10/2025 21:14

Before bed here.

I wear makeup for myself and wear it every day, even if I'm not going to be leaving the house or seeing anyone else at all.

When I was as younger I'd quite often sleep in my make-up too. It didn't seem to cause any issues, but these days it's become my routine to remove it just before I brush my teeth at night.

It’s not always due to abuse tho. Some people just like it. I used to be like this. I do leave the house without make up for the gym and little Tesco regularly sees me looking at absolute state but I typically will always have at least mascara on unless I’m ill. I’m not abused. Just ugly 🤣

Happyjoe · 19/10/2025 21:37

I don't wear it anymore unless a night out (rare these days!) but it used to be part of bedtime routine, doing teeth etc too. Loved that ready for bed feeling, all clean! My skin improved quite a lot when I stopped wearing makeup.

DiscoBeat · 19/10/2025 21:43

Before bed. I love the my hot cloth cleanser and the fresh clean feeling. And I hate falling asleep with mascara on, it irritates my eyes if I sleep in it.

OliviaBonas · 19/10/2025 21:44

Just before bed when I remove my lenses and clean my teeth too.

Throughahedgebackwards · 19/10/2025 21:49

A friend gave me a makeover once. It felt horrible and I washed it off immediately.

CoffeeLipstickKeys · 19/10/2025 21:52

I shower immediate I get home from work. Apply cream cleanser wash off in shower.
tinted moisturiser, tubing mascara, cream blush.

MelisandeQ · 19/10/2025 22:12

I tend to do it whilst my 3 year old is in the bath early evening and I’m sitting next to the bath nattering away to her whilst cleansing 😃 I only really ever wear mascara though, no foundation so it doesn’t take long.
