Why on earth can't I work Vinted?

I want some leg warmers with buttons on them. I search "leg warmers buttons". Not a single result is leg warmers with buttons. Fluffy dice? Sea sickness bands? Bra extender? A fricking bath mat? No problem.

I've added a screenshot but it probably won't show immediately.

What am I not understanding? My colleagues all rave about it but I feel like I'm stuck in a fever dream every time I search for something.

Why on earth can't I work Vinted?

I find Vinted easy to sell on, but struggle to find things to buy! So many people seem to find some great clothes on there for bargain prices, but I just don’t.

Anyway, Etsy is the place for your leg warmers!

https://www.etsy.com/uk/search?q=leg%20warmers%20with%20buttons&ref=search_bar

I think your search term is too specific and too niche. It will be showing you everything with legs or buttons, because not many people will specify say that they’re selling ‘leg warmers with buttons’. You might just have to search for leg warmers, and look at them.

Hepzibar · 24/09/2025 22:05

Leg warmers with buttons like hens teeth

qwerty222 · 24/09/2025 22:07

The way the algorithm works is a bit weird. I see the stuff I want by doing lots of favouriting. So if you do see any leg warmers with buttons be sure to favourite and then your whole home page will be leg warmers with buttons.

SilenceInside · 24/09/2025 22:08

Add a category filter for Clothing, then Women’s then All, to filter out non clothing items once you’ve done your search. And I agree that just searching for leg warmers might get more results.

Moltenpink · 24/09/2025 22:11

Posted too soon. But favourite these and the algorithm might do its job

Farkinhell · 24/09/2025 22:15

I'm intrigued as to why you specifically want them to have buttons?

If you find a nice pair you could always sew buttons on them? Cheaper than etsy

ShowOfHands · 24/09/2025 22:50

It isn't just this search; it's every search.

I can search for "black waterproof women's coat" and it shows me baby rompers, curtain rings and tape measures. The things it throws up bears no relation to my search.

DD says I'm not narrowing things down enough using filters and that does help but I simply can't understand why I can search for one thing and the results are entirely unrelated.

I'm looking for something I saw somebody wearing!

For your coat just put in waterproof coat. Let it search then use the filters to change to women’s, your size, colour etc.

beadystar · 25/09/2025 06:30

Are you sure you’re clearing your filters and making a new search each time? You also teach the algorithm what you like by hearting things.

Howinthehelldidthishappen · 25/09/2025 06:51

It's not just you, I hate searching on vinted. If i want anything from there I make one of my kids search for it instead!
I never get shown what I'm actually searching for.

I am definitely clearing the filters. And besides, at no point have I added any filters which would encourage nor searched for the random detritus it brings up in the search results.

And the algorithm does know what I like if the suggestions I receive are anything to go by. It's just the searches where I get offered various miscellaneous, unrelated items in which I have no interest.

AlphaApple · 25/09/2025 07:28

Don’t start with the search term. Vinted is too big and random for that.

start with the filters. So filter for item (women’s outerwear for example) then filter for size, colour, price range and condition. Then, if you need to, you can add specific terms in the search bar.

henlake7 · 25/09/2025 11:41

hmmm, interesting....
I got a ton more results searching 'legwarmers' as opposed to 'leg warmers'.
Are you using 2 words OP and thus confusing the search engine?

and also are leg warmers making a comeback? Speaking as somebody whose feet freeze all winter and was obsessed with Fame as a kid!

RobinEllacotStrike · 25/09/2025 11:46

Vinted keeps defaulting my search to “men’s”. No matter what I do I have to manually change it to “women’s”.
rinse & repeat forever

Shortpoet · 25/09/2025 11:54

I put it in quotes and got legwsrms with buttons

Shortpoet · 25/09/2025 11:56

Well one pair as first result.
plus other leg warmers without buttons.
no fluffy dice though.

PuppyMonkey · 25/09/2025 12:14

I’ve just put in ‘black waterproof coat women’ and this is what I get.

Its best to use as little words as possible in the search and then, as mentioned, filter.
I think I might actually be addicted to Vinted, I scroll through it like a magazine 😬

Sausagemash · 25/09/2025 12:24

Id be tempted to get plain ones then sew your own on.

Same, if anything I can work it too well 👀

Have you set your personalisation settings to "women's"?
