Footwear for wide leg or bootleg trousers if I’m not good with heels ……

My office is very casual, but I still want to look good when I’m there. I only go in 2/3 days per week and no longer buy “work clothes” as such but always struggle with autumn/winter wear.

Bootleg and wide leg trousers seem to be the most popular styles for autumn (fine with that) and I realise that with looser trousers I need a more fitted top for a balanced silhouette, but can any recommend any ankle boots or trainers that would look smart-ish, because I really don’t cope well with heels?

I wear Converse Lift Ox trainers with wide leg trousers as I think you need a slightly more hefty shoe and it gives you a bit of height.

Docs or anything with enormous chunky soles are popular in my office

FusionChefGeoff · 07/09/2025 08:18

Agree to boxy white trainers (classic Nike Air Force 1) or a chunky sole. Also, I am average height but when buying boot cut recently I had to go ‘short’ length as they were designed for heels. The short is just about right for trainers though.

Are there any darker coloured trainers I could buy, that look cool, avoiding the ‘boys school shoes’ look?

Michael Kors wedge trainers. I have loads as since covid I tend not to wear ‘proper’ shoes unless I have to as the trainers are so comfy. Styles that aren’t bulky on the feet and look somewhat elegant, as far as trainers can be.

Devilsmommy · 07/09/2025 08:32

When it gets to boot wearing weather definitely Chelsea boots with wide leg trousers

RedRiverShore5 · 07/09/2025 08:39

I just wear Chelsea boots or trainers, depending on what I'm doing.

I just purchased these to wear after seeing them styled with wide legs trousers on their site:

I’m loving all these ideas! I do have a pair of Nike Airforce Ones, I will be wearing these to the office until the weather turns and then I will need something in a darker colour.

I am also googling fashion sites and sadly realise I may need to be tucking tops into trousers this year?

Real cowboy boots

New Look have a great range of trainers in different colours. I've always stayed away from the black trainer look to be honest as I think they can look a bit clompy.

Also, I second the Air Force 1 trainers, I wear these very often with my wide leg trousers. I bought the white version with a light peach tick as I find these go with the majority of outfits/colours.

In terms of ankle boots, I'm all about the comfort these days (doesn't help that I have wide feet and fallen arches) - I was actually surprised to see that Skechers do some really nice, smart ankle boots which have a little heel but still feel like walking on air!

I think it's brown this season isn't it for trainers? The mint velvet ones look perfect

bloatedbeyondbelief · 07/09/2025 21:18

Lanx!
Pricey but so worth it - laced chunky brogues, smart enough for work and can be worn with dresses and trousers. I live in mine come the cooler weather.
They do beautiful boots too and frequently have sales.

Have a look at Moda in Pelle platform trainers

they look similar to my puma palermos in black. i wear them with my bootcuts, and i love them.

Ovasaurus · 08/09/2025 06:15

I think a slim sharp pointed shoe or boot looks good with a wide trouser/ jeans. Provides a contrast to the bulky fabric around the ankle.

Jessrabbit84 · 08/09/2025 06:19

Hey there,

I typically shop at Shoe Zone and wear something like in the Link Below. I’m working from 7 AM to PM, and I’m constantly on my feet throughout the day. It's quite uncommon for me to have lunch without interruptions.

I wear Chelsea boots or bright coloured trainers to match my top/blazer. Blue or burgundy in my case.

Square toe loafers are cute with wide leg.
