Stylish trainers for work

Hi I need some stylish trainers to wear for a conference. I’m senior management but will also be helping with logistics and mucking in so need to be comfortable while also having professional meetings all week. Also have plantar fasciitis mildly so need to be careful.

I generally don’t have any problems with styling myself but have no clue when it comes to trainers. I’m 50 years old. Don’t want to look like going to gym. Will be wearing with cropped trousers and a top. Pref all white or all navy. What brands are best for my age and the situation please and where from?

Why can’t you wear shoes? I cannot see how trainers will be ‘best for the situation’ - particularly as they’re not your habitual work wear.

(Unless, of course, you’ll be involved in some sports or children’s activities during the conference? In which case you could change out of your shoes for the activity.)

I am perfectly well aware that trainers are mainstream footwear. That isn’t the point, though.

I wear fit flop trainers and they’re ace for a long day.

Sketchers are good too or for something that looks more like a sports trainer, Hoka.

If you have a Next Directory account, you could order several pairs, try them at home and choose before taking them back?

Adidas Samba

Veja would fit the bill. I have these ones and wear them on casual office days.

Navy Nike Cortez. Love em.

If you have PF then look at Fitflop, Strive or Vionic websites.

Personally I find gym trainers comfy but don’t find trainers that look more like shoes comfy.

I’ve got several pairs of these and I love them. I wear them all the time - work, nights out, shopping etc.

Im nearly 60 and haven’t worn or owned actual shoes since lockdown - I live and die in Adidas.

They're 6 months interest free on Very at the moment in a variety of colours.

I'm 52 and need a comfy day shoe/trainer. I've just purchased the Adidas Breaknet trainer, they are super comfy and come in various colours.

Don't discount a nice pair of soft leather or suede loafers. I find these are much more flexible for a wide range of work outfits than my work trainers. You can get great support loafers that don't look fuggy.

If you do go down the trainer route keep them immaculate - have a look about next time you are in, lots of people seem to think grubby trainers are okay.

Are you wearing these tall / platform style ones? How are they for your back and knee? I'm a similar area, like the look of them but wore about how comfortable for everyday walks they are.

Another vote for fit-flop trainers. They are astonishingly comfortable and look smart with wide leg trousers.

Jaws2025 · 30/08/2025 09:49

Adidas are pretty flat inside, not ideal for arch support which OP probably needs for plantars. I wear them but need those arch insoles to make them comfortable.

Cinaferna · 30/08/2025 10:04

I really want a pair of these. It could be a good excuse to get some, OP.

I like loafers but feel I'd need to have bare feet in them, which is so much less comfortable than being able to wear socks in trainers.

SoftLass · 30/08/2025 10:10

I wear trainers every day for work and also need good arch support. Second the vote for vionics and Skechers, both work great for me with wide feet as well. I can wear either all day with no discomfort.

SwallowsandAmazonians · 30/08/2025 10:14

I also wear fitflop rally for conferences with lots of walking. I have silver ones which look fine with dresses.

Waterbaby41 · 30/08/2025 11:47

Skechers every time!

They are really comfy @Cinaferna.

The fit flop Mary Janes are super comfy. Mine are silver, love them.
