Non-clumpy, non-frumpy but comfortable loafer shoes

Hi style gurus! I've decided I need some loafers for work. I wear dresses rather than trousers (think Hobbs shift dress style) so they can't be too clunky, as that wouldn't go with the style. But I also want something with a bit of style. I don't mind spending a bit of money (say £150) for something good quality and comfortable. Thinking black or dark red. I looked online, Dune had some nice ones but no idea if they're comfortable...? Am in London so can go look in person but I don't have a huge amount of spare time for browsing between work and kids, so I'm trying to narrow down my options!

Moshulu have loafers and a reputation for comfort. I can only speak for their slippers but those are fabulous! I believe they have a wine-coloured loafer among their selection.

They also have a neat brogue which I was eyeing up earlier. And a sale!

Chunky Leather Loafers - Dark Brown - & Other Stories GB

CameForAVacationStayedForTheRevolution · 30/09/2025 08:06

The ones I linked to come in black as well. They're a bit chunky bot not overly so, imho anything less chunky is frumpy.

GarlicPound · 30/09/2025 08:21

A few of these look promising, depending on your shoe size and preference. Mine are massively chunky, these are more restrained:

These are nice... out of stock online in my size in the dark brown (which I think I prefer to black)... might be able to find in store. I don't know the brand, any thoughts on quality?

They have to go with work clothes ie shift style dress / jacket, fairly formal, which is why I'm thinking too stacked up would look odd? I have little sense of what looks right, hence coming here!!

To be honest I think the size of the shoe with a shift dress is related to the legs- my legs are chunky and muscular in shape so delicate shoes look a bit odd on me. On the other hand, a broader or chunkier shoe looks good because it balances the thickness of my legs. Someone with very slender or shapely legs might find that a fine shoe works better to keep their look formal/semi-formal because visually it’s more coherent with their more delicate build.

tattoolondon · 30/09/2025 21:04

Thanks. I’m thinking to go chunkier than I’d first planned. Think I’ll head to & Other Stories and take a look at theirs. Must be comfortable though, some of the loafers I’ve seen online look like the leather is really rigid.

I like these because they aren’t too clumpy.

They might not be quite what you are looking for but I have two pairs, which I wear with dresses, and they are definitely not frumpy! Young people comment on them often :)

I got some from Mango the other day which are very comfy because the back is very soft. They're marketed as "moccasins" rather than loafers but they are definitely loafers! I have normal to narrow sized feet, so possibly not the best for a wide foot.

I have ankle boots from them, happy with the quality.

Russell Bromley Brewster. My best friend and mum both bought them after they saw mine. I have them in black and brown leather, have already replaced once (with another black and brown pair) because I wear them constantly!

TheCurious0range · 30/09/2025 23:30

I've got these and I haven't loved a pair of shoes this much in ages. They are really comfortable too no need to break them in and the soles are really bouncy

Some of these are rather lovely - liking the chestnut and cream…

Dalston Clean Loafer by Russell and Bromley should fit the bill.
You’ll need to up your budget though!

PotatoBreadForTheWin · 01/10/2025 06:51

Following with interest, the perfect loafer is the holy grail for me. I need a 42 wide or a 43 and so many of these aren’t available for big feet.

with big feet a chunky loafer can be too huge, 45 and never found the perfect one yet but FWIW OP I’m on my second pair of these, which are incredibly comfortable
