Anyone wear their hair up most of the time?

Or tied back, etc, And prefer it?
Mine is mid length, own colour and a bit unmanageable. It always takes some work whatever I do to wear it loose. But I have probably been taken in over the years by the idea that nice healthy hair is worn loose. I know, it's daft. My hair has a nice thickness and is a good colour and looks decent in various updo's but I am not used to it and tend to keep fighting to wear it down,.

I am outdoors a lot and I do like to wear hats in winter when it gets very windy so this is probably why I tend to wear it loose. DH suggested whimsical earmuffs so no help there! I am asking the more sensible members of mumsnet to see what you think!

Yes exactly this. The associating it with what hair should be like for partying! My hair looks a mess down and I end up applying more heat on it trying to style it for going out then hating how it looks

it's weird isn't it? No matter how smart we think we are, there are these insidious beliefs, which are kind of arbitrary really. The older I get, the more I consider how short life is, and that it is much too short for faffing about wearing my hair in ways that don't make me feel fully comfortable.

I have to wear my waist lenth hair up. Im a podiatrist and can't have my hair dangling In the foot ulcers. I usually put it in a plait then wind it round and pin it in a bun.
When Im off I wear it loose or in a pony tail.

I’ve never seen this before! I can do two Dutch braids but it has a regular straight parting whereas this seems to be crossed over on the parting somehow. I’ll have to find a video tutorial for this!

Here's the link to a YouTube tute. Waterfall and double dutch braids.

Has she got oil on her hair do you think.
because It seems very easy to section out and control

Thought I'd update this as did an experiment wearing it down.

I have weird hair that doesn't quite wave, and certainly won't curl, but is fluffy and frizzy. I tend to blow dry it smooth on low heat and wear in a clip tied back.

So this time I followed the famous blow dry guy and washed with shampoo, conditioner, then a leave in with a heat protectant. For the forst week it was ok, kind of sleek and nice, but in week two it looked so dry at the ends it was awful, even with tender care.

I am back now to drying on an even lower heat so it's still bumpy but it is healthy and soft. I do have to tie it back as the atmosphere makes it fuzzy. I guess it's just my genetics.

I tried!

That or styling cream makes it a lot easier to braid.

I wear mine up pretty much 24/7 (not white because I take it out when I go to bed). I hate the feeling of it falling in my face etc.

This for me too. If I have it down I end up fiddling with it and then before too long end up putting it up as it’s annoying me I want it off my face!

I have longish, curly hair. I wear it down for about 2 hours a week Grin I'm a silversmith, so always need to have it tied back for work, but I hate having loose hair these days anyway. I usually have it a sort of loose bun-type thing, with curls springing out all over the place as the day goes on.

There’s some lovely up styles here but many I see in real life are severe and unflattering especially when hair is scraped back completely with no loose tendrils softening the look or piled on top of the head.

I don’t suit my hair up or back and have no issue with it down onto my shoulders. It might even touch my face! 😱

I feel like this is me. I'm going out next weekend and wondering if I'm going to bite the bullet and wear my hair up in a ponytail or a clip but I am nervous. Equally I know if I try and blow dry or straighten it I'll regret it!
