Is this dress appropriate for work

I am looking for some clothes on Vinted for work in public sector, middle management and found this one. I love a bit of colour and lace. Also, looking for ideas to pair with any cardigans or coats for winter. Wondering what others think?

Is this dress appropriate for work

It’s very clubbing in 2010

PlanetOtter · 12/09/2025 14:37

It’s a bit OTT, but dressed down with a cardigan, tights and flats no one will notice.

Or put a white shirt under it, if that works.

RampantIvy · 12/09/2025 14:38

No. Not where I work.

Mumsyelected · 12/09/2025 14:40

No

Jaws2025 · 12/09/2025 14:41

If you took all the lace off

DancingNotDrowning · 12/09/2025 14:41

no - but mostly because it’s horrible and dated not because it’s actually inappropriate

ViciousCurrentBun · 12/09/2025 14:42

No absolutely not appropriate it’s for going out in the evening but people rarely dress up these days.

Permittedperson · 12/09/2025 14:42

That wouldn’t fly where I work.

skippy67 · 12/09/2025 14:42

No.

Gatekeeper · 12/09/2025 14:43

Christ no!!!!!

GlastoNinja · 12/09/2025 14:44

I’ve got this in a bag ready to go to Vinted. I wore it for a wedding years ago (2010 is probably not far off!) , it’s definitely nicer on than on a hanger but still definitely not a work dress.

Also, just to add, you might be disappointed if you’re expecting lace, it’s heavier than that. More like a table cloth at a fortune tellers.

TheAlcott · 12/09/2025 14:45

If your job is managing the bar at Sinatra's nite club in 1989, knock yourself out.

Otherwise, no. Don't be daft.

Scousemousey · 12/09/2025 14:46

No. Lace, sequins, spangles, transparent panels, low necks, very short skirts and very loud or bright patterns would get the thumbs down in the public sector I should think.

FurForksSake · 12/09/2025 14:46

Well it depends what you do, are you a glamorous assistant on a game show?

🤣🤣🤣

PoppySaidYesIKnow · 12/09/2025 14:47

I can’t imagine a workplace where this would be what anyone would wear. I mean, wear it if you like, but it’s really horrible, sorry !

Doggymummar · 12/09/2025 14:48

Are you a ringmaster?

ResusciAnnie · 12/09/2025 14:48

May be appropriate in very few niche roles but I can’t think of many! I work in casual clothes and it’s a no. It’s not really formal. It’s not business attire. So I dunno! Maybe if you’re front of house at a restaurant….?

bigwhitedog · 12/09/2025 14:49

If one of my colleagues wore this I'd be concerned for her. Give it a miss OP.

SpigTheFish · 12/09/2025 14:49

No. Its a bodycon clubbing dress.

Lace is a no-no at my work place.

Whateverwillwedonow · 12/09/2025 14:50

It’s very mother of the bride.

Tipeetommeey · 12/09/2025 14:50

Absolutely not. Middle management in public sector you’ll be just fine in some wide trousers, smart trainers and a shirt or jumper

Miraclesforme · 12/09/2025 14:50

FurForksSake · 12/09/2025 14:46

I was thinking more a hostess in a casino

NoelFurlong · 12/09/2025 14:54

😂😂 I assume you’re joking?
