Why on earth can't I work Vinted?

I want some leg warmers with buttons on them. I search "leg warmers buttons". Not a single result is leg warmers with buttons. Fluffy dice? Sea sickness bands? Bra extender? A fricking bath mat? No problem.

I've added a screenshot but it probably won't show immediately.

What am I not understanding? My colleagues all rave about it but I feel like I'm stuck in a fever dream every time I search for something.

just checked and yes personalisation settings are "Women" - though I do sometimes search mens stuff too.

The sooner they can bring in a picture match function the better - it can’t be beyond the wit of man to be able to effectively say “I want a jumper like this” and upload a photo from eg Pinterest. I was looking for a plain black crewneck sweater yesterday and even narrowing down to 3 brands and brand new all sorts of weird shit came up in the search results of 500+ items

cosietea · 25/09/2025 16:15

You haven’t actually put leg warmers with buttons. You’ve put leg warmers buttons which won’t help

Don’t start with the search term. Vinted is too big and random for that.

start with the filters. So filter for item (women’s outerwear for example) then filter for size, colour, price range and condition. Then, if you need to, you can add specific terms in the search bar.

But with leg warmers, I don't mind what colour and they don't have a size so filters don't work.

And this was just an example, I seem to have a problem with any search I do but using filters does help somewhat.

I had no idea that it needs the word with to work. I've just tried it and it made no difference.

hmmm, interesting....
I got a ton more results searching 'legwarmers' as opposed to 'leg warmers'.
Are you using 2 words OP and thus confusing the search engine?

and also are leg warmers making a comeback? Speaking as somebody whose feet freeze all winter and was obsessed with Fame as a kid!

My phone autocorrects it to be two words. I'll try it with one.

Leg warmers were just an example really of how tenuous the results are.

And I don't know if they're back. I wear them all the time and always have.

Id be tempted to get plain ones then sew your own on.

I was trying to find a pair I'd seen somebody wearing as I want to know who made them.

I don't use any search terms at all, and find so much to buy that the local shops know my name when I collect! I go to the right section, eg women's clothing - tops - short sleeved, use all of the filters for colour, brand, size, then scroll through the results.

TriciaMcMillan · 25/09/2025 17:16

If you put in leg warmers buttons, the search engine will find any listings with the word leg OR warmer OR buttons in. As a pp suggested, use the filters to narrow the search first, before you add key words.

Ideally though, I'd suggest doing a Google image search for them first to find the brand, then you can filter by that, which will make it easier. Once you've found some, you can also scroll down within the listing and it gives you the option of 'similar items'', where it's done the work of finding them for you.

I was just giving an example. But Vinted is not a shop, it's a market place and is at the mercy of the descriptions that sellers put up. Filters is, in my experience, a better way to search.

Yes I’d love this. Although hopefully it’ll be better than Ebays which brings up hundreds of not very similar items😀

I’m a little bit mystified as to why leg warmers need buttons?, but guessing if you really want them decoratively you could just sew some on
please forgive me if there’s something I’m missing here

Because - as I've said twice on this thread already - I saw somebody wearing a very specific pair of leg warmers and they had buttons on them. I liked them and wanted to know where they were from. The "buttons" was to help narrow down the search.

You are not using the search capabilities correctly. Using your example - black 'waterproof women's coat'

You need to filter - women
Outerwear
Coats
Under colour, select black
Then in the search bar, type waterproof. The following will appear: https://www.vinted.co.uk/catalog?search_id=26957770131&search_text=waterproof&catalog[]=1907&page=1&time=1759007653&color_ids[]=1

Admittedly, there's a lot to look through, but you can filter down more using size. Vinted isn't that difficult to use at all .

With regards to leg warmers, unfortunately, because they're an 'other' item rather than having their own filter, you need to look through all of them.
https://www.vinted.co.uk/catalog?search_id=26957905709&search_text=leg%20warmers&catalog[]=1140&page=1&time=1759007758
However, and of course, you can still filter by colour and fabric.

And as others have suggested, Vinted learns by what you look for and favourite.

You'd be better starting your own thread.

Wouldn’t a generic google search yield better results? Once you know the brand you can search on Vinted, and set up an alert. Your way relies on someone with those exact leg warmers having them for sale at this moment.
