1000 replies

BakeOffRewatch · 02/09/2025 21:47

Annual Style and Beauty Advent Calendar discussion thread. First AC reveal this year was 23rd June. First luxury reveal was 2nd July.

Thread 1: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5360770-2025-style-and-beauty-advent-calendar-discussion

Thread 2: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5388836-2025-style-and-beauty-advent-calendar-discussion-spoilers-thread-2

Thread 3: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5396898-2025-style-and-beauty-advent-calendar-discussion-spoilers-thread-3

The regulars on the thread mainly discuss luxury BAC and this dies down by September when everyone has purchased and forgotten the contents. Then it goes into discussion on what’s selling out, what hasn’t and what deals and discounts to be had on ACs in the lead up to December. Then in December we move onto AC opening threads!

There’s a separate thread for GWP, discounts and other deals here: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5389635-beauty-chat-freebiesgifts-with-purchaseoffers-thread-four

A thread for the Liberty Beauty Drop here: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5253698-liberty-beauty-drop-spoiler-from-the-despatch-date-part-9

MN has a great Christmas board for deals and early gift buying here: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas

Jeez that didn't work - that was a link to the Pretty Woman " Big mistake, Huge" clip.

CountryCob · 05/09/2025 22:22

I love that clip @LightandBreezy. My GB ordered Friday has also arrived so staying strong and waiting for the H&B for my DD. Have noticed that now I am switched on to advents Christmas feels more immediate than it is. Bought a present yesterday! It is such a busy time though it is good to be ahead and spread the cost. Will put mine in the loft now and most likely pretty much forget the contents which is for me an advantage of early purchase.

I think you need to check the seller is selling other things from the calendar to be sure. I've seen between £5.50 and £8.29 that I'm sure are fakes and they're selling other fakes. For the K18 £50 item for £5 + postage? or 3 for £10!

How can you tell they’re fakes @Hicupping ?

Personally, I don’t know how to tell the fakes. What I tend to do is look at what other products they are selling, to see if it looks like they’ve had an AC or beauty box and are selling off bits

Hicupping · 05/09/2025 23:22

I think they look amazingly similar to a real product, I was looking at a cream a few months back, the bulk sellers set off alarm bells on ebay, googled the brand & fake (it's called topicals I think) and there was loads, reddit, tiktok etc trying to show the differences. I gave up and was waiting for a 20% off on CB etc but lost interest in meantime. Price is number 1, selling lots of items that are known for being fakes and packaging differences. K18 should be matte packaging but apparently fakes have been glossy. Unless I feel confident I don't buy from ebay or Amazon. If they're selling Summer Friday's lip butters for £5 that is a definite no too.

MrsBnow12 · 05/09/2025 23:29

I am sure I saw some comments earlier about Lookfantastic dispatch, I have recently received my dispatch so should be here in the next few days

IlovePond · 06/09/2025 02:00

Re: Purchasing from eBay

I also look at the seller’s other items. Basically if there’s some other stuff from a calendar or beauty box listed, (not multiples!) then items will be genuine. It’s also very likely to be the real deal if the seller has one or two calendar items, (e.g. me selling that diabolical electric blue eye pencil last year), amidst an eclectic range of household tat, (also me 😹😹😹).

A red flag is a business seller offering multiples of high value items at very reduced prices.

As a general rule: I only buy from UK sellers with excellent feedback.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 05/09/2025 19:48

That was only £40 last year! As much as I like St Eval, I think it's a shocking price for tealights. If they had a few votives among it, maybe.

I'd rather just spend the money on my favourite full sized St Eval candles.

Oh wow, that is a jump!

2025istheyeari · 06/09/2025 07:35

I bit the bullet and ordered Glossybox, I fancied the palette and there were a few things I thought I could use for my sisters DIY advent ( including the box!!). For the money I think it’s great value, have already popped the things I won’t use on Vinted. I’ll use the small espa creams etc for travelling and things like the lip pencil etc will go into a beauty hamper for DS school fayre, so overall very pleased!
I’ve also managed to sell the perfumes I don’t like from Liberty so have recouped enough from that to fund Glossybox.
wonder when Space NK out, that’s my last one!!

Good morning! I’ve been an avid lurker on these threads for a while and I finally have a question to ask off the hive mind. I’ve used my beauty drop credit for my liberty calendar. So have some spare cash to buy my teen daughters one to share. They have both settled on Rituals. My question is, it doesn’t seem the best value for money. I’m going to buy it anyway, but in previous years has there ever been any deals on it which I should wait for?? Failing that will buy from boots to get points/ cash back / and hopefully there will be a points vouchers thingy too.

I had the rituals one last year and loved it. It is so very expensive though but I liked everything in it.

The Holland and Barrett one is always a good deal and only had a couple of duds in last year.

I want a k-beauty one this year but not sure which to go for

Yes, this is what I've been looking for with my purchases from ebay and vinted too. I like it when someone puts up a picture of the item in front of the advent calendar and then I don't need to go snooping 🤣

RainbowZebraWarrior · 06/09/2025 08:25

Doubleraspberry · 06/09/2025 07:09

Oh wow, that is a jump!

It works out at £2 per tealight which I absolutely cannot get my head around. I know a few people who bought it last year and I told them to try THANKYOU20 for 20% off which worked last year, but sadly doesn't look like it's working this time.

OvaHere · 05/09/2025 18:55

Does she like K beauty? The Yepoda one mentioned earlier today is nice but it is mostly minis and a few items like wash cloth etc. Alternatively there will be good ones coming from the K Beauty sites - Yesstyle/Stylekorean/Stylevana but they do sell out quickly.

Although for her age, value and cross section of products the Boots 24 Beauty Stars one is probably one of the better ones for the top of your budget. There's also a Next one for £95 that has a decent selection of products, that one is already on sale.

Thank you for replying. I have gone on the wait list for Boots Allstars. I can’t seem to find when it will become available. DD24 pleased with it last year so gone for that as suggested. I’m impressed with everyone’s detailed knowledge on all these ACs. Beauty products not my thing really so they all get merged and muddled in my brain! I think some of you on this thread could set up a business creating bespoke calendars and sourcing items off Vinted Smile

nearly61 · 06/09/2025 08:45

@Doubleraspberry @RainbowZebraWarrior I love St Eval so clicked through on your link, thank you, but the price now is £37.01 (why the 1p I can't imagine!!). Anyhow I guess they might have made a pricing error earlier?

Doubleraspberry · 06/09/2025 08:48

How weird! It still says £50 to me - it’s part of the description and it says it in the email too.

PluirinSneachta · 06/09/2025 08:50

@woodlands01 I saw on a YouTube video that Boots advent will be released in October

nearly61 · 06/09/2025 08:51

@Doubleraspberry @Ha good grief- I added it to the basket and went to pay and it had reverted to £50!! So must have been a glitch on my side, sorry to get your hopes up.

Doubleraspberry · 06/09/2025 08:57

More annoying for you I suspect! I wasn’t planning to buy - I’m being steely this year about Liberty being my only calendar.

Got mine this morning! Should arrive Monday or Tuesday.

@woodlands01 I'd agree that Next have been all round very good for their price point in the last few years. And they stay on sale for longer.

Saturdaycoffeeandtea · 06/09/2025 09:14

i have been reading the threads and there seems to be so many choices! So far I have got the liberty one for my mom, and Elle for myself. I also ordered the Lancôme beauty box with 10OFF and got a few Skin Rocks creams on SNK with GWP. I got one from the liberty AC last year and quite liked it. I think I am done for the next year… hopefully!

My LF has been sent out too. Looks like my Lancome beauty box is arriving later today.

HollyGolightly4 · 06/09/2025 09:43

Loved the look of the St Evals candles but £2 a tealight is painful! Are they excellent candles in general though? I'm still toying with a DIY one!

HollyGolightly4 · 06/09/2025 09:44

Has anyone seen this deal:

Doubleraspberry · 06/09/2025 09:44

St Eval candles are gorgeous, yes. Usually a good code or two for their website including the usual mailing list sign up bribe.
