Is M&S really having a moment?

I keep seeing/hearing that M&S is having an amazing season, but I'm not getting it. Browsing the website I see nothing special. What am I missing? What have you bought recently which has really thrilled you?

Shame they allow men in their women’s changing rooms though

I've just bought a lovely burgundy 100% merino cardigan from M&S for £40. Soft enough to wear next to my skin too.

Sadly I think you’ll find it bobbles very quickly. Well mine did anyway

Blarn · 10/09/2025 13:22

If that moment is polyester then yes.

MinnieCauldwell · 10/09/2025 13:24

I was disappointed in a man made jumper I got delivered from Marks, took it back and got a better made one from Primark. I am unable to wear any wool and I do find their non wool jumpers are really poor now.

Was yours this one? I haven't had chance to wear it yet. https://www.marksandspencer.com/pure-merino-v-neck-button-front-cardigan/p/clp60757623?intid=mobile_app_pdp_share]]
I've bought lots of men's & women's merino v neck jumpers from M&S over the last couple of winters and they've been great quality with no bobbling. I've washed them all in the machine too.

Bigger stores have some lush stuff !!! And yes it’s havin a moment ! U don’t have to be over 45 though! Just go on tik tok and see all the viral trends

Shutupkeith · 10/09/2025 13:47

TheBucketWomen · 10/09/2025 10:40

M&S is always having a moment if your over 45!

How so? I am 48 so would fit into your claim but tell me how you've come to this conclusion? I presume it is an ageist insult or am I going to be pleasantly surprised?

I worked at M&S years ago as a student and this was a problem I was reporting to HQ back in 2007 on the back of customer feedback. Clearly they don’t listen!

They only ever seem to have 6/8/10 in the ranges I want to buy! Always OOS in larger sizes.

This!

Lots of pieces are great, influencers are loving them. Check out social media for ideas on what they all love?

Influencers are loving them because they’re being paid to…

FutureMarchionessOfVidal · 10/09/2025 13:59

Their website is so out of date. Why don’t they have a ‘shop the outfit’ facility for all images?

napody · 10/09/2025 14:04

TheLeadbetterLife · 10/09/2025 10:28

I feel like we hear "M&S is having a moment" every year - I assume this is coming from their marketing department, and magazines / influencers are repeating it because they're grateful for anything to say.

A bit like how we're all champing at the bit every Autumn waiting for the John Lewis Christmas ad - or so we're told by every fucking media outlet obediently reproducing their press releases.

Edited

Yes M&s are the worst for it on here. They often get called out so I think the 'I can't see anything special' is a new angle to make it sound legit.

friedaddedchilli · 10/09/2025 14:15

@applegingermint nice cardigan, and that colour is definitely of the moment.
Sold out in my size already!

@DeafLeppard just bought an alpaca jumper myself. The a line suedette skirt (I'm not up to a mini) is sold out though. I'm obviously late to this season's party!

The jeans at M&S are great as other posters have said. Sizing is perfect and they're reasonably priced.

There have been some great clothes in there over the past few seasons.

I heard that the buyers are ex-Topshop so maybe that's why it appeals to much to us old fogeys forty-somethings.

TorroFerney · 10/09/2025 14:37

They don’t help themselves, saw a topin the Manchester store looked for it online as didn’t have my size in the store. Searched and searched and finally messaged them as online it was only in a different colour. They aren’t stocking the colour I wanted online. Why? Can they check another store for stock. No.

Just shows you that PR works - that cardigan is drab as all fuck, and anyone could get one similar literally anywhere. And it’s sold out, because we’ve been told that they’re having a moment 🙄

Im in my mid 40s and it isn’t a shop I ever ever set foot in unless buying a Xmas present for my mother.

I buy their merino and cashmere and it never bobbles. I wash it carefully

Dragonflydancer · 10/09/2025 14:48

Another one saying they never have my size (10) in stock

I dont see how this comment is ageist.

I'm 50, incredibly well dressed, a lot of it is M and S. 😉

I don't think the teens and 20's are their target market.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 10/09/2025 14:55

I only really go in when my mother is visiting from Cornwall and she pays.
I did happen to remark last time we were in there that it only seems like yesterday I was a young 20something expressing my utter dislike of Per Una clothing and now all of a sudden I’m a 40something filling my trolley with with lots of their stuff!

FishPie2 · 10/09/2025 14:58

They recently had 2 co ords online which I wanted to buy. The first set was advertised on large boards in the shop for about a month and now the trousers have arrived with no tops.
2 weeks ago the same thing, I ordered the trousers but couldn't find the top. Asked in store and they have never seen it so emailed head office. Standard reply we are looking into it but no reply after another week and no sign of the top details online although the pictures are there.
Why do they do this?

Read the thread and figure it out for yourself!

Well I've been dead for 37 years, but when I heard M&S were 'having a moment', I clawed my way out of the grave, clattered down the High Street, and treated myself to a pair of barrel-leg jeans...

(But at least I can spell 'you're')...

💀👻

Gettingbysomehow · 10/09/2025 15:02

Very soft silky jumpers in loads of colours for £18. I love them and want all the colours.

ThePoshUns · 10/09/2025 15:17

They have a great knitted rugby shirt on their socials, sold out online. So frustrating and happens every time.
