Footwear for wide leg or bootleg trousers if I’m not good with heels ……

My office is very casual, but I still want to look good when I’m there. I only go in 2/3 days per week and no longer buy “work clothes” as such but always struggle with autumn/winter wear.

Bootleg and wide leg trousers seem to be the most popular styles for autumn (fine with that) and I realise that with looser trousers I need a more fitted top for a balanced silhouette, but can any recommend any ankle boots or trainers that would look smart-ish, because I really don’t cope well with heels?

I wear platform trainers with wide leg jeans and boots with flares/bootcut, I find that they just don't sit right with trainers but that might be because I am short.
If I wear cropped jeans I then usually where my platform DM's

I have these in both red and brown and really like them,https://www.meandem.com/us/retro-runner-trainer-red
I also like the trainers from Isabel Marant.
Or, you could wear a loafer with a sock or a more contemporary flat Mary Jane.

I'm not very imaginative so I just alternate between the below and my DM boots

I like a wide wide leg with fabric pooling onto top of front feet. So I need a BIG chunky trainer to protect the back, I have a few of these OP in a few colours (try ebay, Vinted, Vestiaire etc)

very comfy, work well. Not a fan of wedge trainers these days, but I liked em back when!

I think it depends on your trousers and top too, if I wore chunky loafers etc it looks too ‘done’ as I wear formal light wool, wool silk blend tailored trousers maybe with silk formal button down shirt. Mahoosive trainers edgify the outfit a bit imo

Vionic boots have a bit of a heel but don’t feel like it, if that makes sense. Comfortable and you don’t have the sock dilemma that I always have in trainers!

I like loafers in various colours or flat/low heeled leopard or snake shoes.

GreyBeeplus3 · 04/10/2025 20:50

I always wear pointed flats myself

HolidayHappy123 · 04/10/2025 20:56

Adidas Spezials are the best. So comfortable, tons of colours and look great with wide legs.

I can't wear heels anymore. I have flat pointy shoes, a couple of them in leopard, some just plain colours. I think pointy is having a moment, loafers or trainers.
