Bar soap that lathers?

greengreyblue · 02/09/2025 16:57

I switched back to bar soap for the shower and hand basins some years ago and normally use Dove. Recently used a Spanish soap I bought on holiday but then returned to Dove and it just doesn’t lather like it used to. Any good recommendations?

Imperial Leather? Not used for a while but had some during lockdown. Pears too smells lovely.

Imperial leather which I use in toilets and kitchen. In shower use a lovely local farm's goat milk soap with essential oils in it. Lathers well.

Good shout. Reminds me of my childhood.

Are yiu in a hard water area? This will affect whether soap lathers

Yes I am but it used to lather just fine. Wondering if they’ve changed an ingredient.

The smell is weak too.

Reminds me of Sunday night baths when was a kid

Dove isn't actually bar soap in the traditional sense so they may have changed the formula?

minipie · 02/09/2025 17:27

Simple soap, we have fairly hard water and it lathers

UncomfortableSilence · 02/09/2025 17:37

No recommendations but Dove have definitely changed their formula. I used to use it and it no longer lathers the same.

We got some olive oil soap on holiday which is lovely but not very helpful for you!

I use Pears soap, as it reminds me of my Grandma. Lovely soap..

TK Maxx do proper bar soaps, cannot confirm which ones lather well but many to try out.

I also bring back soaps from holiday, cheap and better than UK soaps.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 02/09/2025 17:42

Simple here too, the shape's changed but it seems to lather and smell the same

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 02/09/2025 17:43

Palmolive soap is lovely and lathers well. Sainsburys do bar soaps that lather well, I got an orange blossom and bergamot bar soap from there and it's fabulous.

Timeforabitofpeace · 02/09/2025 17:44

Roger et Gallet. Famous and classy. Not that I use soap these days.

ThisCanFuckOffToo · 02/09/2025 17:45

I like olive oil soap for the shower. For handwashing I just buy Lidl soda - 4 bars for a quid or something’s lathers really well and hands feel properly clean afterwards.

I never feel clean with shower gel.

Buffypaws · 02/09/2025 17:46

Yes this! Someone went to Marseille and brought
me some soap back and omg it was amazing

WhatdoesitmeanKeith · 02/09/2025 17:47

Currently using the green Pear’s one and it’s lathering really well.

UpMyself · 02/09/2025 17:53

These are my favourite soaps at the moment - the olive one doesn't really have any fragrance but it lathers well and leaves skin lovely and soft. The Suma one smells really gorgeous and lathers well too.
I buy the Oliva soap in bulk from Amazon and the Suma soap from my local health food shop.

Second TKmax. Great price too. Love So many soaps to sniff. Triple milled soaps stay firm too and less soggeyness. Love L'occitane ones especially the verbena.
