Vinted authentication services - experiences?

I have just bought a beautiful designer bag off Vinted and opted for their verification service. I've saved for ages and waited for over a year for one like this one to come up. Also searched other sites etc.

I can't find much info about the verification service so not sure how thorough it is. Does anyone have any experience they can share please? Am desperate for this bag not to be fake as it doesn't often come up second hand!

No experience with this but also very interested to know

Ihateboris · 16/09/2025 20:35

I bought a Louis Vuitton bag and paid for the authentication service. Vinted confirmed it was genuine. 12 months later I tried to sell it on Vestiaire and was gutted when they said it was fake. They then returned it to me and I physically went to an LV shop and was told that it was a fake.

There's a discussion on Reddit about Vinted verification service...here's a screenshot of part of it.

@Ihateboris I am so sorry to hear this. Did you manage to get your money back using bank chargeback ?

Also @Ihateboris when you tried to sell it on vestier, did they accept the photos and then reject it as fake after you sold it and it went to authentication?

Well, weirdly, I’ve seen a few designer items for sale offering verification BUT they are very obviously fakes! Sellers with no reviews and a random assortment of numbers and letters for a username. Plus, cheap and random prices, eg £20.73.
I just don’t know why they’d bother doing this!

OnlyVans · 16/09/2025 21:44

I've seen this too @JMSA. Annoyingly this seller didn't have any reviews but had a few clothes items for sale (used and not designer) and it was a relatively high-ish round number (£800) but they did accept a much lower offer of £550!

I can't find many photos of this bag online as they don't sell it in this colour anymore so it's hard to assess for myself. I took a chance but now worried it won't pay off...

@OnlyVans
I hope it works out for you (though I’m dubious, I have to say). Make the most of the time you’ve got before accepting the order, to do your own checks on it. Reddit can be good for that kind of thing.
Good luck!

Yes, the photos were accepted but it was only once they physically inspected it that it was declared a fake

Autumn1990 · 17/09/2025 06:09

I’d be very careful sellers with no reviews and an expensive item are usually scammers.

Unfortunately I didn't get my money back.

Yes, the photos were accepted but the bag failed the physical authentication. I won't risk buying on Vinted now.

I believe that once you buy the cheap item, the seller then cancels the transaction and contacts you asking you to contact them directly via their Instagram account. This account is then a platform selling fake designer goods in China.

Thanks all. It's arrived at the verification warehouse so will see what happens. I've got in touch with the brand and they said I could send them photos or take it into to the store so will see what happens if it's not rejected by Vinted.

I paid for a bag with the service. I had seen the bag in real life but you never know what you will be sent.

sminted · 17/09/2025 18:36

It wasn't a super expensive brand. I buy a fair bit on Vestaire & I think some fakes have also got through their authentication process.

sminted · 17/09/2025 18:38

But as a seller I have sold a fair few real designer bags on ebay so there are genuine ones out there.

Stillwaternever · 17/09/2025 18:40

I weedle down the fakes by asking the seller if they will or have had the item verified.

They usually ignore me, which tells me all I need to know!

If it does pass the verification service, don't assume it's still genuine. Get it authenticated by the brand but don't forget you only have two days to raise an issue with Vinted.

Hollietree · 17/09/2025 19:19

I sold a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes on Vinted. Absolutely 100% authentic, bought myself in store in New York, paid $800 for them. Had all the dustsheets, box, care card, receipt etc.

Vinted authentication service claimed they were fake! Cancelled the sale and returned them to me. They are useless.

OnlyVans · 19/09/2025 10:56

Right, it's passed verification but the verification certificate they sent to me just had a picture of the bag from the sellers listing, not the bag in the hands of the verifier which makes me very suspicious of their process.

It's being sent to me but I arranged for it to be sent to a delivery shop. I'm feeling very sceptical about the whole thing and the more I read up about Vinted verification, the less I trust it.

If I don't pick up the parcel and it gets returned to the seller will I get a refund?

OP posts:
OnlyVans · 19/09/2025 10:57

I've also found a sub on Reddit where people buy very authentic looking replica bags which makes me all the more suspicious. Such a shame as preloved is the only way I can afford a real designer bag!

Honestly, I wouldn't trust Vinted. The fact that the seller accepted such a low offer would have made me suspicious. If you don't collect the bag; it will eventually be returned to the seller at which point you will get a refund. Just out of interest; what bag was it?

OnlyVans · 19/09/2025 11:24

Thanks @Ihateboris it's a bottega bag!

Crikey...Bottega usually go for pretty high prices, even second hand. When I was ripped off, the bag came with an authentication card, serial number on the inside and box etc. I was so upset when I was told it was a replica

WilliamBell · 19/09/2025 11:31

There's no way I would spend £550 on something from a seller with no reviews.

Definitely leave it in the parcel shop and wait for your refund.
