A barn jacket is currently trendy, yes. A year or two ago, would we have been calling something a "barn jacket" let alone wanting one?
But, I do think this is more wearable, and more durable, than the khaki ones with the different colored cord collar, as it is all the same color. (Chocolate brown is also a trendy color, but it is neutral enough that you won't look obviously dated in a year or two, unlike say, this summer's butter yellow).
What makes it longer-lasting is that it looks, really, like a classic Barbour jacket. This raises the question of why not get a classic Barbour, which would always be classic? For me, I don't like the feel of a waxed jacket (maybe experienced too many always slightly damp Barbours that smelt of dog during my childhood), plus I love chocolate brown, so I would go for this one.
Long story short, I like it. I think you should keep it.
